2010 outdoors,

Well as we all know spring is here again, the days are stretching and the danger of a hard frost is almost over.

It's time we all took a stab at outdoor growing again, last years half success with hollands hope has made me even more determined to do better this year.




She was hit by mould and had to be chopped early, trichs were cloudyish so the whole lot was hashed, the hash was weak but still better and cleaner than anything you get off a dealer.

I made a few mistakes last year mainly not planting in the sunniest spot in he garden and not doing enough to protect against snails and aphids, lessons learned and all that.

This year is a different story thanks to a lot of the good folk on icmag, special thanks to the guys who share their knowledge in the organic section and those involved in the hybrids from hell collective and a few others who i'm not sure they want to be named so i wont but thank you.

Right well it's 2010 and time to start growing so here's the first of a hopefully large list of strains i'm trying this year.


Arne = b3n7erdpurt x royal dane
AH = amnesia haze
Rocketchunk2 = Hill Temple Collective Deep Chunk x Arne
ErdPurt = Erdbei x Purpurea Ticinesis
XFiles = early hash plant bred by enos

Here's two pakistan vally plants i have hardening off outside under plastic at the moment, bit early for overnighting so they come back into the green house at night.




Here's some of the things i'm using to amend the soil in the garden.


I've also added peat moss and home made compost to the mix and a few layers of hydroton in the holes for better drainage, i'll do my best to update as the season swings into gear.

My final thoughts on the start of the upcoming 2010 growing season are that every one of you guys should try at least 1 strain you think may do well in our climate, SOME WHERE OUT THERE IS A STRAIN WE CAN ALL GROW OUTDOORS.
Some of you auto growers should start up a thread with a similar goal.

I have some outdoor adventures planned for this summer, I have seen diesel ryder done outside here that was really nice and I'm planning on crossing that to some seeded outdoor weed that I got a while back, seems to be mostly indica leaning so far and as I far as I can ascertain the strain itself is from Canada, also got some other strains getting thrown out at the end of April, Durban Poisin, Phat Fruity and Pamir Gold. I plan on getting clones of the best looking plants and leaving some males in the patches, bound to get something nice with all those genetics.

i v had some bad luck so far with plots, for the last 2 years iv been keep my eyes on 3 perfect plots that within the last month got compromised

I grew it indoor two months back and the last sample will probably be gone in the next few days. I only had 1 seed so not the best representation of the strain perhaps but anyway, it seemed to be a really slow vegging strain, but as soon as I flowered it, the thing took off. I took it down at about 9 weeks due to mites but it could have gone at least one more, a medium feeder from what I can recall. The smoke from it is pretty nice, mostly indica leaning, but also seems to get me behind the eyes as well if that makes any sense. It tastes skunky, and will stink out any room it is smoked in, it also smells a lot once dry, definetley a candidate for double bagging. The buds on the plant were really dense, almost rock hard in places, so I would worry about mould outdoors especailly with out climate, no matter what GHS say . I got about an ounce off one plant, but from I have learned reading grow reports on other sites it does not seem to be a heavy yielder. It seems to cope with cold temps fine, my lights off tempatures went down as low as 7c at some points but it didn't seem to mind.

Wow great list, and not the typical strains you'd see being done outdoor, cant wait to see how these turn out .... remember spring is later this year than previous years, might wanna extend the hardening off period, especially for overnight

Sounds like you have a busy summer ahead of you Frewrux, I might try diesel ryder myself in 1 or 2 of the flower beds.

Males are something I haven't thought out fully yet, I want to be able to pollinate a lower branch of the strains that do well.
It's a choce between cloning then culling the males or puting every thing in pots so they can be seperated.

Are you gonna cross anything in particular or just let nature take it's course?

I reckon so Tonto or at least I hope so, planted out some peas and carrots and 2 of those pakistan valley plants today and the agri fleece is on stand by just in case.

Never used the blocks, good idea if you have to lug them to a grow spot tho



Little bit off topic but I read an article in the paper yesterday where some weather prediction company who claims to have not got it wrong in the last 18 months is predicting a good summer.

Have you a link for your last hollands hope outdoor? I bought a packet a few years ago & gave them to a mate & he grew them indoor, it was his 1st grow & he made a bollox of it & didn't see the males, ended up with 100's of feminized seeds.

Are they like little discs a bit wider than a €2 coin & they expand? If so, I've used them once, they worked fine.

Nothing new to update except the 2 that are planted in the ground have had their stems wraped with copper wire and surrounded with dry chopped straw, snails can go and eat the hostas instead and leave my mj well enough alone.

Oh yeah i forgot to say i have a few seeds left over if anybody wants to take a stab at outdoors hit me up with a pm for details.

I can't remember what breeder they came from, I just remember they were €35 for 10 over in the Dam & they were NOT feminized. I've had bad experiences in the past with fem seeds & I'd avoid buying them.
The male wasn't actually hollands hope, it was some purple plant, can't remember the name but I got the seeds off Uncle Hughie who used to post here, if your still lurking hughie, hope your keeping well mate, we had a few joints & pints when I came upto belfast

As for how he ended up with fem seeds, I have no idea, I can only guess & my guess would be light leaks. The 1st grow from the seeds we ended up with all females & I thought, nice one, that's a bit of luck, grow 2 & they were all females again, I knew then it wasn't luck & we had 100's of fem seeds.

Yeah i cought a bit of the long range forcast, chance of snow up north with the possibility of some down south..looks like winters giving us one last kick in the nuts eh!

Thats a very nice batch of seeds. Will be interested in seeing how HBH seeds do in Ireland. Ill be running the Danish strains Typhoon and the flatland(UK08xDanish Passion). Im very hopefull about the typhoon as it seems to finish anywhere.

Ive also got hold of GG#1, Early wonder skunk, charger and the SAL outdoor mix from canada aswell as a pack of Diesel Ryder to try and get a wee bit of early smoke in.

Ill be running the autos and charger in the greenhouse and the rest will be outdoors.

First seeds are being cracked today, Ill try and get some pictures up soon.

Yeah a little bit 1 of the 3 pakistan's didn't make, was the weakest of the 3 so it's no great loss.

The other plant thats in the ground seems fine and the 1 in a pot was brought indoors.

Most of the other strains are sprouted just 1 or 2 lagging behind will update soon.

Right well here's the first tray of the HFH seeds 3 of the first 16 didn't germinate, 1 erdpurt and 2 of the speedqueen x's but the rest are flying up.


The xfiles and the rocketchunk x amnesia haze both had 4/4 germination and broke ground in 5-6 days, vigorous little buggers i'm looking forward to see how they do after they get planted out.
They are a lil bit stretchy at the moment, conservatory doesn't get full sun all day so every day at 7pm they get thrown under 200w eco-light until i wake up and it's back under natural light.

Another tray of 16 were planted last week and again it's the RC x AH that are the first to break ground so hopefully i'll have 30 plants to work with.

Nothing to report on the 2 pakistan valley that are outdoors, not much growth but they have survived so far.
When they start to grow a little better i'll know it's time to plant out the rest.

Cold front and frost are forecasted for next week or so i'm told so thats something to be aware of.

so im probably not going to be able to germ for 3 weeks due to the wonders of life, the plan is keep them inside for 2 weeks and then in to a cold frame, and then their final spots.

purple bud despite not finishing properly was my favorite from last year, this year my hopes are thyphoon and purple widow.

whats are you guys doing for nutes? im leaning towards some AN stuff. Also iv some AN mother earth tea left over from last year, can i still use it? it smells sweet which iv been told means its still ok to use.


unfortunately theres a strong chance that im going to have to outdoor dry, water cure anything i get, though i might get some cheapo bubble bags.

im really looking forward to see if the paki valley goes well cookie.

Ah dont worry Tonto 3 weeks at this time of year aint going to make much difference and sure the 2 weeks indoors undoor lights will bring them on nicely

Nice line up, been reading a bit about the church lately, on the list for next year and looking forward to see how yours turn out.
Never heard of purple bud any more info on it.
Pakistan plants are hanging in there,little bit of frost damage nothing too bad.

Not really sure how i'm gonna feed them yet but most likely go with organic nutes and seaweed/compost teas and see how they work out.

Weather for the week according to the radio is dry with frost n fog in places at night.
Little seedlings were repotted today all looking nice and happy in the sun

the purple bud is from seeds man, got cut early and was pretty small but worth it. imo church is a minfield , if it even germinates im worried about its mold claims.

tried digging today at a spot today, the earth was baked solid, makes me wonder if ill actually have to water my plants this year.

btw cookie is all your stufff in your garden or do you gorilla?
