cigarettes that is....

I'm so severely addicted to it, but i'm afraid if I dont quit now, my lungs will never recooperate from the damage i've done over my 13 + years of smoking....

does anyone know any ways or tricks I can quit?
Yes, i'm pregnant, so I can't use nicotine gum or patches...
if you are a former smoker.. how did you quit? did you ween? go cold turkey?

have you heard of the 'rubber band' trick?
arron, um,, whats his name the lead singer from staind... he used it to quit smoking pot after his kid was born (pot n cigs are diff but the technique could be applied).

*you put a big fat rubber band around your wrist
everytime you want to light up, snap that fucker good (and dont light up).

no matter what you do i wish you good luck kickign the cancer sticks

I suggest some chewing gum and sunflower seeds and dont ever have even one more cigg. Its a tough ride, you will eat more and be mean to your friends but in the end its worth it

lol mean to my fiancee lol

the rubber band method has been used quite some time now for those that are cutters... but the methodology is the same... its aversion therapy... when you think of cigarettes/cutting you smack your wrist with the rubber band, and it averts you from thinking of the benefits/drawbacks of your behavior

i went cold turkey. i started exercising alot more and noticed how my aerobic capacity had diminished because of smoking. as i gained it back it was a feeling of accomplishment and i didn't want to let my health go back down that road. so i suggest exercise. in particular some form of aerobic exercise. walking, running, swimming. try to push yourself and you'll see big gains in a short time and it should help fight the cravings. exercise releases endorphins naturally so i think that plays a role in it.

hey KK i smoked 2 packs a day for 26yrs ,i went and got hypnotized and i havent even touched a cig in 15yrs now it will be 16 in sept .the hypnotist i went to dodnt offer any other stuff just that you would not want to smoke when he was done so me and 25 people went into a room and within 20 mins of talking and 5-7 mins of breathing and relaxing technics it was done. worked for me ,i dont question why or how .all i know is i have not wanted or eve thought about smoking cigs again .the only thing i noticed was i smoked alil more weed for the 1st 2 weeks but then it went back to normal

i wish you the best of luck and 1 other thing YOU HAVE TO WANT TO QUIT

lots of distractions helped me . good food lots of exersize and alota hash. id just get incredibly baked go for a walk or watch something funny on the tv if i felt the urge to smoke a cig. when i really really needed a smoke id just fire up some heavy indy dom hash and just go to bed if nothing else worked. bout a month or so it was alot easier to deal with bout another month or so and there was no lookin back for me . its been three years now since ive stopped smoking cigs and the money i saved has been enough to buy a car. cigs just cost too much nowadays.

it is definitely the hardest thing to give up...

like chucky says...you have to want to quit or you will not quit.

20+ year ex-smoker here...gave it up before major surgery...had a few setbacks, but i am cig-free for 12 years now.

best of luck...one hour at-a-time until you can go one-day-at-a-time.

cold turkey got me off the cigs.

i could still light one up at any time, though. crazy as it sounds!

Yes, i'm pregnant
If thinking about the health of your unborn child is not enough to get you to stop smoking nothing will help.
My dad was on 40 a day & when he found out my mum was pregnant with my sister he stoped there & then, he didnt even finnish the half smoked pack he had, he just went cold turkey.
Just think of your baby everytime you want a cig & the craving will go away.

KK the best way to quit is to just not buy them anymore :joint: just think of how terrible they are for you and your unborn child, and think of how much money you waste weekly/monthly on poison! seriously think of it as paying someone to kill you, then think about how much cash you'll save, and its a no-brainer :joint:

it also helps if nobody smokes around you for a few days, but again, that should be a no-brainer since you're pregnant :joint:

good luck!

Well I do care about my unborn child enough to quit, but like everyone else says, you gotta want it period.. and I do, not just for my kid BUT for me as well. I'm sick of getting pneumonia numerous times a year....

this old lady at my work has the annual "cough" right now, and yet you still see her rush to the door at every break, and you can hear her outside hacking up her old beat lungs.... basically reason enough to quit right there: "do i really want to be like that when i'm old? the 'cool factor' doesn't really apply anymore lol"

that's another good point...i dont care what anyone says, most people start smoking because they are impressionable and want to 'fit in'/'be cool'.... but once you're outside in the freezing cold, hacking your lungs out, it sort of loses that "glamor", right?
