There is a universal principal that is seen applied to ordered economic societies again and again that bears on this matter.

It takes money to make money.

I can't tell you how many jobs I didn't get as a youngster because I didn't have the degree. All of these people said the same thing. If you had the degree we would snap you up in a heartbeat, but our hands are tied. This is a degreed position.

The fact of the matter is that the degree gives you access to a level of jobs that people who don't have a degree will never be able to obtain; they don't know the secret handshake and have not been initiated into the game. College is the last vestige of our class society where we use access to provide the means of future (and permanent) discrimination because these people paid the price to be able to be part of the club.

Every spare nickle Mrs. MPD and I ever earned went towards the education of our kids. They have degrees and they have great jobs. One is a lawyer, while another is a stockbroker. Another one works for EDS and another is an insurance executive. Yes, they all had school loans, but they did just fine and so will you.

America is the only place in the world where you can achieve the dream and then be allowed to be pissed off at a system that allows you to live a more privileged life than 2/3rds of the remaining world population and that isn't good enough.

Yep be thankful that you were able to finish college. Some people cannot even think about going to college, let alone borrowing tons of money to help pay for it. I was also told the same thing as you...my parents wanted me to finish school because that was their "American Dream;" they were immigrants who wanted to see their children have a better chance at success than they did. You can always ask your parents to help you out, in the beginning, with your student loans until you get a well-paying job (or decent paying job) to start paying them on your own.

As for marijuana, I was never told anything bad about it. In fact my parents never talked about it. But, I was surprised when my mom saw the news talking about medical marijuana and she said, "Yeah, I thought pot was supposed to help with pain..?" :D

1. Canabis is a dangerous drug only if you ABUSE it.
2. College isnt for everyone.

With all that said, i think you should thanks your parents ( not because they lied to you ) but because they want the best for you?

Dont live your life with regrets but look at them as life lessons.

A wise man told me once " No one can go back and create a brand new start, but anyone can start from now and have a brand new ending "

Good luck with your life and wherever it may takes you.

Cheers,

Red.

What "System"? They don't know of this system you speak of, and no, they do not accept everything that the government does. It is purely educational to them, and of course getting a better job would be part of that. Like redspaghetti says, they wanted the best for me. I can do what I like after college, and I don't have to accept any System if I don't want to.

To quote The Dude: So, that's just like, your opinion man.

I can't even land an interview. Doing anything. I'm over-qualified for the general labor type stuff because of my degree, and under-qualified for anything professional. Those manager trainee programs that were everywhere for college grads even 5 years ago are gone. Vanished.

No offense, but this sounds like the same rhetoric I hear every day from lazy college grads who expected a six figure job right out of school. Even with today's economy you can still find a good job if you look hard enough. Period, the end.

Hell, I just signed a $900 graphic design proposal for maybe 6 hours of work total, and I didn't even go to school for it - I just freelance on the side and work another full time job, and I'm about to open a business in west virginia as well. Hard work will reap benefits that you'll never see if you stay at home surfing for jobs and complaining about what you don't find on a pot forum.

peace

I saw some statistics a little while back that showed the salary gap closing between collage educated people and non-collage educated people.

All the while I was growing up all my school mates from a early age were told that they were going to college after high school. It was drummed into their heads from early on. As the years went on, and the time was nearing, they would start talking about what they'd like to be.
My eyes would just roll when they'd say stuff like "Marine biologist", or some other fantasy job. The funny thing is that many actually went after degrees for stuff like that, and then they'd come back from college and start working some job that didn't require a degree. I think college is a great thing if its your bag, but I think its important to set your sights on realistic, practical careers.

which dream are you talking about? the dream that includes a shitty job after college that you could have got without the degree? or being up to your ears in debt just for a "piece of paper"?

the only way id go to college is if the company that im CURRENTLY employed at told me they'd give me a raise if i obtained said degree.

all i see in america is a more sophisticated form of slavery, nothing else.
watch "the fall of the republic" then you'll see the massive shit-twister thats headed our way...

in this stale economy theres going to be ALOT of college grads without jobs and LOTS of debt to pay off...

america is rigged, and fucked, its just one big transfer of wealth...

youre better off playing the system, like growing/selling weed, at least thats unregulated and tax-free.

just take the general labor job and start saving up for grow equipment..
talk about spending money to make money...
with the low overhead growing pot is THE BEST way to make skrilla in post-bush economy.
