Root growth during flowering

My buddy seems to think that as soon as a plant is put on 12/12 the roots stop growing. I think this just isn't true. I think that the roots are still growing as the plant grows, then once it stops growing and starts putting all of its energy into the buds, the roots then stop growing. What are your thoughts?:)

Your buddy is 100% wrong. Roots keep growing on 12/12, I know that for a fact.

I don't know about transplanting half way or more into flower, but I've transplanted 2-3 weeks into 12/12 without any probs before.

It's not just thoughts, it's scientifically proven.

Just grow in a clear container and switch to 12/12.

You will see the roots grow.

yeah, thats what I meant. Just a lil' medicated :D. He uses roots accelerator during veg and then stops using it during flowering on suggestion from the local hydro store owner. Is this good practice? should he continue to use the roots accelerator during flowering?

ive seen people here saying the same thing, but ive grown in coca cola bottles, you can notice the root growth difference during flowering, towards the end of flower you have a thick white coating at the bottom,

Even though the roots will still grow during flowering, you want the plant to concentrate on making big, fat buds, and not using energy on too much new greeny material, so I wouldn't use any root accelerator during flowering.

I have superthrive, and I might use it during veg and when transplanting, but I wouldn't use it during flowering.

a plant (any plant) is an open system,...the roots and the above ground parts mirror one another, if the above grew 12" in one day, then you can be sure the roots also grew at LEAST 12" in the same day, even in flowering with a 12/12 photo-period

if your growing flowers, you're also growing roots.

that's what I tried to explain :D

Warning

Don't take any grow advice from a member called whiterabbit9. Your plants may very likely die from it.

He apparently disagrees with my post stating that roots continue to grow when flowering. He is obviously clueless and knows nothing about growing. He has no grow log, no grow diary and no pictures.

How do I start this grow log? I have been taking pictures of my plant every day since I started flowering it

You can just go to the sub forum called grow diaries and make a thread there if you want. That's where most people post their grows.

The plant has cell division going on in the apical and axillary meristems and the root cap at all times of growth. Plants grow in a sigmoid pattern: slow at first (seed germination), fast growth (during vegetative stages), then slow growth (maturation and reproduction). So yes the roots are still growing during flowering but more slowly than during vegetative growth.

Dicots (which marijuana is) grow from their tips not their base.

Hope that is helpful.

Root cells constantly die off and are replaced by plants, thats how i understood it.
