Question About Making Seeds

My last grow I attempted to make just a few seeds, but ended up with a LOT of seeds. I know I was careless and what I did wrong, but even so I still don't see how I ended up with so many seeds.

I made my attempt at controlled pollination when the females were about 10 days into flowering. They just had the beginnings of buds, not even at the "Q-Tips" stage yet. What I don't understand is, even if I was totally careless and pollinated every bud on the plants at the time, those buds were only a small portion of the total buds the plant ended up with. So if I only pollinated say 1 or 2 percent of the buds (all there were at the time), how did I end up with around 50 percent of the buds having seeds? Any ideas how this could happen?

pollen must have got sucked into your air system, recirculated... multiple unplanned pregnancies ensued.... lol

The one remaining male was gone after my pollination attempt, so no new pollen was being produced. The other males were gone before the females even started showing white hairs.

And I thought pollen had a very short life span, just a few days if not stored properly. So even if there was pollen floating around, surely it could not have been viable for long enough to fertilize all those buds. Right?

Tony the way I limit pollination....

I only pollinate the lowest buds.....

I do the work just before lights out..... turn off all fans....

hit the bottom buds.....

the next day at lights on.....

spray everything down with water...... this will evaporate in a few hours....

at which time the fans can be turned back on......

The water spray will germinate(kill) unused pollen......

If you forgot to turn off fans, it goes everywhere! It is tenacious if you don't want beans, lives forever.

To prevent more beans, wash down entire grow, it could hit the next cycle with beans too.

Individual pollen spores are extraordinarily tiny and light. While you may carefully paint individual flowers, you're doing so with hundreds of times more pollen than you "need". This means loose pollen and the slightest draft will pick it up and move it somewhere else in the grow.

Also, seeded flowers should be towards the back of the grow and left untouched. Placed up front, hands moving in and out of the garden will pick up pollen and distribute it throughout the grow.

I personally prefer to do an open pollination..but most people can;t and don't want to waste there whole crop on a seeded crop...BUT I FEEL it's the best for breeding purposes..let nature run its course..I will be doing a seed crop this summer in my dads greenhouse...
I am crossing OG Kush with Blockhead and maybe Chemdog

Sounds killer.

OP, no hermies anywhere? did you put a ziploc over the pollinated bud afterwards?

thanks man...no i do not i just cull the male plants that i wanted to use after they have made everything all yellow with their pollen and in 6-8 weeks voila( tiger striped nice beans popping out of the bud sites)
only problem with my method is you have to choose what male you want to use cause you don't want 2 diff males(of diff parentage) pollinating your buds...you want to keep the males all the same breed..SO I have decided to use Krytonite's OGK Abusive x SFV in my upcoming summer seed making run
