My soil mix

Iron Lion- Good yield, and simple, but I have a feeling this dude likes finding and mixing all these ingredients. Or else he doesn't yet know how much of a PIA his mix is.

Diseases, pests, and viruses are threats to monoculture, and weak plants. We're growing a strong weed here, which is extremely diverse genetically.

seems like everything in there has a purpose to me. except maybe the -1% cinnamon lol?

cant say i agree with the percentages though, wondering how you got them? seems like your mix might be a bit hot with all the meals and things like 3% alfalfa.

oh you can replace the processed( most likely chemically) aspirin with the plant yarrow for the salicylic acid.

And ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

totally with ya on this one!

OCD? It's a sure way to kill a plant. Just saying...

Just to clarify.. A common noob mistake is to try and help them out too much by over-watering, over fertilizing, complex recipes etc. Give them a good mix that is proven (Lc mix) and let them do their thing. It's really quite easy.

This is my first grow that I've taken seriously, and want to get something out of. I could keep it simple and easy and the inner stoner in me is not unhappy at the prospect of a lazy garden.

Or I can utilize everything I've picked up in the past 5 years or research and practice and see what kind of tree I can get from my big bud seeds.

Not hating, but 5 years of research and practice and you still haven't learned to KISS? I personally feel when I was first growing that I tried to over-complicate everything and have the perfect measurement of this and that. If you truely want to get something out of this grow, hit up the sticky threads and replicate some of those soil mixes...they're there for a reason. If you truely have all of these nute and pest problems that you are preparing for, then add in some of your vast ingridents on the next grow. I'm a lil curious to see just how complicated you grow environment is ;]

But, if you're truely going for this mix...I'm taking a front row seat!

That's what I initially thought. The beauty of this soil is that if he keeps it organic and everything goes from veg to flower without getting burned, it will be even better on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th run of the soil...SC

pretty much, it just seems to me everyone's getting all fussed up because of the amount of ingredients. which is silly.

other than one or two things, i see perfectly good reason to include everything in that mix. and if i have to i will explain it even though its not my mix.

The aspirin thing kinda weirds me out, can you explain where this belongs in an organic soil mix?? Is aspirin found in trace amounts in native top soil? Or is it substituting for something natural?

I should clarify, the mix hasn't been made yet. It's set to be done this week. I'm still rounding up the last of the materials.

If you have any percentage suggestions, by all means, let's hear them.

like i said above, i would replace the aspirin with the plant yarrow ( Achillea millefolium ) it has the same salicylic acid and is plant based, not a processed pill.

acetyl-salicylic acid is found natually in willow trees it is a rooting hormone cuz the willow re produces via drooping branches so it should inhibit root groth
this is so clearly your first grow your using surgens tools to pull a splinter
most the shit in your mix are things we use to grow vegys and wont help as much as thell hurt in the long run
this is your first go you got time to learn
glad its your crop and not mine
good luck and i highly recamend the less is more moto

what i dont understand is, why, if you have all the knowledge of each amendment and what it does and how much to use and how to make this complicated mix, then why are you asking us if its ok to use? seems a little silly to me just pick something and stick with it and you will have success.

Conversation peice. First post, didn't have many other questions. And I'm smart enough to know there are smarter people than me.

I even found out about some ferts I never heard about when I posted this at GC.

Too complicated, my soil mix consists of 3 different bagged soils mixed together and a little lime added and Im getting 2 and a 1/2 zips from a 3 gal bag. I dont see how with that much science you got goin on there you could be doing much better.

I got that much with bagseed and homemade "compost" before I even knew how make compost.

I'm looking for a little more than that this time. If I'm going to spend money on these seeds, and bust my ass digging these holes, hauling this shit, all on the hopes of a nice successful harvest, I'm happy to invest the time and effort into making the best mix I can.

no, they are not. given a healthy plant and soil, they are quite rare, maybe with the exception of some easy to control nuisances like mites and aphids. a sensible gardener assumes there are no threats until they are positively ID'd. The world is innocent until proven guilty, in other words. that's organick for you.

A plant is only as healthy as the soil it's growing in.

You think a sensible gardner just waits till something becomes a problem to deal with it?

That might work for a grow in your basement, but not a GG.

I've hit those threads going back to Overgrow and a half dozen sites since. I'm just taking everything I've gathered, and making it my own.

Ya'll talk about keeping it simple. This is part of keeping it simple. The better the preperation, the easier the execution.

That should be like a motto or something.

But, if you're truely going for this mix...I'm taking a front row seat!

I'll try not to spray you with fish emulsion.
