Butane honey oil for dummies

I keep going into the same dish for up to 6 cans of butane,
i find that more than 6 gets hard work...

getting the hard candy like oil, is all in the purging of the butane,
you can get from just trim no problem...
a longer purge to make sure you got rid of all the butane, 1 hour plus
not too hot heat as you can loose some flavour's (depending on strain)..
then leave over night (can be done in an hour or so) or somewhere cool n dark..
then fingers crossed you got some hard candy to scrape after a lil reheat..

I just did another batch with some real nice Jack Herer.. not buddered up yet though.

Nice I havn't got my hands on any herer in a while but my last experience with the strain was quite a good one. Consistent 22-24% returns of decent sativa oil always makes for a great few days

You can really make some beautifully bright golden oils using Herer as your starting material. Are you buddering those intentionally Hulkbogan ?

I am up to my neck in the Jack lately. Depending on the strain my oil either turns out rock hard or looks like the stuff in your pics sometimes yellow and creamy even. I hate smoking really sticky oil so if it won't come out hard I put it on a hot plate and whip some air into it with a pin. Once it cools down it turns into a waxy consistency like crack. It just easier to smoke you can crumble it into a bowl with your fingers and not have to worry about using gadgets. I just feel like a crackhead smoking this stuff.

Yea its definetely easier to work with the waxy consistency when using the BHO in a standard pipe/bong. But it sounds like its about time you got yourself a dedicated oil pipe

What do you think this stuffs worth? I figure like 60 bucks a gram or more because it takes me just over a half oz of good bud to get 2- 2.5 grams? That's not factoring in the butane and time it takes to make either.

Using the right method of extraction you should be able to get more then that from a half ounce. I usually expect a ~18% return, but its not uncommon to see returns over 20%. 40-60 a gram seems fair imo.

but it often dont matter how you run it as well, some stuff only yields about 4 grams an oz no matter what...

Newb here. I have lots of frozen trim and popcorn buds, how do i shrink all that stuff into something workable? Throw it in the coffee grinder? I want to try and make some BHO but I cant figure out how to scale down all this trim into a manageable amount of material.

So I went to a local head shop where I know the owner and blower. He has made some custom stuff for me in the past and I asked him about extraction tubes made of glass. He knew exactly what I was after.


I am now going to be a getting a 2' long extraction tube (he says 2'+ is ideal to avoid over frosting the glass), complete with end cap with a butane nozzle port and tripod like legs with a glass stand and a custom bowl ala the ones on pg 46 (thanks D-Note for inspiration) for drip. He tapers the bottom to a single hole which I will then be putting a nice screen in as well.

Amber is when you don't mess with it and let it dry on the plate, scrape then mold.


That milky crap is when you beat it like scrambled eggs when it's evaporating or when it's still kinda liquidy. It's trapped air bubbles like mousse. I don't like that consistency, when you melt it it goes back to amber oil form until it smokes. It's usually a pastey creamy color and consistency if whipped just like that pic you are talking about..

I think hard candy amber is more manageable and I prefer it to the "whipped" consistency...........that's all

It runs around that price in dispensaries because it is concentrated. I've seen it called juice, amber juice, fairy dust, pixie dust, all kinds of dumb names, it could be the fear that it is "grey area" to sell in some counties. It is oil, not hash, it costs more because it is much more potent than MOST hash. When I first started smoking BHO I used to get a headrush and a retarded feeling immediately, this is strong meds!

I have figured out a way to make excellent FMB tho that melts the same and tastes almost as good as BHO. Very clean too since made in water, but still no match in the flavor department, even though it is close in strength.

The problem I have with BHO is that it sticks to my throat and lungs a bit much,
and I get a bit of a cough in a few days if I SMOKE it too often. I need breaks in between smoking it.
I need the TI plate and that "horn looking" attachment for my piece to start vaping it..maybe that will be even better.
