(...) The only problem is that these big corporations will probably take our beautiful plant and put some bullshit chemicals in it to make us addicted to it like cigarettes.(...)

Please take your conspiracy theories somewhere else, CIGARETTES DON'T CONTAIN ADDED ADDICTIVE SUBSTANCES. They do contain nicotine (of course) and usually a shitload of preservatives etc to keep them fresh, BUT NO ADDICTIVE SHIT(apart from the nicotine, lol). Seriously.

Anyway, the most important part of legalization for me is to be able to grow as much as I want without worries. I don't care if Phillip Morris and all the other tobacco companies fuck the commercial market up (although they probably won't even succeed in doing that since there's gonna be smaller stores selling the good shit) with their schwag, I just wanna grow my weed IN PEACE. Right now, I can't do that. Anyone against legalization is really a fucking turd and IMO a huge egoist.

IMO prices will increase. The demand, once legal, will increase dramatically, and supply will not be able to keep up. For some period of time at least. People will be coming from every nook and cranny to Cali to pick up large quantities while its legal to do so.

Then as stated before, the tobacco corps will jump in, not to mention the cartels will also be jumping on the bandwagon now that their once illegal product can now be legally sold.

The government (unfortunately) still has lots of work to do and will have to introduce and implement rules and regulations to keep things from becoming a free-for-all. Who can sell, who can grow. The state itself might jump in and take control and make it legal to only sell state grown product, how to tax, ect. ect.

While most if not all of us wish it legal, there are lots of technicalities that need to be addressed.

Just take a look at prohibition (the one in the 20s/30s, where they tried to outlaw alcohol). What you will find is that during prohibition, prices for booze rose by like 360% of the original value, because a black market was created and it was in the hands of gangsters like Al Capone. This same thing has happened to weed. A gram of weed goes for like 12 bucks here, but if you compare that to how much it costs to produce a gram of dank, it's about an 800% profit margin. Such profit margins are not sustainable in an open, legalized market, no matter the demand (which will be easily met anyway, there's more than enough land available to grow weed on in the US) and thus, prices will fall. Drastically.

It will come down to supply and demand, just like anything else...the major corps will mass produce the cheap stuff while the elites will be produced by the smaller business...there will be a market for both,

I know folks who will smoke nothing but the mexi brick due to cost...and then there are folks like me who will not touch anything but the high end herb...good thing I grow my own...hehe...

I believe the folks that will fare well will be those who have strains that are fire/ice but in the hands of few...if you got it they will surely want it...and pay for it...

Hindsight being 30/30, I'd say legalization would cause problems. See, if they legalized it would be free for everyone. People would have grow ops everywhere. Unless they do it like alcohol during prohibition. Then you would be able to only grow enough for yourself and no one else. The only thing is it would be legal for everyone. Whihc means it would be so hard to regulate. They probably wouldn't even sell it. It's a plant. Everyone can grow it. God put it here for us. Better than any other man made shit I have ever had. The Pharma. Companys would go bankrupt. Because people would be getting Gods all Natural Pain Medication. So it would be a mess. Everything would change. The ECONOMY WOULD BE better.

The Only Problem Is With LEgalization We Wouldn't Have Enough Crop Land In America To Sustain It LOL!! They Never Should Have Gotten Rid Of Hemp. Do Research People. This Will Happen In Our LIFETIME!

But I know how to settle this. It will take time. Everything needs to get organized. The Pharmacuetical Companys have a big hand in our government. So do Insurance Companys and everything Else. Anything that generates a large amounts of money they will tax the fuck out of them and get their cut. That's why this Health Care Bill is so Huge!!

We Need a Health Care Plan That Involves MARIJUANA!!!

AND IF ANYONE BELIEVES TOBACCO DOES NOT MANIPULATE THEIR PRODUCTS THEY ARE A FOOL. BLINDED BY THE SHIT THEY SPEW. I AM ADDICTED. It is the only addiction I cannot break. Because they make their products to control people by nicotine. They showed it on TV. It also falls in line with Big Pharma.

I was reading recently about the U.S. Government taking Big Tobacco to court, and if you think about why you can answer your own questions.

Their products are harming the health of Americans, and it has already been proven. Which is funny, considering they get so much money through taxes. They are making money by sueing them but yet they are still collecting all of this tax money.

So They are doing good business.

You could call it "Gambling with the devils of our economy"

12 bucks a gram 800% profit margin? not on indoors...it goes through many peoples hands the profit margin on someone selling you a 12g is not that much.

outdoor maybe because power and alot of other stuff is free..but indoors is expensive to produce

i also think that the cartels are not gonna simply go away because its legalized. they are gonna set up a shitload of growhouses (they already are) and just peddle their shit to any of the tourists coming to cali for cheap LBs to wax back home...thers gonna be a huge black market still...

man i grow and i love growing but sometimes id rather just buy good shit...80% of weed smokers dont have time or the energy patience to grow...most think its real easy until they realize it takes 3 months to grow that shit and hten another couple weeks of trimming, curing, all the leftover soil, etc, all the mess and clutter...the daily regimens....hahaha most smokers are party animals who dont have time for that shit!

if high grade hydro is 20 an 8th i can easily see most of my friends getting cancer from the massive increase in blunt smoking that would happen lol

I agree with both red bull and flying goat... look at the beer market. For the longest time microbreweries were unheard of and most of the beer in the U.S. came from huge producers like Budweiser. Witness lately the huge growth in microbreweries today. Its likely that a huge company will take over much of the production of marijuana- definitely going to be a big company with lots of backing. However, with the rich tradition of growing our own and always striving for better there will always be other people trying to get their product on the market. Perhaps "microgrows" will pop-up to fill the lack of real quality that comes when a big company cuts corners to produce huge amounts of its products...
you can even look at the wine industry. there are cheap, box wine; mid cost chardonnays, and high end cristal champagne.

its the same with booze, tequila, vodka, scotch, etc.

there will always be top shelf cannabis producers.

Exactly how I see it, good call Guy. I was interested in how this might play out, so I watched the movie Beer Wars. I think the analogy will fits very closely with our community vs good ole R.J. and Phillp Morris. Even if there is dark times ahead for those people making money doing this, in a way its a good thing. Commercial guys hear me out before lighting the flame throwers, if legalization happens only the growers and breeders with a true love for this way of life will be left living it. The rest will ebay their gear, turn off their lights, and go back to filling their garages with more junk they said they would never buy. For their herb, they will do what all the newly created/post prohibition heads will be doing, going to pot bars, or coffee shops or whatever model is adopted.

For us breeders and growers that are left, at first we will be unnoticed. Then as the public gets educated as to what good marijuana is really like we will come into our own. (like the people whom love marijuana so much that they take the time to post grow advice on public forums to complete strangers)

You can almost think of us as Protectors of the Dank, because you damn well that "Camel Kush", "Marlbro Greens", and Newport whatever are not going to do our beloved buds justice.

OK great, I still don't see where the "added chemicals to make it more addictive" are... Of course adding nicotine to tobacco is a horrible business practice, but in the end it's just nicotine, so it's the same as any stronger tobacco... I'm really not trying to defend smoking here, I know it's really bad for one's health but I can't stand the superstition and conspiracy theories that seem to haunt the members of this site like a fucking poltergeist

I was reading an article last week about legalization, and some state representative said they had done some research and were predicting a 50% price drop. Sounds about right to me, or at least sounds realistic. You'd better be able to double your production without increasing costs or you're gonna get pushed out of the market!

Watch, it will be cheap and easy to spray their weed with JWH-018 to double their crops potency for pennies on the dollar, hell I considered offering it myself as an "extra strength" weed for my more sickly patients.
