There is a great deal of interest in the strains created by the grower Chemdawg. The story goes like this. At a Grateful Dead show at Deer Creek Amphitheatre, 'joebrand' (aka 'wonkanobe') and 'pbud' met 'chemdog' and sold him an ounce of very high quality pot for $500. .

there it is again... 500 bucks for a oz of pot in 89/90... what bullshit... is there anyone...anyone out there that paid 500 bucks 20years ago for a 'z'...

Hey Zack why dont you give us something better than "Thats bullshit" when people quote the lineage. You have a clue or just dont believe the price? People have been paying crazy prices for a long time and 20 years ago was the 80 so I could see that being a price set for high grade MJ. Dont see where that is soooooo unbeweavable. AGain I am gonna believe the guy who origianlly posted the info over your outrage over prices making the story bullshit. Again give us all a lesson please if we got it wrong.

In '89/'90,on Dead Tour, the going rate was well under $400,with a mean average of about $300.... Not even close to $500 unless you bought it by the gram on the lot, from baseheads....
My first Dead show was '85,my last,'95-because I don't include the "money grab" pseudo-Dead that's toured since, though I have seen that (mostly pathetic) lineup.... The "Dead" tour with Joan Osbourne wailing out Donna parts, well, there's not enough acid on Earth to make that palatable. Phil & Friends with Warren (who I know personally) were FAR superior.

The first time I tried Chemdog (which mind you I don't have any idea what cut it was) was absolutely some of the best I've ever come across.

I have a close circle of pro smokers and one night we were all sharing our best; resulting in getting viciously high. I'm talking around 1/2 oz between 4 people with fullmelt and kief topping many a bong load. Nothing that we were smoking would be considered anything less than top shelf. I then busted out the Chemdog and it was like we all leveled up. Every one of us were fully aware and amazed that after basically smoking for hours on end of fantastic herb, that the Chem was just that much better.

I actually bought an ounce of it (from harborside of all places) and it looked almost immature, evident by the white hairs was actually next to wet when I got it. I had it cured for six months at the point of my story, but from the get go it was amazing. Although it did get better with time.

It was very light green, with very dark trimmed off fan leaves and as I stated earlier even had white hairs. I noticed it was racy, but very comfortable with no anxiousness that some sativa dominant strains display.

The first picture was before the extended cure. I noticed the nanner, but that was the only one and did not effect the potency.

I seen the chemdog come back through a second time to harborside, but it wasn't as good of a batch as the first time around. I also paid around $400 for each ounce and would do it again for the first batch because it was that just good. I know how ridiculous that is, but that first batch was more than worth it. Since I've seen what they say is chemdog come through, but it's just no where near the same.

Oh and it reaked even if it was in a glass jar inside another air tight glass jar.

my first dead concert was maybe 71 in washington dc at rfk .. 100k people, and over 100f on the field... we bought a lid for i think 20bucks... and then saw em again a few weeks later at watkins glen with about 700k friends.. that concert walking back to the bus in a monsoon, cured me of large gatherings for life...

Zac - Who buys herb at concerts? Just like stoners not to be prepared. Anyways, I am just curious as to any 'history' you have on the plant that we can use and wouldnt a lid for $20 bucks in 71' be about $500 a zip in 89'??

But hey Rain Subcool obviously doesn't know shit right? Even though you can go find the thread where him and Chem were talking about a collab. In that same thread is where I quoted the lineage and I think if it were wrong Chem himself would have said so...

But who cares really GETMO just wants to know what cut he should keep which I'd like to know as well... I hear Snowdog is the best out of all of them but then again I'm not all on the nuts of Sour D and Chem crosses like the masses so I could be wrong... I've smoked 2 different cuts of Chem91 and the Skunk VA cut was the best one I tried cuz the Apothecary shit just didn't do it for me...

So true Rez. The shows from the mid 70s were my personal favs. I caught the "Dead" w/Joan Osborne new years eve Oakland '02 and it was definitely second rate dead... of course without Jerry one cannot expect it to be the same... not to mention Robert Hunters opening act was so pathetic.. wow. He does however, write good songs. The New years eve show at Cow Palace SF in 1976 had Santana as the opener now that was a stellar show...or the Oakland Collesium day on the green that same year where the Dead opened for the Who was also super memorable.
Phil and friends = FTW.

Personally there was never a Dead show that I attended that I don't remember, or try to remember, fondly. Never forget the feeling right before encore wishing it didn't have to end, and trying to get a good picture in my head to remember. Thank god for free audience tape downloads, I get in my car, and pop in a cd, and go back a few years. Thanks to all of you tapers and keepers of the archives.

Indeed, 91 and 92 i was regularly buying very good quality indoor at a location not to far from the amphitheater in the story for 125 a quarter. Sometimes would get it for 100 per q. I dont find that too hard to believe at all.
