hi,i'm curious about using less then 12 hours during flower,my plan is lights on during night time hours..9 pm to 9am,but i have roomates,so if i could cut it down to 10 hours lights on..is that possible? is that something that has been done?

Ive done 11/13 but not 10/14. Maybe one of the experts can chime in and give you some of the specifics. However, my past experiences with growing around roomates have not been pleasant to say the least. My number one rule is tell no one. So unless your roomates have no life and never have people over who could possibly see or smell any signs which could blow your operation... then IMHO..... dont do it. You can never be too careful.

Yes, it is possible yosun, but you will be losing yield. 12/12 is considered optimal. I've read in HT of a grower going 12/12 for 3 weeks, then going 13/11 for a few to overdrive them, then back to 12/12.

Going 10/14 will give you a smaller yield, and probably finish a bit earlier. Cutting to less than 12 hours light in late bloom is said to be helpful in getting some sativas to finish (ripen), which would otherwise keep throwing out new clusters.

I'm a noob here, this is all information that I have read or been told, not really from experience.

I would be real careful cutting back less than 12/12. Plants need the light to do their thing. Ten hours could really cut yield. I wouldn't do it myself. How we grow is what the plant needs.

may as well try it and report back with your findings

you will just lose yield as said above. Your plant needs to produce energy, it will produce energy as long as light is available. The only reason we do 12/12 is to make the plant bud hard. less hours than this will cost u some yield, 11/13 will be almost un-noticeable, 10/14 will definately be noticeable loss, but you can do it.

You can do it but I wouldn't advise it until the last 3 weeks. Before I went perpetual, I used to go 10/14 for 1 week (3 weeks from chop) and then 8/16 for the last 2 weeks...but that is after the buds were already full sized.

I never do a 12/12 sched, it is always 11/13 at best, that way I can ensure that I get 12 hours darkness at least.

It is the dark cycle that is more important here.

Many many people use an 18 dark 6 hour light cycle. does it decrease yield? sure, but also finishes plants a couple weeks earlier

I use a cycle timer and for flowering do 7 on 12 off ... outstanding results in 20% less time! Cutting the length of the "days" down to 19 hrs vs. a 24 hour day speeds up flowering.
