What's new

this is a pretty weird question....

my bubblegum plant smells like poop. literally, smells like raw sewage. is there something wrong here? it still looks mostly healthy but smells like absolute crap. some of the leaves are a bit droopy and curled now too. I remember reading a post awhile ago about something like this but I can't find it now.... anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance!

oh and in the interest of being thorough I should add that this plant is in a hempy bucket with lucas formula nutes. I smelled the perlite at the base of the stem to see if I had some serious root rot going on and it just smelled like normal medium would. sort of like dirt. I sniffed around pretty completely and the stink is definitely coming from the leaves

Welcome to the wonderful world of genetics! Seriously, I know it's tempting to attribute it to some cultivational method, but smells and tastes are completely mapped out by the genes. Methods only allow the plant to reach it's full 'raw sewage' potential. On the upside, some poop and sewage smells are remarkably similar to floral smells, and you may find the smell could be 'interpreted' in other ways once it's dried and cured.

Mr. Nice has a strain named Shit. It's a skunk plant I think. Poop smelling weed is not totally unheard of. Hell some weed smells like catpiss. Lots of body fluid smells in the cannabis world... Funny

GHS Trainwreck has several phenos that smell like literally feces or a baby diaper full of poops.
I know that sounds nasty but there's pheno's to be found out there of all different types of smells and tastes.

Hey -- just hope the smell doesn't transfer over to the taste, and you should have a great plant to work with there.

I suppose I should also mention that this is my third run with this strain and the last two definitely did NOT smell like poop. I can guarantee this isn't due to genetics :)

So does anybody have any ideas given that this is NOT genetic? I've grown this strain before and it's always smelled exactly like actual bubbleum. The poop smell just started in the last two days or so and I'm a tad worried

Once i had fish scrap tasting weed, Turns out the guy grew in uncomposted fish.. So i assume your guy is growing in uncomposted shit, maybe even human shit.. It happens.

Ive read on several posts about how their pant smells like shit. From the way they were talking it sounded like a good thing. Like the shit smelling pheno of a certain strain is something looked for... hehe. I dont think you should be worried though for as it seems to be a characteristic of quality genes. So I guess if it smells like shit it must be good? It kinda goes against some of what we have learned in life. Shit smell=something bad or unsanitary Weed doesnt seem to apply to this rule.

Oh cool, thanks

I'm honestly a little stunned here. I know I'm new to this forum, but is it generally standard practice to not read the thread and then just reiterate the same suff other people have said that clearly isnt correct? Read what I posted above man, this has already been adressed.

And no, nobody pooped in my grow room

...or maybe some people just felt like keeping the new guy's thread going.

Hey Cannoiseur, welcome to the forum! Are you the same Cannoiseur from CanCom? I got news for ya, pissy little tantrum shit like this doesn't go over real well here. Do yourself a favor and go with the flow for a while until you get to know who's who and what's what. Crap like this is just going to make people want to tear you a new one, and that's allowed here. When it comes to growing, you're playing with the big boys now, so ya need to grow up.

Lol I've been playing with the big boys for awhile now, friend. Hence why I'm so surprised by all the identical answers even after it's been ruled out as a possibility. I'm sorry that came across as pissy but I sort of expected the "big boys" to be able to come up with more than one answer to a problem that's obviously complex.
Again, apologies for sounding rude but i thought that I had already figured out that the flow around here was to try and grow the best cannabis possible. I'm sorry if I was mistaken

What I am surprised about is the FACT that people are telling you an answer that for what ever reason doesn't fit you concept of what is accurate, so you proceed to continue asking the same question....and then are surprised when you receive the same answers....lol.

Perhaps, you didn't have the strain dialed in as well last time, not getting the full range of terepenes from the plant. Perhaps this new poop smell, is in fact a sign that the strain is performing better..

If you didn't change nutrients and it is the same soil mix...and no on took a dump in your room...what the hell do you expect people to tell you??? You are telling us that it is some mystical happening without reason...well, cool...you have provided your own answer!

Perhaps, the "big boys" don't have the answers you seek because their rooms are dialed in and they don't have to deal with fluctuations from the same clone...therefore, not being able to provide you the answer does not indicate they are inadequate growers, but rather, suggests they are a tad more competent...

The "fact" that YOU have ruled out their suggestions as plausible, simply says that you have already made up in your mind what is wrong, and are just looking for someone to tell you what you want to hear...???

Now I am going to go out on a limb here....I've been doing this for years...regardless how you feel about the impression you are making, I will tell you...you need to humble yourself before you come to ICmag. There is ALWAYS someone better than yourself. If you treat everyone with that concept, you'll learn soooooo much more...and you'll be welcomed here a bit more...

Anyway...hope you figure this shit out...

Frank-
Thank you for your response. you are clearly an intelligent person and I thank you for laying out both sides of the issue so compassionately. I do understand where you're coming from and I agree that maybe it's a simple issue of the plant expressing it's own phenotypes differently this round. However, last round this plant was the epitome of healthy, and this round it's consistently starting to look worse. this is why I'm worried by the poop smell instead of being enthralled. if it was sickly and sad last time and looked great this round then I wouldn't be concerned, but let me show you some before and after pictures to see what you think.

here's last round where it smelled delicious;

something is clearly wrong and it's certainly not me getting better at growing, right?

I sincerely apoloigize for sounding so cranky and I do recognize that there are some spectacularly talented growers on this site (I registered for a reason :) ) but I'm worried about my baby and that makes me a little anxious.

I hope everyone understands where I'm coming from here.
