I mean, if you really want an example of how this info can be misused, look at the Japanese citizens in America being put into internment camps based on the census information.

None of us are really worried about this happening to us, but it does show that this confidential information isn't always kept confidential. Any piece of information (no matter the classification) is up for grabs in the name of national security.

This is how funding for roads and bridges and schools are doled out.
This is how congressional districts are drawn and how many represenatives you get in congress.

Its the only way, taken every ten years, to know exactly how many people are in this country.
