dont skimp on the perlite in the cold weather if it has also effected your dirt grow, cold wet coco is terrible for growing, if u cant bring the temp up go with 50 percent perlite otherwise youll have wet mush that u wont be able to water frequently since its always wet and your plants wont grow as fast as they could, very common sense stuff, sorry if i insulted your intelligence, dont mean to.

i water every 2 days and the water has time to get absorbed by the plant, and the coco is dry enough to water.

should make sure i dont mean the coco actuyally gets dry, just much less humid than rigth after watering.

this is something good, it promotes root growth, since during those few hours of less water the plants root systems get very active, looking for extra humidity. this really gives for the most explosive growth in coco, and is also the method recomended by for example Canna.

I cant figure out how this is happening but my humididty is increasing dramatically during the dark period with the same ventilation running as during lights on. With lights on its around 35-40% but this morning when i checked on the ladies a few minutes after lights on the humidity was up to almost 60% whats up with that? i thought plnats transpired most during lights on. Im using a 4 inch inline fan for ventilation pulling through a cooltube, i leave the fan on 24/7.

Hello I need the help of the pros once again! I bought an ec pen since I've started new plants in coco so I've bought myself a ph pen aswell (no problems with that).
My ec pen has a small '100' in the top left of the screen, the main part of the display is taken by 2 digits.
The ec metre did come with simple instructions with directions on how to interpreting the readings???
My question is: does the 100 mean that I should multiply the 2 numbers that apear by 100???
I made a nutrient solution according to the label & it gave me a reading of 35, does that mean that the ec of that mix is 3500????? because I know that that is about double what it should be right? Since I grow in coco I read that I should keep it under 1200

Am I missing something obvious here? I tried a week diluted mix of the worm juice from my worm farm that I usualy mix stronger for my normal vegies & that still gave me about 20 = 2000

Had the same problem except I had a 6 inch inline fan for ventialtion running 24/7. Humidity usually raises when temperatures lower. To combat this you can either try to put a small heater in their, or you can get a dehumidifier(witch is what I did). If your in veg I wouldn't worry about 60% but If you a few weeks into flower then I would start dehumidifying to keep things safe and around 50% or lower.

It does sound like you are suppose to multiply by 100, but honestly the instructions are the truth. I do know that a lot of mixing rates on nutrient bottles are strong and usually need to be lessened.

Okay everyone now here is my question about Canna Coco drainage.

I have been doing research and I have the basic knowledge about how to treat coco with nutrients and such, but the only thing I am wavering in is whether I should mix perlite into my Canna coco or not. Temps are cooler at the moment and I don't want things to stay too wet for too long. I recently ran roots organics soil(mix of coco, peat, perlite, and some other goodies) and It ended up staying to wet. I have heard of tons of people growing in straight Canna coir, but I have also heard tons of people say that its a must to amend at least 30% perlite into your coir.

I am going to just be doing basic drain to waste(top feed, hand water, ect) with Canna Coco. I don't want to add 30% perlite and find out that I have to water more then once a day. I only want to water maybe one every 2 days and once a day when they get established. So is it advisable to mix 30% perlite in Canna coco or should I just run it 100% Canna?

imo pure coco is the best no perlite no nothing,just coco, and you will be able to water every day or every 2 days just adjust the amount you give and you will be fine,but remember to drain about 10 to 20% out of every pot. stay lucky

I love CoCo Fiber, it even feels fresh.. anyways i find it extremely easy to control my nutrient levels with such a light airy soil. I usually put 50% coco fiber and 50% perlite and mix it all together.. anyone got any input or some extra tricks to the coco game? I liked the idea of putting hydroton coco rock pebbles on the top to keep the soil from drying out so fast.. anyways i have had some real good success with Coco fiber but have recently switched over to the other side.. the hydro realm..

not sure if this is what you're asking but.... ph the nutrient mix (5.6-5.8), then feed equal amounts to each plant. most folks will say feed til the water drains through (drain-to-waste). the percent of drain varies from grower to grower. some like to get 10-20% runoff, some like just enough to drain through. have fun!

Thanks to OGBonecarver, i Just tried a round of coco coir, and went for terpenoid, flavanoid production (potency)in my sd's! And girl do they love the coco coir, the coco fiber is what the roots and plants love, i wonder if there are any pure sativa landrace strains from the seashores of Sri Lanka (where a good majority of coco fiber from coconut tree husks comes from in the industrial world). I am happy with first time coco use, i just fed low PPM of AN nutes, and worked out awesome! Anyone out there ever try mixing Coco coir with Happy Frog Soil, or Sunshine mix #4 or #5? Any noteworthy results on potency? i've seen some guy jrosen on here who claims who grows str8 perlite, whats up with that? sorry about the stream of consciousness writing, i just had 3 minutes on the computer here at the public library.

It is funny when you first start growing all the things you learn or experience with fellow friends that are also growing. We pretty much all started with potting mix and HATED IT! it took so long to finish the crop. Then you get interested in the hydro and I watched friends go through that and they complained that they spent alot of money on the nutrients. The girls were like junkies when it came to feeding. Then I hooked up with a lifetime friend and he had it down... that is when I met the Coco mix. I started my crop at the same time as a friend of mine doing hydro and we are equal in growth. In my experience Coco mix (i also use perilite to keep oxygen in the mix) is as good as hydro if not better, the bugs dont really like it as well it is nothing like soil. I prefer using flora nova 3 part, its very concentrate so depending on my strain I will feed, water ( every other time). Or just cut it down just a little bit. I absolutely love the coco fiber it is very absorbing and the girls grow like crazy. My friends babysat for a couple of weeks for me and had not been familiar with it (they do hydro) once they had seen the outcome of it they will not be doing hydro the next time around. I have been doing this for awhile now So I have it down. LONG STORY SHORT, ITS MY PREFERENCE AND I WOULD NOT CHANGE IT FOR ANYTHING. Everyone has there preference its just up to you to decide what works for you and how much time you want to put into your girls...

Just switched to coco, seems to be a vast improvement, exodus cheese has gone mad in it. Not long to see how it tastes. Using canna, earth juice and b-cuzz stimulator. Fingers crossed!

Hey growers and tokers,

I am looking to drop some seeds in a coco mix that I made, it's a bag seed pilot project that is going straight to 12/12 outdoors in a 1.5 Gal pot.

65% coco,
15% compost
10% soil
5% Horse manure+woodchips composted down
5% Full coconut compost
Plus a lil bit o' Bone meal, Coffee grounds, Epsom salts (1tsp) per gallon, some charcoal and maybe some vermiculite/perlite.

On the one hand it has to be able to happily survive at least a day outdoors without any attention, but on the other hand I don't want the coco to be too saturated with the soil, displacing the air and the whole reason for using coco in the first place. In your experience, how light is that mix? Is it in need of any perlite?

Also, I only want to add compost as a top dressing through flower as the main fertilization, maybe some fish & seaweed emulsion 2-3-1. Do ya think that would work alright or am I setting myself up for crappy yields?

i would treat this as a soil grow, im sure in the soilgrowing forum you will find more info about preparing a good organic mix with coco as a soil amendment.

but it sounds like its going to be a nice soft soil mix. should alove for quick root growth

so I just switched to coco after doing a lot of reading about it here.

would it be safe to say that consistency of ec and ph are the most critical aspects of coco growing? followed by watering frequency?

with clones, is 1.0 ec a good starting point? i want to veg for 2 weeks max and get them flowering asap, but want a good harvest.
I plan on slowly working my way up to 1.8ec by week 3 or 4 (not sure when is better) of flower. ive started with a ph of 5.8 and plan on raising that to 6 by week 3 or 4 as well for better P flow.

sound like a good plan? my coco was flushed twice no 3 times with hot water then soaked in 5.6ph 1/4 strength nutes. bc nutrients recipe for success. which i plan on using till i run out. (then off to maxibloom!)
