I veg them to 30" - 36" and I keep my hoods at a little more than 6' so I can walk under them (done with testing the strength of skull). I run them in 20gal Brute trash cans for now and the water level is about at my knee (19" or so off the ground). So I basically have a 4' bud region and my ladies get to be 4' in diameter. My biggest ever still came from a 5 gallon bucket.

nice, hydrosun! Thanks for the props bro! that is one big beotch you got there!!! however... If you veg 1kw 24/7, you are using the same power as 2 1kw's in bloom. that is energy wasted. Though I totally get what you guys are throwin down. big healthy trees will certainly yield. I will never argue that! I'm all out of +rep to give, bron2k n you hydro.

You are correct. I have 1Kw in veg 24/7 and 8Kw in 12/12 doing you half on half off so my total is 1Kw veg 2Kw flower every day ;)

And I actually use 300w of T5 and the like in my nursury, so I am really using a lot of veg wattage compared to the normal grower veg to flower ratio.

Just my deal, but it is working for me. Your idea to use half the flower wattage is hands down the best way to increase yield.

I love them. Pain in the ass to set up but once set up it rules. Since I have 8 lights its a Light Rail 5, the industrial one, with extra parts.

wasup toohigh! bro so you dont think that if you veg your babies under a 1k mh it'll make your plants alot more bigger and thicker? cuz i use to veg under cfls and they were pretty weak going into flower. i believe when you get them nice and thick or bushy in veg that'll you end up with a better yield. let me know how yours is doing under cfl. thanks bro!!

In all honesty, I think that the T-5's produce a great spectrum that is almost equal to that of a 1000w MH. look at this 5+' tall mom in a 4" rockwool cube grown under a 125w CFL.

Hi bron2k

First off that is a beautiful room.

I just read this thread and there was some good advise given, but one thing that I noticed is that you are only running 9 plants per 1k. I dont know what kind of hoods those are, but I run very low yielding high quality indica plants, and I can top out over 2# per 1k regularly with the basic no frills setup.

My hoods will effectively light a 6' x 7' area, and I can fit 25-30 plants under each of those hoods easily, but obviously I dont run all huge trees. I run organic soil in 5 gal containers though, but still, not hard to pul over 2#'s from 25-30 plants.

hey thanks everyone for your input! stone i think i have to agree with you on that. cfl is great for moms but definitely not for vegging. i just don't see how a cfl can out perform a 1k.

phoenix- i would do 25-30 sites per 1k but that's way too many sites bro. i like to keep my plant count at a minimum but still yield a lot. i think i'll hit my goal this run since i added co2 and 6 more buckets. so now i got a total of 42 sites and only 4 1k. thanks everyone!!

dont get me wrong cfl's are great for moms but when you are vegging for 1 week 2 max you need mh

MH has no place in my garden. If I'm going to use HID lamps, their HPS. MH to me stands for minimal harvest:dunno:

they work great for street lights and baseball stadiums, but I gave up on MH for ANYTHING related to growing.
HPS puts out more lumens and plenty of blue to veg plants way faster than MH. Ask Ed! I veg under T5's and CFLs and the NM in the 6k+ kelvin's light is much more visable and WAY more efficient than MH. switchable ballasts are for those people who believe what they see on TV, fall for Ponzi schemes, and think oxyclean and the shamwow are no doubt quality products. this is evident through opinions of the users of MH trying to justify using them. sorry. hate to break it to you guys, but MH is BS.:smokey:
