Curing Emergency

So, I just harvested recently. Took'em down and trimmed them up real nice into smaller buds and took all the fan leaves and trim off and everything off actually except for the bud. They've been drying now for 5 days and the stems aren't quite snapping yet but some are starting too.

I was planning on putting them all in mason jars and sweating them out for the cure until they're just perfect, but...

Now, I have to leave for 4 days and I'm wondering what the best way to preserve these babies without degrading aroma or potency and taste is. From what I've been studying my drying room is a perfect environment for drying btw (70F and 50% RH and totally dark)

I'm new at this so I could really use some help...

Should I:

A) leave them to dry on the screens for 4 more days and then just rehydrate them when i get back by adding some bread or something moist along with the buds inside of an air tight container?

B) Put all the buds in an air tight container right before I leave (like a mason jar for example) and then put them in the fridge?

C) Other suggestions?

I really need your help here. I want to preserve the kick ass aroma, quality, taste and can't risk getting any mold but I really have to leave... :dunno: Please help...

brown paper bags 2/3rds full rolled tops; they'll be fine for weeks like that.... slower than a screen but not air tight so no mold issues; i've left mine in bags for months and they've been perfect

Agree with opt1c. don't put semi dry bud in fridge/jar or anything like that....you'll get mould.

I always use supermarket bags. They take a little longer(2 weeks maybe) but i like the slow cure and then i mason jar them for maybe two more weeks( letting moisture out every couple days). I have found this to help keep the flavour that you sometimes lose if dryed to fast

Ya but the problem is that we don't even use paper bags in our supermarkets anymore out here in super eco friendly Vancouver lol. I wonder what else I can use?

I have a feeling that the time you are forced to be away will actually allow a better cure. Slower is a better cure in my opinion, and when you return you will have nice month old cured buds.

opt1c could not have said it better, great response man. if you can not find paper bags, cardboard moving or bananna box is close second

Green Ziplock Produce baggies - they're made of a moisture/vapor permeable materiel. Tony Aroma turned me onto these (They're recommended on the Mandala website) and I love them - Slower than paper bags and no need to burp like with freezer bags/tupperware/jars.

Also, as for rehydrating over-dried buds (We've all been there...) try using a fan leaf instead of bread or orange peel. Same results, but no weird flavours.

I was in Van earlier this week, it was friggin humid - are you controlling your RH?

Once dried I would definitely store them in something made of paper as many have said to do.
I found out first hand just recently what semi dry weed will do in plastic, mold, and it is really not a good feeling. I will keep in paper from now on
I think you can always hydrate with something if needed
better safe than sorry..
and it will be all ready when you get ready for it
