If I only knew

If I only knew

I had not grown indoors for about 3 years, due to not being happy with the yield from using 400 watt HID/HPS and organic soil. Last year I grew a nice 2 ft phallus (no side braches) outdoors (same soil) , but battled the bugs. Time to revisit indoors. I read through a few mj magazines; an ad for UFO 90 LED ad caught my eye: it looked so cool :dance013:

I only investigated grow journals after buying the UFO. To make the grow more difficult, I decided to use a method that I was unfamiliar with DWC: drip/bubble.

I could not control the drip manifold and lost almost 2 full start ups due to root rot from the rockwool staying too wet.

Pissed away $ 120 in seeds, but 2 plants survived; one never fully recovered, 7" tall at harvest. Not to be denied ( ya gotta love my determination :dunno: ). On the fly, I switched to fog/bubble then fog/bubble/spraybar (tired 5 different heads): it was not until I discovered and incorporated high pressure that the plant took off, but it was in the last 7 days of harvest. HA! The plant immediately took to True Aeroponic Growing (TAG), and buds kept getting bigger and bigger by the day!

I had to pull it due to house guest, and I was growing in that shower stall.

So, why am I telling you this?

A buddy told me harvested 1.2#s with CFLs in a 2 x 2 x 5 closet, using F/D! So this grow I decided to compare CFLs to my UFO 90 using TAG.

Hope you will come check out my journal True Aeroponic Grow using AVM UFO. Hint at 45 days veg, it's close, but both lights are excellent at vegging. Goin 12/12 tonite, hope you'll pull up a chair to see how both bud out.

CFL's rock!

If you had told me 3 or 4 years ago that you could grow good weed using normal bulbs you use to light your living room I wouldn't have believed it. I still can hardly believe it now lol! Isn't modern technology wonderful... :watchplant:

I grow wih CFLs....and combined with cropping and LST

the results are great for personal smoke production. I am smoking the strains I WANT and getting more than enough to share.

2 X 150W CFLs...popping the beans on 2 X Cheese (FEM) and 2 X Himalayan Gold FEM from Greenhouse right now. Cross Atlantic similar grow happening with my best friend back in the states.

It seems like a great way to smoke the best strains and remain off the radar. Some of the setups I see in here are just brilliant.

Do any of you keep track of your gram per watt? I would be interested to hear. I've only flowered once under cfl and I switched the wattage around like crazy but I estimate I got somewhere around .25gpw. I think I read Thunderkel gets .6 in a perpetual system. You?

Here are some new photo's my plants. They have 2 to 3 weeks to go yet. The next grow will be bigger & better. And all are growing under 2 CFL's. They have a very skunky smell. I hope every one else like them. They are still flowering strong, I'm very tempted to let them go for it as long as I can. They're in my PC Case so I guess when it is filled I'll have to harvest.:smokeit: While I showing photo's here are some new pics of my pc grow case. The last 2 photo's are of the front intake with Srubninja's light trap design on the fan and then the carbon filter on the exhaust fan. I'm also experimenting with old CD and DVD's as reflectors since they reflect a full color spectrum but are high in the red, blue, & purple. The light's are 2 23w/100w CFL's. It's basic but works good, it's my first one, it has works good enough that I'll make some improvments and keep using it and I'm going to make a bigger better one soon.

That's great BC Chronic, good job. I'm hopping my next grow comes out with buds as as fat as your buds did.

Hey Ghostwolf, it looks cool as hell, lol. Maybe you could dangle them so they catch the breeze a bit and turn into light movers. Well, reflector movers. :)

Thanks for the reply, crunch

Thank you Scrubninja. It's only the beginning I had to start somewhere. the next grow will yield more and I'll make some changes upgrading the case. I've already moved the intake fan to the back so I have 2 exhaust fans & the intake is passive now. And I'm going to make a bigger, better case as well not nearly so basic, bigger fans more lights. Their really isn't enough room to hang the disks to move around, I know their funny looking and probably won't use the disks next time that was just an experiment because I was using only 2 CFL's and trying to improve the distribution and spectrum. :smokey: :smokeit:

Have been getting from .2gpw up to .6gpw would love to break 1gpw and above. Not spectacular I know but once I've got a strain I like dialed in(I have been running alot of bagseed) 1gpw is attainable for sure.

Peace.

Nice one ghosty. One suggestion for you to try one day - red cellophane over your usual reflective surface. I can't find the thread I was reading originally, but I found some almost related words:

Quartz Halagon by itself is NOT good, but if you line all your walls with RED cellophane/selofan, RED, no other color, then you can grow good plants as if it were almost the same power in HPS or MH. The Red cellophane reflection places the light spectrum into what is needed for decent photosynthesis and cannabinoid activation.

Big ups b00m. If anyone can do it, you can ;)

3 of four beans have poked their heads above the soil

3 of four beans have poked their heads above the soil

250W CFL lamp ordered.

End result: 1 X 250W Red, 2 X 125 W Red for floweing

1 X 125 W Blue for Veg.

Beans: 2 X Cheese Fem + 2 X Himalayan Gold Fem (both from Greenhouse)

YAHOO!!! Let the ceremony begin...

Thinking about that red cellophane discussion....hmmmm....cheap and easy...I like it. Wonder if putting it right over the existing mylar is a good idea.

I don't know what I harvested on my last grow....purposely didn't weigh it at all....just got enough to smoke for about 3 months. Any attempt at measurement would have cause the auto-trigger mechanism of my bull-shit circuit to engage.

It was my first grow in over 25 years....and my success criteria was simple: high quality smokeable herb...any amount, learn shit, enjoy the process.

68w. CFL at Home Depot

I use them they r 68w. eqv. 2 300w. but dont go by eqv. they r simply 68w. x 4 = 272w. which will do just fine 4 a small scale grow
