Bringing this thread back again!

I'm looking to get a 4" inline and carbon filter. People seem to like the Valueline fans but what about the Active Air inline fans at Plantlighting Hydroponics?

Valueline-

Active Air

Also how are these carbon filters?

And what is the difference between the filter and the scrubber?

thanks for the link!

LOL Absolutely! Hope it helps and let me know what you end up going for.

I'm ordering the Valueline I've decided. Apparently they work quietly and guys really seem to like them even compared to more expensive fans. I'll try that filter also.

I have the 8" valueline , I'm happy with it. Not sure about the 745cfm but it moooooves some air. The fan doesn't make noise itself just the air..... but that's a lot. I slowed it down and of course the speedster makes it hum at low speeds. got 8 inch R8 ducting to hook up.

Edit I have it hooked to can 66.... think I should have got the can 100

I got my caps 6 inch value line , its quieter then my vortex .
It comes with rubber pads unlike the vortex fans also .
The caps value line fans are built strong and push/suck just great , I have mine hung up with bungee cords .

There good fans if your not gonna use a speed controler and they are loud............Spend the extra dough and geta vortex:smokeit:

Those here that have both side by side say it's quieter than the Vortex. :dunno:

I like the rubber pad idea too.

FIVE YEAR GUARANTEE!!

I know of three that went back to valuline (known issue on the OLDER 8" units) and they replaced all three no questions asked.

GREAT fans, about like a vortex, but HALF the cost, nice and quiet (mine is still quiet even tho I use a router speed control too!)

they MOVE air!!, I run my 6" at at 50% and it keeps my 1K hortilux garden at 77 degrees.

when I move and get a larger place, and add some grow space, I'm DEFINITELY getting more of these.

Why is it bad to use them with a Speed Controller lol? They work fine on a speed controller, i just got a speedster control the other day and it works great. And no, they aren't loud. The only sound you can really hear is from the moving air, the fan itself makes little to no noise and produces practically NO vibration. I haven't tried a Vortex, but there is no way a Vortex could be THAT much quieter. In fact, most people say they are quieter.

I think you are thinking about another fan, or have not tried one. This is not the Eco Plus, which can not be speed controlled.

Yea, the rubber pads are neat. It's a good way to reduce vibration even more, they are quality fans for sure and C.A.P. is a reliable company from my experiences so far.

The Active Air Fans i don't know much about, but i noticed they look almost exactly like the Valuelines, just look at the shape and details. Only difference i can see is that they are powder coated green, and have a slightly lower CFM rating. But CFM ratings are never exact. I also noticed that plantlightinghydroponics doesn't say anything about a warranty on the Active Air.

You have to let the fan come up to full speed then you can start dialing it down. If you start slow it wont and will just hum.

Sometimes I slow it down and it's quite and sometimes it develops a hum. :dunno:

I'm hoping my insulation job is going to isolate the room enough to run 2 of the 8's

Excellent. What about those little carbon filters they have there? Anyone have any experience?

OK sorry for two in a row but I did some research and found that those little filters are not very good at removing the odor, but their Hepa filters have applications. So I just went ahead and bought the Valueline 4" fan and the Hydrofarm fan controller. I'll look around for a better charcoal filter. Thanks everyone for the help. =)

sparky You found the answer before I got here, You want a can filter style carbon filter. If budget is an issue may I suggest the DIY carbon filter found in the DIY link section?

Go with a EcoPlus Carbonaire or Can Filter. Both are high quality. Plantlightinghydroponics has the Carbonaire 6" Filter for $109 which is about $40-$50 cheaper than anywhere else.

Nice one George. My 4" came in yesterday and today I hooked it up with the controller to test it out. Works great and doesn't mind being throttled down. I'll get some pics when I get it installed.
