Chainsaws are notoriously the most dangerous hand tool you can purchase without a license. In the US they cause over 40,000 injuries a year. But all that is set to change with the introduction of Kevin Inkster’s radical new Petrol Allsaw, a remarkably versatile tool which slices effortlessly through wood, bricks, cement and even dirt, but won’t slice your hand off.

The Petrol Allsaw is a chain saw and a disc cutter rolled into one, only better, safer and more versatile than both. Its revolutionary dual blade orbital cutting action combined with a high velocity hammering action means it can cut easily through bricks, wood or cement, but not so easily through human flesh.

In addition, the design of the blades means that there is no exposed cutting edge on the top of the blade, so there is virtually no risk to the user from “kick back” or accidentally falling on the blade.
tool which could match or outperform the chainsaw in efficiency and versatility.

Two things impelled Kevin down this path:

The first was a near miss with a chain saw. He slipped on a log while cutting wood and his hand went onto the blade. Luckily, he got away with a few scars that time, but it set him thinking about how to make a safer saw.

The second incident was watching foresters cutting trees with chain saws. They always avoided the lowest part of the trunk and roots because the dirt would clog the chainsaw. But from a woodworker’s point of view, these are often the best bits. So he had to develop a saw which could cut through dirt, gravel and wood with equal ease.

If ya can use a powered tool....this and a shovel may be ALL YOU NEED!
Watch the video...you could just carve ya hole outta the ground!

i use one of these

it doesn't have the little pick but it's got a serrated edge and it's just made of tough metal and wood. military issue from one of the former communist countries. It's tough and probably as old as I am...and i love it

Foldable shovel that fits into my mtb backpack.
I scout places with mountain bike and when I find one
I dig holes :D
When it's folded and stored in it's case it's roughly 20x20 cm in size.

This year I need to find foldable mattock to fight those rocks you see in a hole.

Folding army one with the pick on the one side sharpen it and its tiny. A bunch of people have said this but if you look around there are some that are much better quality then others. I have one from WW2 and its indestructible. :)

I just want everyone to know this: Plastic folding shovels are cool and they fold to smaller size. This makes them more portable. I used to own one but the plastic broke after i had to dig my car out of a ditch full of mud - knee high...at night...

yeah i think its a little overkill,http://www.fiskars.com/webapp/wcs/s...ategoryId=10274&productId=10556&page=products
im gonna stop posting links, the mods tend to bin these threads quick.but im just gonna sawsall it to around a foot ans gorrila glue the handle back on. and pick up the little camp shovel for the hell of it.

Sounds like a better idea hope that handle is not welded on.

On a side note have you ever used Technu for poison Ivy? It's the only non prescription that has ever worked for me. You just have to use it within an hour or so after exposure and it dries up all the oils. It has been a lifesaver for me since I found it a few years ago. Wow could not sound any more like a spammer but poison ivy is no fun.

Shovels are hard on your feet and don't work all that great in never worked soils especially rocky soils. Folding shovels are also helpless in many situations. They also bend, break, don't stay open and are generally not very effective for digging hole after hole.

The mini pick is my favorite tool. They can dig any soil. You swing them and they don't jar you as much as the folding shovels and don't eventually hurt the arch of your foot like a shovel will after a couple hundred holes.

Buy something like this and you won't regret it.

I'm in the search for one too. I need to find it before the season starts or else I'm going to break my shovel fighting those rocks.
