dude did you not read BNW??? that whole book is filled with sadness! are you telling me that Bernard was happy???

all the characters were just brainwashed by society!

The general populous of the book was filled with content. People were told what they would do, more or less, and had no problem doing so. Most never felt sadness or discontent. The main characters, however, were the ones who were separated from the public, and felt the opposites.

Hapiness is just as useless as sadness..

The only emotion i cling to is the feeling of standing in awe..I like to see how things work! I like to see progress. I say this is not hapiness because for most people happy = love. The feeling i am talking about is totally outside of human interaction. It can only be between you and the material world. I think it is about 50% comfort and 50% fascination. The good thing about it..is that it's stable..

To say that for most people happiness = love is quite out there I'd say. You don't have to be in love to be happy. Even further, who's to say human interaction is required for happiness?

this woman here, thrives off human interaction, i'm very much a type 1 personality, very gregarious, and am pretty much "THEE PARTY" when I am entertaining. I pretty much live off being social, I feel really depressed when I don't get out, and see ppl or talk to ppl....

Good thing you brought up brainwashing. Brainwashing can only be done to people who are overly emotional. People who have a feeling of how things ''should'' be. And they never rationalize these feelings.. they are never objective.

Let's say someone inherits racism from his father. He is racist because his dad was and that's a way to keep his memory alive so to speak. This is a prime example how theories that have no scientific merit are imposed upon society.

The biggest example of all is ofcourse religion. That also plays a huge part in politics (American politics atleast) and directly affects our quality of life..

While I understand this, that doesn't mean for everyone human interaction is required (I'm aware that's not what you're saying). I get much pleasure out of simply going for a stroll, or drive, through scenic routes. At these times I feel happiness, yet I'm by myself.

And let's be clear, because I'm not quite sure my point is getting through.

All emotions, for me, hold the same value. I wouldn't necessarily rather be "happy" than "sad", or vice versa.

This is a very good example of the kind of Happy vs. Sad relation i'm am talking about. This is where all the destruction really stems from.

Nothing personal obviously :D...Just a point of view..

Sadness kills boredom, why do you think people get attached to dramas and soap operas? Why do we watch the news on tv and read newspapers while most of it is just bad news? It just fills time.

emotions are the relics of ancient defense mechanisms that are now obsolete in this relatively safe existence that we've built for ourselves

Soap operas are for idiots...We need the news to know where the money is. Depends on what news you are reading. Most ''journalism'' is garbage..
