please wake up and shake the fucking liberals because we are going to HELL . invades blogs and counter weight the neo-con who are in legion but they are loosing ground since the afghani/Copenhagen/prorogation shit

we will win this war from the Internet not by gathering people on Parliament hill in a smoke in crap full of minors and lost peoples that gave pure gold to the anti pot media when they want to stereotype mj in a negative way , my 2 c

go and fight on the net like the facebook page group about prorogation , in fact we have to do a total war on everything on the harper administration .

Everyone and their fucking mother has to email Ignatieff about this. The liberals are going to act in, what they perceive as, their best interest. We have the responsibility to make killing this bill in their best interest.

We knew he was going to do this. Of course he'll do so after he stacks the senate to his benefit.

When the thread starts going to analogies of the Third Reich and Hitler, it's time to lock it down.

Harper is a social conservative. Most of us here don't like the man -- at all. But for all that, he's not Adolf Hitler. He's not even George W. Bush. Let's get a wee bit of a grip on all of this.

Most especially so I don't have to post defending Stephen Harper. It makes me feel...ashamed and dirty. :hide:

yeah I read that... The article was only a day old when I posted it; that's why I did.

Drug War Chronicle is a good source of compiled drug war info, and for a different perspective on drug war news, but it can lag behind regular news feeds. eh

interesting thread. never learned so much about canadian law (rhymes with bendable straw)

I think the U.S. has been ahead of Canada in terms of cannabis law reform for a long time. This is due to individual states setting their own laws regarding decrim and medical marijuana, even though Fed laws are able to supersede state laws.

Canada's drug laws are Federal only so a change affects the whole country. It's all or nothing. If provinces were allowed to have their own cannabis policies then we would have more opportunities for incremental advances like those occurring in the US. (B.C. and Quebec would likely be the first provinces to change provincial cannabis laws if they could)

To make matters worse, Canada's current Conservative govt is dragging us back to the stone age, in terms of cannabis policy, even though 53% of Cdns support legalization and 2/3rds support decrim.

Nice info Frank, I like this statistic "even though 53% of Cdns support legalization and 2/3rds support decrim." Even though the conservatives were boasting that 70% of Canadians supported bill c-15.

Every time Canada has considered changing its policies on cannabis the US has come in and stomped it out, going back to the LaDain Commission in the 70's. Freakin hypocrites. Peace GS

guys how could the law pass if the house is closed until MARCH. until then we should all be phoning, emailing, visiting our local politicians and personally telling them our feelings!!!

That 70% stat (actually 71%) came from this poll:

http://www.angus-reid.com/polls/view/16300

Question: Do you support or oppose each of these measures proposed by the federal government to deal with drug abuse?...

"Ensuring mandatory minimum prison sentences and large fines for marijuana grow operators and drug dealers"

Support: 71% Oppose: 24%

Complete Poll (PDF):
http://www.angus-reid.com/uppdf/ARS_Drugs.pdf

Obviously, the respondents to that poll only had vague mental image of who the "bad guys" are who would get locked up. The reality will not match this image.

A specific question, like this, would receive a radically different result than the question on the Angus Reid poll...

"Do you support or oppose jailing people for 9 months if they're caught growing 1 cannabis plant, to sell, in a rental property?"
