Hey chizzle...ta for stopping by, and the nice words!

The Black Cheese is by VerdantGreen.....who will apparently be unbanned in 3 days, assuming he chooses to return. *Come back VG, we miss you!*

It's Cheese (exodus cut) x Black Forrest. (Black Forrest = Vietnamese jungle landrace x (Hawaiian Sativa x Cherry AK-47)). Still waiting for it to pop out the soil, will put up pix when it comes up.

Yeah....goddamn gnats......totally my own fault....the big 70L bags of compost I use are kept in the garden, so that's where mine come from. Luckily, I don't see many in the veg cab....just the odd one or two.

I just had a quick fondle of the Spoetnik....very funky smell on the fingers....fruity (Paradise say "Corinthian grape") with a pungent brasso edge that really catches in the nose, causing uncontrollable watering.....most excellent. Still spitting out the odd new pistil, and only a few amber trichs so far, so we are in good shape to make it to the 18th, which will be 28 days after pollination.

Hey Blimey, great little setup. The Black Cheese sounds very interesting. Have you grown that before / any idea how it grows out? Love to see and hear more of it in the near future... Peace bro

Hey FreeMan...thanks for checking in...

I haven't grown the Black Cheese before....I'm testing it for VerdantGreen - my setup is very different from his, so it will be interesting to see any differences. He has a few pics in his 250 Thread.....in his signature a few posts up.

Here's the Black Cheese seedling....it's in a soil mix of 50% J. Arthur Bower's Multi-purpose compost, 40% tropical forest substrate, 10% Hydroleca.

Just for the record.....the BF and PB are in a straight 50/50 compost/hydroleca mix.

Still cold at nights slowing everything to a crawl.

Chuck.....thanks man.....I might put something like that down....found a larva on the root of a seedling (not the Black Cheese) yesterday.....killed the f***er but it bummed me out...

Smoking a tiny tester off the Spoetnik. Will get plenty of seeds, I think.

Sample Day....80, I think. Good potency. Unsubtle brick to the nut stone. Smell is less sweet and more cleaning agent.....I've found a lot of plants get that change in smell as they get ripe. Nice stuff. Don't know if "cerebral, clear" (as Paradise describe it) is how I would describe it. Perhaps my pheno leans more to the Black Russian? Who knows? Never smoked A13 or BR, so........smoked hardly any strains I actually knew the name of! Just what I've grown myself and a few visits years ago to the Dam.

Should be nice with another 8+ days to go. I think I can already safely give it a thumbs up....

sounds nice Blimey...sometimes unsubtle is best :D

I also find a lot of plants change smells throughout the cycle, and theres defintely something in playing with finishing times to get the best combination of highs and flavours as (to my mind) the "sweetest" flavours start to dimish as the plant ripens (although potency changes and can also increase)

When to harvest is such a tricky decision.....you see the "x% of amber" touted as gospel pretty much....but smells change....effects change....it's probably as much art as science to get the "best" out of a plant. Trial and error....

I guess deep down I like the mallet to the head indicas best. IQ drop of 50 points stuff. I like to know I'm totally annihilated....totally incapable of getting anything done.

But I've never tried a haze yet so...........so many strains....so little time....this hobby is so slooooow....a lifetime is so short.....sob.......:snap out of it:

Totally agree with you Blimey, I have a Widow pheno that if cut a bit early it has some strange anti-sleep properties. I have to treat it a little like having too many cups of tea before bed time, or else I just end up laying in bed looking at the ceiling all night!

How's that baby black cheese coming along?

Most of my MexiSat crosses have that property.

Black Cheese is fine...long way to go...here it is next to a Spoetnik that is 21 days older.....everything on the slowdown nowadays....

Here is Stumpy....day 14 of 12/12......starting to stretch and showing first pistils....she took a while to get used to her new pot....different medium and all.....getting lots of tiny white spots on the lower leaves.....I thought it might be spider mites...but no other evidence of them....can't see any mites, and no other plants have the symptom...I am baffled....but there's nothing unusual in that.

picture.php

Here is the Black Forrest f2.....my theory is that my tap water pH is a little high for this exotic beauty....the 1-blade leaves are total goners....but she hasn't stopped growing...still matching the PB leaf for leaf...maybe I should add some lemon juice to water for next time?

I have another BF in the towels, and am going to try that in a mix of John Innes Ericaceous compost and perlite (my local garden centre paid heed to my deranged rantings last time I visited, and is now overflowing with perlite and vermiculite). Drainage is everything...as we all know....Day 11 of 12/12.

The Power Black is a less picky beast......also at day 11.

you can get little white spots from pH problems too mate (in the absence of any bugs I mean) stumpy looks well but all her stems seem quite red.. were they always so red?... as this can also be a sign of pH issues...

just a thought... needs a more experianced eye than mine mate..

hehehe result getting the garden center stocked up.. when are they getting the canna coco and bud blood in mate?

hehehee :D

edit - its worth investing a tenner in some proper pH down mate.. vinegar and all that doesnt hold pH for any amount of time before swinging back up... a bottle of phos acid lasts agggggesss... especially in soil with your 6.5 and all that ;)

I've had red stems on almost everything recently....which I thought was the cold. Maybe my water pH has been up for a while? Wouldn't surprise me.

In her first incarnation, she didn't have red stems, iirc.

I'll add phos acid to the list of things to get. There's always something.....

No coco at the garden centre...I looked.....but they did have packets of mycorhizae (sp?) which I might revisit.
