I see from one site that boron is very important for the plant to move sugers from leaf to roots back and forth ,he said it was up there with cal,mag as a need.Is this true? If so would it make good foiler feed to add to my mix of cal, fulvic acid, kelp, fish.

Yea it can help, sorry I didn't respond to your original question, it got lost in the shuffle. But too much of anything is not good, so you should start low application rates. I assume you are referring to the amino acid chelate of boron?

Sea-Crop and Ocean Solutions products are high in boron...high enough. Use as a foliar and you get all of the other goodies in those products. Use a a soil drench also. No need for isolated born products like amino acid chelates that are synthesized. Stick with natural derived organic inputs.

I got a organic boron its like 5% not alot but im thinking it could be good to add to my foiler feedings that im going to do one time each week.

Hey JM,

Those amino acid chelates are OMRI (or NOP) and pass more easily into leaf. It's best to apply boron, Ca, etc as foliar to avoid nutrient lockout concerns in media (even in organics).

Hey Mania,

I wouldn't apply it once a week, maybe once every two weeks. I would suggest you buy the chelate I gave you the link to for foliar application. It's only a few dollars and totally worth it...and remember you may want to follow the method I laid out when spraying foliar solution for max absorption.

Fuck OMRI and what they approve. OMRI and OTCO approve some stuff as organic I would not touch with a 10' pole. OTCO approves alkali/acid extracted humic acids and that stuff is basically shit. They are not even acids but salts cause of the potassium or sodium hydroxide they use in the process. Nothing against you here.

Dude...the boron in something like Sea-Crop or Ocean Solution is in monoatomic form...at least some of it. What form of an element is smaller than an atom? No chelate, chloride or nitrate is needed here.

I got a weird story about Sea-Crop and it's absorption capabilities. We'll just say it can be totally absorbed through your skin.

Hey JM,

Leafs are not as easy to penetrate as many people think. Solutes must pass the aqueous pores and cuticle layer. There is more to the story than size, consider ions are absorbed well but not as well as when they are correctly applied.

I would not use sea crop due to the unwanted elements it holds, I have not looked into it much at all but it is from seawater after all.

Hey Maina,

Yea once every two weeks. Maybe 40-50 ppm of each to start and work up from there but most applications of Ca foliar sprays in horticulture is often 50 ppm to over a hundred ppm.

I would get both of them separately so you can apply them at different concentrations if you wish to do so.

If you mean an EC meter then yea, you can convert from EC to PPM (TDS), or from PPM to EC, etc. Check out this page for easy conversion:

Wow awsome link! thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are using tap water consider trying to find out if boron is already present (Your local city government might be able to help you with this). This may be able to supply the boron without having to add any more inputs into your system.
