I like scenario 2 better because it will allow you to lower the lights enough to where you can make sure all the lower branches are getting plenty of it. All while the the top of the plant is getting tons of light as well. Your saying you want to finish at 5'. At 5 feet tall with light coming from only one height I think your really going to limit yourself on those lower branches.

I stack my lights so maybe im biased. However I notice KB does the same thing and his vertical setups are as good as they get.

I stack 2 1000's. Plant setup is like this: First row on the floor, second row 24" up, third row 24" up from second row. I start flower at about 12" and the plants finish around 32". They get just tall enough to cover up the pots from the row above them.

It's easier to work on the plants in the first setup (stadium style). I just saw 6 plants in 5 gallon coco hempy buckets around a 400w HPS and a 400w CMH stacked. The grower has to move at least 2 plants in order to get in and work/water other plants. If you have room, then you can water from behind, but that grower was using her closet. It was very tight and a little hot, but the buds looked amazing. Those CMH bulbs really bring out different colors in the medicine.
IMO you don't need 2 1000s to get some great plants. Strip the lower 3rd of each plant. Top a few times. Stake the branches or tomato cage it. Done.
2 1000's, the right strain, some rotating/training and a simple nutrient formula should give you 4 lbs easy.
