breeding for low odor

I've always taken to heart the expression, 'if you get lemons, make lemonade'

So I currently have a nl#5(from highgrade-seeds) mother, top notch smoke.
And very low odor, revegged and cloned, not my 'lemon'.

My 2nd child has turned out to be a Jock Horror male from Nirvana/SB. Well, he is what he is.
But he does have a couple of interesting features.
Low on odor, and he flowered out short, about 18 inches.
From what I've read, males tend to smell as much as females, maybe more.

So I'm doing my 1st cross. This topic doesn't seem to be covered too closely here.
So if anyone out there has been trying to breed for low odor, drop your experiences here.

HI,
Good topic, keeping smells down can be a problem at certain times and situations.
IMO weed dont have to stink to be strong.
ive offten read nl#5 to be low odour, high yielding.i have considered bogs bogglegum, but it looks to bushy.
I'm looking for a low odour high yielding single stem, sog plants, with good medicinal qualitys.i supply cuttings to 2 friends both suffer from numerous health probs, and use weed but only grow single plants, too worried/parnoid about smells and big bushy plants dont want trouble.
i've got some FD POG male pollen deciding wether to pollenate my BOG lifesaver or REZ A11.
Good luck with your low odour breeding, keep us informed how it goes pls friend...remain in harmony..azad

I was looking into dutchgrown seeds.this maybe the one for my friends.
"White Lightening is a combination of Kromes “The White” and G13bx. This is a low-odor, heavy yield indica specifically bred for high yields and low maintenance. Flowertime of 65 days, maximum, and keep the PPMs high, this massive indica can take it! Limited availability"

i recived 5 freebie mandala safari mix seeds today, with my order.hoping for somthing nice.
i started 3 mandala hashberry seeds too, now 2wks old

Chronic from Serious maybe?

I grew Jock and I only got 1 true female out of 10 beans and a bunch of herms, but the female was pretty low on the stank until the last couple weeks. Then it was like catpiss, really flared my nostrils up. She was a long flower pheno(hazy) though.

You could always get a different NL like say #2 and mix it with your #5. I know Dutch Passion has #2, cant remember what they call it though, they gave it some weird name but it says right in the description it is #2. Northern Lights is like notorious for being low odor pretty much isnt it.

Sounds like a pretty cool project though man. This is something quite a few people are looking for, I've seen a lot of posts asking for low odor stuff on the forums.

hey luciano, thanks for the thoughts here, and the experiences
there seem to be a good number of jock phenos, sorry about your miserable experience with so many males
my jock horror male is really screwed up, but it still has little smell
i did stress it with a couple of things i did, i popped the flower tops and tried to get pollen in 'safe chamber'
didn't work and threw the JH back into grow chamber
thing is herming with female pistils popping out
that's not too strange i guess, but the male parts seem to be dying off, just new pistils popping, so i'm confused

I wouldnt use that plant for breeding bro. Your male isnt a male, its a hermy and you are undoubtedly going to pass that trait on to the offspring. Those Jock beans are bad, seriously. I got a lot of herms and males that were probably herms too but I killed them before finding out. You should look for a true male and true female. I feel like I was lucky to get one out of that Jock pack, lots of people had problems with those beans if you search around. Id pretty much lay money that nothing you did made that plant go all tranny on you.

i was thinking of doing just that, but male hermies seem to have a bit of a different rep, at least some of them
i think dj short claims a male hermie that can set seed produces pollen that improves strain stability
that probably didn't make much sense, but do see threads on it here
so i was just going to see waht happens with those pistils, just for the hell of it

The #2 your talking about is from Dutch Passion is called Oasis
I'm currently growing Sensi Seeds Nothern Lights and it doesn't smell strong at all.
I think the low smell of Northern Lights is one reason lots of people have used it
over the years. It's an easy plant to hide odor wise. It does pack potency and it
is short as well. A true indoor plant.

I`m Anostic ie; no or very little sense of smell . My problem is i mostly grow guerilla or in my large garden plot (uk) which is 10mt from a public way . Years back b4 i knew much about it i bought some seeds from KC (3 different strains) & i realised they stunk when i had some s***s outside the grounds saying " I can smell skunk in here somewhere " . The KC`s were ripped down & call me paranoid but i kept expecting someone either to climb the boundry walls or bang on the door . It may have been the dogs (including a Pit) that kept them out or the fact the stinkys had gone & i only had Chronic left , it was a real good long dry summer & i had a beautiful harvest
Seeing as i left the Chronics growing i was taking a big chance but got away with it ,a good friend & growing buddy of mine came round 1 evening & had a job smelling them even in high flower , said they smelt only mildly floral once cured though i was told how gorgeous they smelt .
The missus is worried every year in case i get busted & said that if anyone can get a good strong odourless or very low odour strain developed suitable for outdoor UK they are on a winner .

Stay safe all . BGB

stories like these are what i believed was out there
the need for the zero smell strain
until it's legal everywhere, there will be a need
if one of my crosses was ever lucky to have this trait, i'd send them in as freebies
but way too small grow setup, unless i get very lucky

check out drgreenthumb.com he has a good range of seeds that have either pine or floral smell , Sweet 105 may be the 1 .
I tend to take the seed merchants flower time lightly but have heard good reports on this guy .

interesting experience, the AK's have one of the stronger smell reps out there
haven't grown them myself, but all experiences on low odor are good ones, maybe an odd pheno?
