Glass on Glass = Unhealthy?

I wonder if you could make something so you could see if you are actually inhaling glass. Like if we could color the ground glass and see if it actually travels up with the smoke

Well i decided to do the same stupid test that dude did.

I put in and out the bowl dozen times and then stisted it in there for added comfort....

Used a black thick sticky tape and wrapped the bowl in it.... NOTHING

I use exclusively:

Astro Glide or Pjur Eros

She has never complaint of any rough contact areas in the "jointz"...

Nor any dust has ever been shed.

On the other hand... she is from Germany (G-Spot) LOL!!!!!

No, desant, it's not like that at all. What happens to CO, CO2, NOx, and other pollutant gases you inhale? They go into your bloodstream, temporarily mess you up a bit, CO may displace O2 in your blood for a bit and give you a headache, but then the pollutant leaves your system when you exhale and breathe clean air again.

What happens if you breathe in glass dust? Well, it may not be as bad as asbestos, but still the shit gets in your lungs and tends to stay there. So what, you say? Well, maybe glass isn't as harmless as it sounds:

http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs238/en/ said:
Silicosis, one of the oldest occupational diseases, still kills thousands of people every year, everywhere in the world. It is an incurable lung disease caused by inhalation of dust containing free crystalline silica. It is irreversible and, moreover, the disease progresses even when exposure stops. Extremely high exposures are associated with much shorter latency and more rapid disease progression.

Silica dust is released during operations in which rocks, sand, concrete and some ores are crushed or broken. Work in mines, quarries, foundries, and construction sites, in the manufacture of glass, ceramics, and abrasive powders, and in masonry workshops is particularly risky.

Now, a better question would be, is glass dust really as harmful as free silica? I didn't find an answer to that.

the thing that really mattered that carrot top guy did. was take the tape and bring it right to the camera.
tony shows it from about 5 feet away.

i dont care what either of them say, i just did the tape test myself. with little to no difference on the tape.

If you people are that fucking paranoid don't buy a glass on glass bong's. Fuck i hope you people don't grow weed. How the fuck hard are you putting the joint in and out when you take a rip. And they dont need any kind of wax or grease what the fuck. OK I'm done....:moon::laughing:

I can answer you, I have mild lung damage (permanent) from glass dust exposure. Not from ground joints, but from working in a factory that produced fiberglass moldings. I have some small scars that show up, but I've got about 80% or so of the capacity I "should" have. For years I suffered from chronic bronchitis and other inflammatory issues. I haven't had major issues for years now since I make a real effort every day to keep exercising and focusing on breathing, but for several decades it was a real problem.

Now, at least one of my coworkers had a MUCH worse exposure than I did, that poor bastard was on an oxygen concentrator last time I saw him, has to use breathing gear at night. So yes, glass dust can really mess you up. I have no idea if it can cause cancers/etc like other mineral fibers, but it definitely can cause inflammation and promote infection.

From all the debate here, the only reason I lube my joints is to help them seal and to keep them from seizing and moving easily. I don't lube them to prevent glass dust. A well made ground glass joint WILL produce tiny (I mean TINY) bits of glass when moved or adjusted dry, but over time high spots will gradually wear down and you'll get fewer and fewer. I wouldn't lube a glass joint to keep dust down, it's minimal.
