Interesting thread. I had always considered Serious' gear to be top-notch, apparently there are differing opinions. Their Kali has always been a personal favorite, and I've been thinking about their Bubblegum. And of course, there is something new on the horizon from them too that they are working on now.

It's really no surprise Rezdog thinks they need new life, but then again they've been around a lot longer than most seedbanks so I'm guessing they know what they're doing or at least have a good idea, and to be honest I don't really think new genetics are where it's at, and I know i'm not alone, however I'm most excited about growing out my new Rezdog gear, so go figure!
Anyways, if anyone else would like to contribute some recent AK-47 grow/smoke info, from SEED, I'd love to hear more!

Serious seeds has recently announced they will be making fem seeds. I had a conversation with Simon on this subject and he told me that his seed business was declining and had no choice but to make Fem seeds. He has also made a new strain called Serious 6.

For the first time I liked one of rez dogs post. With sub cool being an idiot....well I wouldn't go as far as an idiot, but yes he does love photo shop and chucks alot of pollen around and boast his gear at far superior. I have grown AK back in the day when it was the original. I have also grew it from seeds bought a year ago, and currently growing it out now (I should have some pics in the next few weeks). In the garden performance it has always been a very nice plant and a joy to grow. If there is one plant that I would look for to get the job done it would be AK. Simon has been around for a while and I like his ethics of the seed business. He only puts out impressive stuff that at a an affordable price. He is only now joining every other breeder in making fem seeds. After all what the customers want make the market. Every breeder does bring something interesting to the table. Diversity is nice. Shit happens (back in 99)...I am sure there are many that want the old AK, but the market screams INDICA sometimes. After all yield is a wonderful thing....if someone can put out a plant that yield well and is ranked among the heavy hitters. I am sold. Even chronic has a place. Just not for my garden. As for sub cool just plain out throwing slander at a real breeder..I just laugh.
it my be that serious seed are coming out with something new and other so called breeders are trying to talk shit because when Simon makes very few strains and does it so well. and has had very few complaints from the smoking community. it might just Russell some feathers. i have every one of serious seed strains except white Russian. there kalimist is great and if your looking for power there ak 47 has never let me down. and i just got over growing there bubblegum that i think was better then bogs bubble and boggelgum . and i have grown them both. i am not knocking bog i just might have gotten

Yah they've been talking about it for some time, as fem seeds have definitely taken on for some. I'm really only interested in the recent AK-47 work, but check out their site and read about the new stuff, it's been on there for a while and has SOME pretty good info. Plus Claude was talking about it a little while back, it'll be interesting to see how what it's like

I agree with you also about liking Serious Seeds in terms of longevity and how reputation. I knew them by name and their strains before I'd ever seen this or any other pot based website.

To add (completely unfounded,gossipy) fuel to the fire....There's also a rumor in the air that Serious' Seeds and Reservoir may,at some point in the future,work together on something.
Reservoir could,in fact,currently be developing something special for Serious' on 'spec....one never knows....and I certainly didn't say anything.

wow sounds like ak sux....i seriously hope all you haters are wrong. I just took my ak clones yesterday and hopefully they will live up to the hype. so far the mothers are super stinky and they only have preflowers on them. Not sure about subcool, ive seen some great jacks cleaner and flav, but ive also seen a bunch of his other stuff that was SUB par.

I grew out the AK and Russian from Serious in '99 and was impressed. AK was touted, by some at the time, as being the new and improved NL touchstone, even though the AK did vary quite a bit between the Sat and Ind phenos. I had always heard that the Sat phenos were superior and that's what I preferred. The sat phenos with indica bud structure were killer imo. Made many F2's.
There was some sort of redesign, in 2000 I think, which was an attempt to make the AK more uniform, but by doing so made it more indica. I was upset at the time for not waiting on the redesign before growing out since genetic stability was important to me.
I guess what I'm saying is "yes", there most definitely are better genetics today than 10 years ago, but I think the AK quality may have slipped for the sake of uniformity with the (roundabout) 2k redesign. But then again, I'm no expert

I'm Growing Serious Seeds from seed stock I bought in November. I must say I am not impressed with the 2 females I ended up with out of 6 beans popped.... I grew out this strain before from seed stock back in 01 and never did I get these stretchy ass monsters I am currently growing now....I'm a little over 3 weeks into flowering and they are just now starting to see bud formation....Sure signs they are going to be in the box for a little while.
I will post pics tomorrow at lights on....
The difference is literally night and day in this strain over the years. They shouldn't even keep the name ak-47 on this seed pack.
Luckily I have some sensi stars and bubble gums in the veg box because I am disappointed at the performance so far.

Hmm, I wouldn't think that modern genetics are any better, or that AK47 is somehow not-modern just cause its a legend, you know? THat was sort of the root of my question, is whether the strain changed or some stigma towards it in so far as people assume newer is better . . . you know?

I started a pack back in the fall. All 11 seeds sprouted, and I ended up with 7 females. I ran the 7 in soil in the side lighting in my room to do a hermie, structure, and flower time check. They were not in an ideal location but the purpose was to familiarize myself with the phenos before filling up my RDWC system with them.
I got a nice selection of phenos, I ended up keeping 4 phenos for a heads up in the RDWC for mother selection. I actually needed some more clones, so a 5th pheno was also ran alongside the 4 I wanted in the RDWC system.
Right now its day 33 flower, and all is well. She is a light feeder like I read in old threads, 1.5-1.6 EC in full bloom. She is medium stature (wish I would have reread that thread before I loli popped them, expecting more stretch) with just OK stretch.
A majority of the phenos smell like the strawberry yogurt clusters in special K cereal imo, but there are some variances. I did have a couple favorite phenos from the first run, and so far one is outperforming the others on bag appeal, potentcy, veg rate, and stretch!
I have one shot of the short phenos bud here for you, and also some shots of the 5 phenos rocking in the RDWC. Watch my thread, I will be updating soon.

Day 49 flower pheno 3, same plant:
Here is the current run on day 22 flower, 5 phenos overall, all in sections, can really see the short pheno in the first picture:
