ebay ebb and flow bucket setup, how do i DIY?

I saw this system on ebay, and i was wondering if A) it works, and B) how would i replicate something like this.

It looks incredibly simple, but every other multi bucket ebb and flow requires that insane controller bucket. This unit looks like it uses the first bucket as a water level control, and gravity fills the rest of the buckets.

on a side note, there is maybe $75 worth of materials, and they are asking 250 for the whole unit.

If the majority consensus says this is a decent setup, I will build it and make a DIY for the collection.

Rew,
The issue with that system is that you have to have the buckets raised above the res. Plus these systems are for growing larger plants (3 to 4 feet) So say you have a 1' tall res and 2 foot tall buckets and 3 foot tall plants. Then lights above that. Get where I'm going? Headroom becomes an issue. Plus a smaller flat type res like that wouldn't support as many buckets as the usual 55 gal res that the usual Multi-flow systems use.

Building a system like that would be a piece of cake.

PS It's not gravity fill...don't exactly know what you mean there since gravity goes the other direction. lol It's gravity drain and I guess the first bucket is the overflow.

If I was to build that, I would have a second drain on the other first bucket just as a failsafe. Also upgrade the size of the drain to 2 sizes bigger then the pump side (i.e. pump is using a 1/2" line, drain with a 1" line.) Reason being is your pump side is pressurized (probably 10 psi or less) and your drain is relying on gravity. But ya, that would work................
