Can't Stop the Flow! Two 4,000 Pound Marijuana Busts!

It looks like law enforcement has their hands full these days with tons of marijuana being busted almost daily across the USA. Here are two articles from today, each with 4,000 pounds (two tons) of cannabis, obviously imported from Mexico.

Looks like a lot of UNTAXED, UNREGULATED product being shipped around the US.

Don't want UNTAXED, UNREGULATED, crappy cannabis flooding America's streets and supporting the Mexican Cartels? Then LEGALIZE IT!

There's more, the Border Patrol also made four busts totaling another 4,000 pounds in one district!

So far that's like 12,000 pounds in one day... And that's probably only a drop in the bucket of what got thru in one day!

http://www.kold.com/Global/story.asp?S=11959770

To give you an idea of how much is being seized overall, just in the Tucson Border District:
In the first four months of this fiscal year (Oct. 2009 through Jan. 2010), agents seized more than 350,000 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value exceeding $287 million. During the same time frame last year, the Tucson Sector Border Patrol seized 341,000 pounds of marijuana.

I'm no math whiz but each 4000 pounds of schwag is probably about $4,000,000 untaxed unregulated cash going back to Mexico

They can't even keep WEED out of JAILS!

My uncle got busted with 140 plants and he said that it was easier to get weed in JAIL than on the streets!

That says ALL ANYBODY EVER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT THE LAWS ABILITY TO KEEP WEED ILLEGAL!

IT IS MORONIC!

surely you arent so naive to think that some of these major grow ops posted right here on these very forums arent supporting some organized crime? gimme a break dude.

i support alll mj worldwide too, doesnt matter where its from, or what people are doing with it, or buying with the money from the sales. fact of the matter is weed is a plant and just like every other plant on the planet was created by god not man. man has no power to stop any other man from having something provided by god.

It doesn't matter if people here use it for the purpose or not. I just didn't know that people would support organized crime. I don't really support violence, a technique which organized crime usually employs.

I support the plant, but I support legalization so that this kind of thing will end. I don't enjoy American money leaving America for a low quality product that supports organized crime.

Maybe if you guys didnt gouge people and charge 500+ for a oz of good stuff... they wouldnt need to turn to cheap mexican weed.

I know I live in Canada and i wont pay more then 220 for a oz and that is just the way it is, no one i know will pay more then that. Seeing those high prices is kinds sickening.
No one to blame but your greedy selfs.

I have never seen any $500 ounces in the USA either. However, the beasters coming out of Canada are starting to be become just as shitty as the bricks that come up from Mexico.

A) You either buy compressed and heavily seeded Mexican brick weed.
B) Wet and more commonly now moldy beasters from Canada.
C)Grow your own or know someone who does.

I live on the East coast and I understand that some of the larger city areas can get away with charging outrageous prices, but than again everything in the city is pricey even if its a legal commodity. Still haven't ever come across $500 ounces tho. The most I've seen was $350/oz for dried dense nugs.

According to the clip below, looks like it's worth ~$800 per pound. Sounds about right, lol. If it were taxed 10% per lb, that would be about $28 mil for regulators if it were legal. As it stands, no telling how many millions we spent in order to seize it.

Skip thanks for posting..these stories should wake up some polititions as to the tax possibilities we are missings and...

...DB has a good point as well..not only are we not collecting the taxes, we are spending millions to stop the inflow of it along with the millions to encarcerate the offenders. I think if it were legalized this all would swing the other way. DD

I agree :)

And again, legalization would have these prices plummet to where the inflated prices are no more and all that remains is the fair market value

Well as for price gouging, don't you think the US government will make sure to profit as much as possible from the sale of MMJ? If people are buying it for 350/oz for decent headies, they will most likely offer 350/oz for top of the line medical strains. I guesstimate that the average heady oz will be 250-300 in the US. Also consider that the US's outdoor season is WAY better than any outdoor season in Canada, thus the bud will be that much better.

I think that legalization needs to be done for the right reasons. Legalizing in order to halt Mexican drug runners is one thing, but MMJ is more than just a way for Mexicans to make a quick dollar in the US. MMJ can help medicate people with some of the worst ailments known to man-kind.

I think that the medical qualities of MMJ are what need to be put in the press more, not that Mexicans run a dirty excuse for pot across the borders in 5,000 lbs palettes. The media gobbles these type of articles up, because it allows uninformed media personalities to put MMJ down due to its ties to organized crime. Organized crime in the US is funded mostly by the sale of illegal drugs! If you want to get rid of organized crime, get rid of illegal drugs. It has been proved in history from prohibition, just do it.

my 2 tokes.

K first off stop with this imported = swag business. Everywhere there is weed there is good and bad. And if people want to pay for the cheap shit then thats whats imported, see supply and demand 101. All these generalizations, for example I've seen seeds in more then half the weed I see in the northern states when I visit but I'm not about to turn around and spout off like an idiot with some crap about how US bud is all seedy. Second better then the Niagara fruit belt? And are you serious, weed grows all over the world and different strains grow just as well there as they do in the states and before you go all high and mighty maybe you should consider your countries pesticide policies and reevaluate exactly how great legal commercially grown bud will be.

"If you want to get rid of organized crime, get rid of illegal drugs. It has been proved in history from prohibition," What!? Prohibition only fueled organised crime lol.

Thanks Skip for the posts, saves me a lot of time.

im sure what he was saying is prohibition only help crime.

anyway yeah i dont know where you live, maybe its cuz i live in a city but ive had friends hook me up to their connects a time or 2 when i wanted some "premium" :rolls eyes: shit. lets see $60 an eight for some tutti frutti 8x6= 48 no? so im paying almost $500 an ounce for weed. i did that 1 time, and 1 time only because i wanted to see what this tutti frutti was like. it was really good, but it wasnt no fucking $500 a goddamn ounce good. shit. most im willing to pay for an ounce of any weed is $100 maybe up to $150. but thats it. i mean its not like its crack, you dont have to chop coca leaves and do a chemistry experiment to make weed. you put a seed in the ground and come back in the fall and collect your money. i love mexican outdoor. im all about the sativa, and mexico, columbia, jamaica is where they come from. ill take a good mexican sat over that tutti frutti, some kush, nycd any day of the week.

but back to the topic at hand. i dont want a decriminalization of weed i want that shit removed from the controlled substances list, i want the whole list cleared actually. but a naturally occuring plant being banned from use worldwide? and everyone just sits back and takes it? talk about an emperor and new clothes. weed being illegal is big business as evidenced by these busts. $28 mil in 4000lb of weed that naturally grew from the ground on its own, fucking genius. i wouldnt be surprised if these mexican cartels and etc they flash in the news every few weeks to keep you nice and scared, werent run by americans. CIA, ex-cia, whatevers. the cops make a nice chunk of money from it, get to pretend that they actually fight dangerous criminals, and then they get shiny toys like helicopters and flamethrowers to play with.

no what needs to happen is weed be legal. if it was legal there would be no market for anyone selling it because anyone can grow it. simple as throwing some seeds out your back window on that last snowfall and coming back in the fall to collect your reward.

but that wont happen. too much money to be made by it being illegal.

mexican brick weed is a serious threat to our economy... but i must say the brick is very profitable seeing you can get for around 100/lb down in Texas. think of all the money being leached right out of our country. border patrol has there hands full check out there webpage. unreal. 10,000lbs every week easily.

"Our" prices??

Not all of us are growers. The majority of us are actually consumers and we WELCOME competetion as a way to keep the BS inflated market down.
