Indica VS Sativa

Ok guys and gals..

I have a friend, recommended Marijuana for his anxiety...

He says, sativas are recommended for people with anxiety, hence his DOCTOR!! telling him "Stay away from the indicas"

So, in effort to make him feel better, I mention SMOKE INDICA!

He is growing two sativas, OG Kush, and one other 70/30 hybrid.

He is under the impression OG Kush is INDICA dominant, even though I tell him it is SATIVA dominant. (Hence its gnarly stretch)

so, lets hear it.

OG Kush did not come from a "Kush" lol...

It just came with the name..

Nice try though...

Next??

EDIT: found this

"OG Kush is a super-potent variety of medical-grade Cannabis with very distinct aroma, appearance and long-lasting psychoactive and physiological effects.

OG Kush is a mostly Cannabis Sativa hybrid, clone-only cultivar found widely in Greater Los Angeles (Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura Counties), California, USA. The species is rumored to be another name for the legendary Chemdog (a.k.a. "Chemdawg" or "Chem") cultivar of Colorado/Wyoming, USA. In this widespread rumor, a 'cutting' (clone) of the "'91 Chemdog" made its way to Lake Tahoe, California early in the 1990's and that OG Kush is an 'S1' (1st generation offspring of a self-pollinated hermaphrodite) of this crop but it is only privately available in clone form and not in seed. Although not a "Kush," OG Kush does possess some Indica (Cannabis Sativa, Supspecies Indica) traits and it is rumored that it may have some Kush bred in its genetic heritage. However, it is mostly a Sativa in both phenotype and psychoactive effects when consumed. Some have described its effects as both cerebrally and physically stimulating and it's smell as "lemony pine-sol." The mature flowers usually appear as large and dense, lime-green clusters covered with copious amounts of "white" resin. It has sold on average for $75.00 USD for 1/8 ounce in most areas of Greater Los Angeles in 2007/2008."

just to counter-argue myself, and give credit where due.

EDITx3: And I dont smoke crack, just the greens...maybe you should smoke some more GREENS in effort to calm your ridiculous ass-backwards assumptions down a notch.

haha i was teasing about the crack pipe...

the og ive been growing for last 4 years has been indica... maybe i have a fake og.
ive also been a mega fan of the chemdog(doing a massive run of the DD) myself, and see the relation between chemdog and og.

OG was also bread out into SFV og and although illfully admit there hybrids they share more indica traits then most.

back to my original point though-
og is far closer match to master/bubba kush(what i consider a very indica dominant strain) then it is to a haze like supersilver.

most strains are hybrids... "kush" is usuly the sedative indicas. maybe og's name is a bit of a misnomer but its far more indica then its being claimed. atleast the cuts i have.

abusive og seams more sativa then sfv or 'original' og..

ive grown out too many strains to listen to the labeling on that.
maybe im spreading lies/bullshit....

grow out a haze and og kush, side by side, and then tell me what one YOU think is a sativa.

here is a massive sativa for you to enjoy.(supersilver haze)
had some whitefly issues that crop.

The OG I got from here in the valley went 75 days. I would have let her go further but humidity was to high so I pulled them.

Maybe we have different cuts. There are plenty floating around.

So, any other input?

Should somebody with "Anxiety" AVOID sativas, or smoke them.

Obviously someone with anxiety can smoke them or avoid them, but the person I am referring to is under the impression that Indicas will make the anxiety worst, whereas, I feel a up-beat, mind-racing sativa would quickly lead to anxiety in comparison to an indica.

this is me, depression/anxiety issues, likely had them for 30+ years
back in the day, when sativa ruled the land, i had different experiences
some sativas made me feel not too good, as in paranoid and jumpy
on the other hand, had some sativas that did make me feel a LOT better
never really connected the depression/anxiety dots until years later
so been trying my 1st indica for the last 6 months, nl#5, pretty good medicine for the most part
i'm going to ripen it a bit more this time, high hopes - lol
but i have read of some folks with the anxiety that have had full blown panic episodes from certain sativas
few episodes from some indicas too
so this is a tough one, strain by strain deal for each individual

For anxiety issues see DJ Short, he'll sort you right out. OG Kush is a bad choice for medicating anxiety....

Paranoid sativas are bad for anxiety. And some indicas are bad for anxiety. The range of effects of indicas is pretty wide, and you want to avoid any that kick you in the head too hard. You're looking for a calming, clear thinking strain, which could be apollo 11 for a sativa energizing effect, or maybe Mandala's Sadhu for a more chilled relaxation.

OG Kush when i smoked it was indica. Can't remember if it was anxiety meds.

In general, don't trust the doctors when it comes to cannabis. They're years behind.

Find out first. Duh.

Sorry to state the obvious here but.... everyone is different. Without actually 'trying' a few different indicas and sativas.... he's not gonna really know.

I used to groove on indicas.... back before I hit Cali and started doing strain research on what worked best for me. The only time I like indica's now is when I have nothing to do and/or am in so much pain I just want to fade out.

The rest of the time I prefer to enjoy life.... so I use sativas. Fortunately, sativas seem to work well for my anxiety.

Go find out. :D

I was told by an old grower friend that sativa's branches will come off the stock in pairs and the indica's branches will come off staggered. Is this right or wrong?

..|

ignore the .. they are just place holders

Generally... both Indica and Sativa, from seed, come in pairs until the 10th node or so. If you're talking clones, then they may pair up for a couple of nodes but stagger as a rule.

im disabled because of anxiety and issues related to ptsd. sativas make me really paranoid while indicas seem to relax me. ive been toking since the late 80's and seen my share of broad spectrum of strains. i love the indicas for my illness

yea but in socal kush is just a catch phrase added to the end of strain names that are considered top shelf, it doesnt mean a strain even has any hindu kush in it at all. Og kush is an indica sativa hybrid.

the truth is what works best for anxiety cannot be oversimplified by sativa vs indica and in reality the strains we deal with these days are nearly all hybrids. It really comes down to specific strains, lineages, and even specific phenos. The world is not black and white it is grey.

Fact; OG Kush comes from Chemdawg, nobody knows its complete lineage but everybody gets "OG Kush" and "Kush" confused --

People in southern california use the word "Kush" like I use the word "hello" - They'll throw the word kush on ANYTHING that is of high-quality.
