Migraine relief

I have chronic migraines, sometimes lasting for days and even WEEKS. (One recently lasted 12 days...). I went for 29 years resisting taking pain pills, trying every other kind of remedy under the sun to no avail. My migraines have literally shitcanned a year or more of lost days hiding in a dark, quiet room, hoping for sleep. Hoping that when I wake up, it'll be gone. Flying Goat made a good point, the acetaminophen is not good for you, thusly why my doctor prescribes IR Oxycodone, devoid of any and all Tylenol, but providing a measure of relief, allowing me to go to work or whatever else is needed in my day to day life. Pain pills suck, but migraines damn near every day are worse, and for me at least, debilitating. I'm still in search of the strain that'll give me relief, I have some promising things on deck (Bubba, OG, Juliet, OJD's SSSDH), hopefully I find one that'll end my dependence on pain pills... :flu:

Positive vibes to all, and especially fellow migraine sufferers. I know your pain... :huggg:

Wow... I've NEVER heard of a migraine lasting a day or more. Now I feel fortunate because after I puke and fall asleep (a general routine), I know I'll feel good when I wake up. I really hope you are able to get that fixed!

I know exactly how you feel about pills. It's the lesser of two evils. I don't like pharmacies and I think these pills are VERY dangerous (I never take more than 7.5 mg of oxycodone/week, no matter what). But when I have a migraine... I realize I'd do almost anything to alleviate the pain. Oxycodone helps the pain. It sucks, but I gotta do it. That's why I'm here... hopefully I'll find an alternative.

If none of this works, I think I'll find a really heavy indica and just smoke it until I fall asleep.

Thanks guys... I don't even know if I'll be able to grow all of these strains! That's a good problem to have lol

It's funny so many people have said pot doesn't help their migranes. I get about 2 a month that just shut me down to where all I want to do is go to bed. The one thing I have found is Icecream from paradise seeds does wonders. When I smoke it with a migrane it's literally like flipping an off switch. Try experimenting with mostly indica strains like Icecream

I've grown many strains, and smoked even more, only came across a couple that actually helped, but it was just random bags from the street. Besides that, body chemistry and/or reasons for the migraines vary widely, so your blanket statement doesn't really hold water, laugh if you want, it's not very funny. Hell, I wish I only got 2 a month, that'd be beautiful... I will give IceCream a try, thanks for the suggestion. :smokeit:

Yeah, lets just say my daily maintenance dose to keep from getting sick is at least 2-4x your weekly max. I get 30's, and cut them into halves and 1/4's. On my worst day, I've taken a cumulative total of 3, and could've taken more, but it just wasn't working, so I just stopped taking them and suffered. Most migraine days I usually take between 45-60 mg, and it won't kill the pain completely, just take the edge off, from a constant 7 with 10 spikes every so often (on a pain scale of 1-10, 1 being nothing and 10 being excruciating pain), to a 3-4, with a spike of a 6 or 7 every so often, MUCH more manageable and easier to bear. Do I want off the pills? Hell yes. Do I want to be in pain? Hell no. It's a FAR lesser evil, for me anyway...

Without pain meds, my quality of life would be absolute SHIT, and I know this, I dealt with my pain for 29 years before I finally got sick of it and decided to do something about it. I've tried just about every migraine medication, remedy, whatever, NOTHING works. My momma gave me my good looks, my charm, and my migraines. 2 outta 3 ain't bad. :whistling: Haha. :D

As for getting them "fixed", they're genetic. Unless there is a surgery or something else science comes up with, I'm screwed. My burden to bear, others have things worse, so I just try to deal with it the best I can. :comfort:

I'll have to give that a shot, thanks! This is the "Phoenix Tears" that supposedly cured skin cancer, right?

At the time of my cervical rhizotomies (1998), I had had an awful migraine (how I functioned, I don't know) for over 6 weeks. It ended when my pain mgmt doc finally hit the last nerve (after burning out all the rest) on the right side of my neck. Rhizotomy is a Frankensteinish procedure during which the patient is paralyzed with Fentanyl & somewhat anesthetized with Versed.

An 18 ga. needle is introduced through the strap muscles of the neck (side) into the spinal facet joint. Once inside the facet joint, the fluoroscope is engaged & a nerve is located & contacted. A nerve stimulator is used to determine whether that nerve is a motor nerve (if your arm flaps, they back away from it) or a sensory nerve (no muscular reaction, but you hear yourself crying "Uuunnnnngh!" from a distance & it reproduces the white-hot sensation of your worst nightmares).

Then, once nerve type is ascertained, they inject a bit of steroid (Depo-Medrol) & heat the needle to 90C, which burns it & kills it back to the root if done properly.

There is a 6-week recovery period in which you do not bend over for any reason, etc.

Usually after a couple or 3 years, the nerves grow back (as mine have)... Do I want to go thru that again? No way in Hell...

I'm grateful to have the ones I have now....

Wow, you guys are really messed up :D

I'd like to see the anti-mmj people have any of these conditions. I'm really sorry to hear all of this stuff and I hope everyone finds the right medicine for it.

Also, BudGood, that's a lot of drugs!

Yeah, Xfargox, I may be messed up, but the spirit is still young & still kicking!

Now you understand why, since my son's 18 now, I'm no longer afraid of being arrested... At least I don't have to sorry about Child Services anymore...

Still, my state has a mandatory minimum of 3 years for 1 seedling, unless for some reason charges get dropped...

Judge if you wish. I really don't care anymore, I'm far past caring what others think TBH. I'm quite aware it is alot of drugs, thanks for pointing that out though.

Flying Goat, at this point, I'd consider the procedure you just described. I would even entertain brain surgery, seriously....

Crucial Migraine attack last night

Crucial Migraine attack last night

im just watching the super bowl, during a commercial break i decide to hit the weights for a couple minutes. after my litttle workout i start to notice that i am losing vision, i can barely see the TV because theres this huge bright light in my eyes.

fuuucck, i know whats happening next. i pop 2 advil migraine but they dont really work. sure enough an hour later i got a massive headache. i turn off all the lights, smoke some herb, and try to sleep it off. i wake up an hour after that and puke my guts out. then its dry heaves a couple more times after that. i hate how migraines make me loose stomach function, dry heaving SUCKS.

what a shitty fucking night. FUCK MIGRAINES. no idea what triggered this one except maybe i was dehydrated and worked out? anyways, dissapointed me in how the marijuana didnt do jack shit to help out. i can still feel a little pain in my head so now im thinking about skipping classes for today.
to top it all of my computer has a malware virus that i need to figure out how to get rid of. and plus the mods here keep deleting the YB stripclub threads.

what a fucking shitty way to start the week.

I had a blazing headache the other day. Was scaring me. Then someone told me 90% of headaches are from dehydration, I had never heard of that but I drank a good amount of water and it was gone.

For real...FIRST YOU MISS YB THREAD and now this....whats next?

headaches are from lack of sleep, food, caffeine or something misaligned in your neck area.

funny, i had one yesterday as well! a small snack, a couple of Excedrin and a couple pulls off of a rockstar kills 99% of my headaches....

if that dont work, off to my chiropractor and its long gone.....

weed always seems to make it worse....

yea i swear weed does NOT help headaches in anyway. i ripped some of that kush this morning, didnt help at all. the coughing made my headache worse.

so caffiene helps you usually?

i think its my bad diet for sure, yesterday all i ate was water and pizza. i thought i was hydrated enough but guess not. the workout definately triggered it.

For me, migraines are very different from the regular headaches... Regular ones I can most often get rid of but migraine is a different story. Dark, quiet room, trying to sleep some of it off is my only advice. Oh! I once had a really good acupuncturist (sp?) around when it came on and she did wonders. Really took the edge of things. Fell asleep shortly after she was done and woke up some hours later feeling nothing but the slightest pain. Went away pretty quick after that.

I get the visual loss but no puking.

FUCK migraines

Sounds like your local pharma dealer hooked you up lol. Shitty start to the week no doubt.

I was prescribed Immatrex for migraines when I was going through treatment. It worked pretty well.

You and krunch are right about the weed not helping headaches. I would always load a bowl thinking, shit it helps everything else, but it never did. Made it worse if anything. Hell I thought I was weirdo, come to find out I'm in good company.

Hope you get better. I noticed that if I drink about 1/2 to 1gal of water a day. I always feel soooo much better overall.

You mean Promethazine? That's the shit that both Pimp C from UGK, and DJ Screw OD'ed on. Be careful with that stuff. Also known as sizzurp down south.

You are correct, BigCity. Unfortunately, standard medical training ATM encourages the doc to give 'em a pill.

My best advice for migraine: 1) treat as soon as you feel it coming on; 2) limit light & sound exposure; 3) take infused oil, tincture, or smoke ASAP; 4) have a nice STRONG cup of coffee, if your tummy can handle it; 5) relax in a nice HOT bath containing essential oils of peppermint, basil, marjoram, rosemary, & clary sage. If you cannot have a hot bath, put a few drops of each oil on a tissue & breathe deeply.

After the bath, get in bed with a soothing white noise generator going low volume (I like Shoshonee women's flute songs - no lyrics, just faint drum & flutes...) You might want to put on a potpourri pot with the following essential oils over a tea lite candle on your bedside.

Best recipe I've found is:

Basil - 3 drops
Lavender - 3 drops
Peppermint - 3 drops
Marjoram - 3 drops
Lime - 2 drops
Chamomile - 2 drops

If you want to blend an ounce of oil to have at the ready, try:

Basil - 7 drops
Marjoram 7 drops
Clary Sage - 16 drops
Rose Geranium - 12 drops
Lavender - 16 drops
Peppermint - 6 drops
Bergamot - 6 drops

Blend these together in 2 oz. of olive, grapeseed, or soybean oil. Can be used for the burner, baths, or massage.

AWESOME results, if you have someone to help you apply it.

Hope someone finds this helpful...

Haha I didn't mean it that way, bud. I meant like "wow, you aren't kidding. That is a lot of drugs! That must be really tough"

Trust me, man. I came here for migraines. I believe you if you're saying yours are worse than mine, and even if they weren't, I would 100% understand any drugs you'd need to take. Even pro athletes say that migraines are the worst things they have to go through... that's saying a lot.

I'm truly sorry if I misworded that, as I usually do. I'm not here to judge anyone. I find such a thing odd in maybe the most compassionate place I've ever seen on the internet.

But speaking of analgesics, does anyone know which of these strains I should start with?

I'd specifically like, out of this bunch, one that really resembles oxycodone. I want something relatively clear, that is uplifting (both sativa traits) but also has a good pain relief quality (indica trait obviously :)).

Even if I don't get an answer I'm so thankful. I just don't know where to start! Information overload :p
