large scale curing

hi all

curing with mason jars is great. but the thing is i can only fit in about an ounce into each jar. how does one go about curing, let say 4 pounds, as an example? it would take like 6 boxes of jars to do that and it'd be a major pain in the ass to burp each individual jar. how about in a metal trash can? does it have to be airtight? i dont want to cure in a plastic container as i hear the bud can take on a gross plastic taste.

I don't think that Tupperware or similar foodgrade plastic containers give any smell. Don't know for sure thou. I have to try it out.

I've been thinking about the same thing and don't wan't to buy expensive glass jars for this.

hello,

this year I used a tupper (foodgrade) for store and cure a part of the harvest and I didn´t notice any plastic flavour.

I´ll try again next harvest, the tuppers are very easy to handle and storage, more than the glass jars.

in any case more scientific coments will be appreciated, i can only speak about my experience..

regards,
susantidad.

1gal glass jars from Walmart can work well. Each can hold ~.5lb, depending, and they're about as airtight as mason jars. They also have larger, ~2gal, glass cookie jars. Those are not airtight, but can come in handy during the first week or two of the curing process.

big pickle jars!

I think they go as large as 3 gallons
also 5 gallon plastic buckets that are used for brewing beer might be worth trying
good luck with the curing

I use 18 gallon rubbermaid tubs, after you wash them a couple times and use them for curing a couple times they just smell like weed, works great.

after the rubbermaid "cure" (i say that because i store it in it as im trimming it, so it never stays in there long). i put them in turkey bags. if u seal the bags, and open them up like normal cure, they are great.
