Male selection...

Hey everyone just bought a tent to breed in and have a few questions before i throw them in a tent...

First is actually about pollen... should i be changing clothes and stuff before entering my flowering room that i donot want pollinated..?

2nd
is amount of light... does the amount of light effect the quality of pollen? like for an example i use a shop light it barley buds but i get some pollen itll be the same pollen if i put 56wpsf on it correct... genetics are genetics...

3rd without growing out the offspring with males visual observations is the only way to select a male... does this mean i should try and flower it with the correct amoutn of wpsf?
obviusly less light is gonna equal for a shit looking plant no matter what it is...

i know these are noob question but i keep clones of males too and flower them out and only keep any males if they look special... use pollen and if anythign is up to my liking try and find another males out of that pollen that fit the discripition of the male that the female was pollinated from....

hope that makes sense....

more light = more flowers = more pollen. males are happy with cfl's, you could pollinate a field with a male on your windowsill in shaded light.:)

The more light the better the plants, but you will still get enough pollen to make seeds with a 11w incandessant...:)

If you're spreading pollen I suggest changing clothes, wet your hair down and wash your hands well too. Pollen and water don't mix well.

Poopy, I actually move my donor male to a separate room on another side of the house and collect his pollen in a prescription bottle under a 28w (100w) florescent. It doesn't spread pollen and makes no mess. Store about 40 degrees and it'll last. Dust your chosen female with a model car paint brush at your pace, not the plants.

True says blood,, now ya learning  (that aint derogatory) ,, you just seeing the real light :canabis:

We've seeded male flowers,, from 1oz shot glass grows to selected males from 1 in 200,,, and you know what,, a nice male plant is a nice male plant,, end of. Dont believe the b/s and hype ppl are selling ya.. half these folks chat out of cash-cards,, and wouldn't know a real male if it hit them under moon light!

Keep doing the do for the love of erb plants.. and things will soon work out fine :canabis:

1. pollen travels on cloth as well as wind. viable for a few days.

2. no. pollen is pollen once active,, genetics aren't phenotypical in that sense,, from 10,000 watt + hps to the kitchen window,, the pollen represents the male genetics,, regardless of the environ it is grown in. The next generation will always grow stronger if in better conditions than the parents were.. that's just how genetics work.

3. looks don't matter. when breeding we are passing on genetics to the next lineage. not the warts of the mother or the pimples of the dads. the genetics and beauty beneath them is what we aim to see... so aim for sexy ladies... sex is everthing in this world!!!!!!!!!!

hope this helps :D

We place the male and female in the same space for a few days,,, when viable,, and then they tango.. until we remove the male pollen source and watch dem seeds set :canabis:

The longer you wait the more mature the seeds you get!!! TOP TIP!!!

... and so forth ...

Don't sweat the light ... save on the electric bill and use T-12 tubes.

One warm - one cool works fine, just lean them up against a wall with the plants underneath when they get tall, fill out, & flower.

Don't worry too much about pollen flying around either. A simple water spray knocks most of it out of the air, and once on the ground, it rarely goes elsewhere. Relax, we're talking pollen here, not radioactivity or chemical toxins.

Very small scale, one-on-one, crosses ( or the functional equivalent ) can just "let fly" and see what happens. The truth is, given the current state of the available gene-pool, it's really, really, hard to make a seed, that grows a plant, that won't get you high. It might be faster or not, larger or not, smell like old socks or a bouquet, but it will get you buzzed. It takes real talent to screw it up.

In a mid-sized, BCGA style, simplified RRS ( Reciprocal Recurrent Selection ) "breeding development" grow, with 30 - 40 seeds started, and 15 - 20 males, five or six might be selected as pollen donors for the next round. Sex is determined by going 12/12 for several days and looking for pollen sacks. The first few to show, the quickest, are viewed skeptically ... for possible "hemp" expression. The same for the last few to declare ... if they can't make up their mind, there's a larger chance for hermi traits. From the middle batch, look for outstanding attributes ... heavy flower production, strong smell, trichomes, ... overall size matters less. Mix the selected pollen, apply liberally to each of their sisters, test them, keep the best ( by whatever criteria or standards you wish ) and go on to the next round.

Of course, you can always flower each male, save the pollen separately, and spend a week or two smoking the smallest leaves of each, and then make an informed selection based on the number of grimaces, winces, dry coughs, and headaches, each delicious toke of "green male goodness" has produced.

Your choice.
