My GH is built and all the stumps are out and my spot is ready to throw the 300s out. Going to have the GH covered and heater on and plants out there by Wednesday next week!! Woot!

12 pallets of pro mix on the way!!

What kind of heater are you using? I have two shitty oil-filled electric heaters... I was going to see if by putting them on timers that will have them on from 1am-5am I can keep the greenie above 50 degrees.

I just ordered 8 yards of Sonoma Compost products... I am going to grab a pallet of peat moss and a pallet of perlite and call it a day.

my neighbor has a huge old green house he aint usin any more and he said I was good to steal the propane furnace out of there...I'm not holding my breath though so I'll probably end up with a different propane furnace..I'm going to need to run my heater from like 9 pm till 8 or so when the sun really starts to hit the greenie...I'm up in cold country. By 9pm on my hill the weather will be down in the high 30s mid 40s or lower with frosts constantly threatening till well in to the summer...FWIW last June we had a massive hail storm...

Have you already gotten your test results back on that sample from Sonoma Compost?

not yet. but i am running some clones in a smaple of Sonoma/peat/perlite mix next to comparable clones in Black Gold + perlite and so far, the nomaad proto-mix is holding its own.

Good luck with what ever you decide to do I'm going to be doing the mix I know produces hella ... I like the fact that I'm adding every thing and will know exactly what's what and will be able to handle thing as they arise instead of guessing what the problem is, should any come up...an issue I've seen in a few large gardens who brought in a truck load or three of compost / pre mixed soil..Shit..even though ya may order the right stuff..it's gotta be delivered and ya never know who and with what equipment is doing all that and if they're even loading from the right pile...Call me a skeptic...

I have seen sick results with Sonoma's products. 4lb plants in 100 gallon sp's. Nothing but perlite added. And I have samples... I know what its supposed to look/smell like. Fine line tween skepticism and paranoia ;)

Nomaad - I guess we know some of the same people..you can ask them about how specific and particular I really am...I am of the school of thought that if I control it all then the blame falls on me. I can only point the finger at myself. I also trust no ones competency but my own when it comes to this type of investment...at a few hundred bucks a hole to fill, they'd better do right!

I'm with you. I like to be in control of as many elements as possible. And I take full responsibility when things go bad... but I am also always trying to avoid control-FREAK status. Gotta be able to let go and leave some things up to the universe. No judgment on you... just talking about keeping my own sense of balance... minimize attachments (especially to outcomes)... I feel like, even with as much work and love I have put into this thing, I could pick up tomorrow and move to Bangladesh and feed the poor (that, by the way, is my last resort plan if one of my kids starts to become infected with Babylonitis during our sojourn here.)

Anyhow... I have a feeling that we're both going to do just fine this year.

Yes bro. I am going to smash last years 100 pound crop to smithereens. I don't even want to say this years projected goal based on the # of plants and container size..ya'll will just have to wait till it's late enough in the season that no one can implement any of my tricks via seeing things done in pics... I will share many photos once every one is in the ground. Good luck to all

PS> I couldn't leave my super cold year round nor cal creek water...Get up and out of where you're at and come a little more North...MUCH better all around.

PPS> Babylonitis? Is that what kids get when ya let um listen to gangster rap and wear their pants 3/4 of the way down their ass? The cure for that around here is teachin' a kid how to split cords of wood...Soon enough they'll be singin "I'm proud to be an Okie........."

LOL. Yeah. Good description of Babylonitis. I have a freezing cold river running thru my place in El Honduragua... I need it to soothe a completely different manifestation of Babylonitis that I get from time to time.

did you make that with your own pipe bender? kit? i forget what you had said your plan was.

P

Was originally going to get a hoop bender. I went a much easier and cheaper way. Used PVC for the hoops...Got the whole thing put together in a day. Going to cover it Monday. First load of pro mix is landing on Monday.
