my (potential) grow cab

Paranoid one

Hey happyguy!
It's been a long time since i stopped by!

Just went thru the entire thread quickly and wanted to congratulate you on getting 2 girls!

I had a misfortune a few weeks back.
Got one seed to sprout, and the next day, i had no electricity due to a enormous snow storm...it was 45 degrees in the cab for 2 days and the little sprout died. Oh well...
So 3-4 days ago, i over wet the paper towel and my seeds just got moldy so i threw them away.
Germinated a seed 2 days ago. Right now it is in soil. Planted it like 20 minutes ago.. so im keeping my fingers crossed.

Alright man, take care and enjoy your 2 laides.:dance013:

:tiphat:

slight update:
i think the stretch is over, pistils are everywhere on the top growth. a lot of my bottom growth is falling off, don't know why, but i don't think that's the worst thing that could be happening; the rest of the plant looks fine. it could be lack of light, the top of my canopy is super thick.

reconfigured my fans, but they're still not performing like i want them to, so im assuming it's probably an intake problem. i guess i dont have enough intake. i did buy a new cabinet to mod up, though, so i'm excited about that. i don't know when i'll start on it, but i really want to take care of this one since it's a buy-and-build from wally.

canopy as of yesterday:

my younger of two plants has started looking quite pretty! sorry the budsites are out of focus, it's hard to take pictures and still be able to see the screen in there!

the other plant is still stretching and not showing quite as much buds yet...i may have to work on the new cab earlier than i had planned.. :(

total of 4 fans now

started off with 2 side by side, realized i needed more pulling power for my filter once i started flowering (which i actually think the cause of my heat problems is my intake area, which i just realized, but that cant be taken care of right now and might not ever get taken care of), so i bought two more fans and stacked em up. took some hot glue and tupperware, but i made it happen and now temps stay reasonable all day when the lights are on. i also changed a few things around in my electronics department so that 2 fans are on only when the lights are. keeps it from getting under desired temperatures in there. i believe if my intake were bigger, two fans would probably cut it. however, i computed my intake to require a 10-ish" hole or somewhere thereabout and foolishly thought that 10 1" holes would be the same. i never did the math. im thinking that if i can find a way to make it light proof, i can just remove my floor and replace it with a wire rack of some sort for a lot of air flow. all depends on if i decide to start my new cab or not...

Just a thought Happy,...if your conditions are not what you want in the old cab, maybe you could switch the lights back to 18/6 or 24/0 and let them go back to veg until you get you're new cab ready. Then you'll have 2 nice moms that you can clone at will and stock the new cab. That would allow you to make modifications to your old cab and have a banging mom/clone cab.

Despite your struggles with ventilation, the plants still look good. :good:

Hey bro,

increase your intake incrementally. Too much intake, and you won't have negative pressure, ergo, no it will stink to high heaven.

Green Smoke: i think i may be too far into flower to really want to turn back, and i don't have much time to work on a new cab anyways. however, i do have a week break coming up, maybe i could consider doing it then. i need a saw, though, and i don't think the roto-zip is going to be enough...it was makin some funny noises last time i was using it. also, there is a chance i'll be studying abroad next semester so a mother/clone setup isn't really what i'm looking into anymore, but i have considered cloning a few of the lower branches of my plants...just never did it.

mad librettist: hey man, i just did some rough math and im about 50 sqin away from the bare minimum of what i should have...but im pretty sure my carbon filter is really what's killing me because temps were fine before. that's why i originally bought another set of fans, i needed more back pressure. it's all kind of ghetto rigged because of poor planning on my part. if i do make a new cab, which i plan on, it's going to be way better... :)

Hey! Nice job!!! back a few posta ago you asked about using big bloom every watering...that would be a no-no..too much nutes will burn your ladies..
I had trouble with power supplies so I used a drill charger..you know the cordless kind? I just used the plug adapter..worked perfect..
as far as the carbon filter, you can't have more than a quarter inch of carbon or the fan won't work properly..unless you get a stronger fan...
best wishes on your grow

one of the damn fans fell off today -_- temps had to have been ~95 and the bulbs are REALLY close to the plant...kind of fried some of the plant...hopefully over the next few days we'll see some recovery.

Hey Happy. Just read through your thread. Those little buggers have been through a lot! Good going, keeping them alive and shit! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Also, I hella dig the cab. So good. I made a ~18 gallon Rubbermaid tub box. It's going well so far! Check my link in my signature!

Oh, and if you have trouble figuring out what to power the fans with, I just used a modified ATX computer power supply. They typically won't even turn on if they aren't connected to the motherboard, so if you take the green cable on the motherboard power plug, cut it, and attach it to a black wire (ground wire), then you can plug the power supply into a wall outlet, without a computer. It's pretty convenient. Just a thought :) Keep up your grow!!!

This shit's been bookmarked!

i don't really have any spare power supplies hangin around or anywhere to get em at a good enough price but i did find an adapter at the goodwill. i also found a good pair of speakers for $10. i almost bought rock band for $35. it was a day of strange finds at the gw.

Heck yeah! There's hella good stuff there. But anyhow, I only had that power supply cause I've been building my own computers for quite a while now. It's only a 200W , running two 90mm fans. nbd. :)

ok...im basically in total crisis mode. i've had to turn two of my bulbs off because my plants are both growing into the bulbs and i have no more vertical space and it is high 80s with the door closed (which is only for the hour or two that i can't have it open a day) so my plants have been getting fried.

luckily i've got a new cab almost ready to go with lots more space. i think the plants are going to be getting rootbound soon too so i'll get some new pots, also. is putting my plants into FFOF a bad idea if they're already in a different soil?

tomorrow plants should be going into the new cab unless i run into any problems...all i have to do is put the back on and seal it, install the fan lights and filter and we're off.

I'll be here to watch!! I am very impressed at your resourcefulness bro...Great job!!
I once came to check on my plant and the exhaust fan had died...the temps were 107!! In a pc!! man was I lucky she didn't get harmed..
take care

i'll put up some new pics of the plants once they get put into the new cab...it's not pretty. but they're still growing quite vigorously so i'm not too worried. i figure once i put them in a better more balanced environment they'll grow nice juicy nugs for me to smoke still! :D
