Hey, IC. I've just ordered my 400w HPS and I'm looking forward to joining the club. My first run with the 400 will be a seed run with Diesel Ryder from Supreme Beanz at UDG. I got a mixed pack of some querkle crosses he did too. If I can figure out a way to run both I will. I also have a 150 HPS that is currently growing a couple autos. Would I be able to get away with planting the DR's and two weeks later starting the querkle crosses? Once the DR's finish up (8-10 weeks from seed).. i could flip from 20/4 to 12/12 to flower the Querkle crosses out... Does 8 weeks from seed make a good veg period? The space I'm using has a 7 foot cieling
hey coltrane!! good to see a another 400 watt grower getting started. 8 weeks from seed leaves no veg period since it will take 8 weeks to flower them. plan on 3-4 months till harvest from seed, depending on long you veg for. with 7 ft cielings you could veg them pretty good.

Anyone using a CMH 400? How about growing vertical?
I've had pretty good results with my 400 growing horiz in the past. I see you guys get more of a yield than me...I get 3-4 colas like that, not 20...but I grow from seed, not clones. That's why I'm going vertical this time, to get the yield up.
I'm a "soil" guy who grows in a metal shed outside. I have trouble with temperature control so my yields and growing technique suffer. No hydro for me. But, with my ghetto setup...I can keep myself supplied with meds.
This time I've got some CindyHaze (Wally Duck, C99 and Tom Hill Haze), Apollo 11 (Joey Weed, C99 and Bros Grimm Genius), Barney's LSD (Won the cup for best indica last year), Satori, and for sleepy time...Nirvana Afghan. They're coming along SLOWLY...it's been a cold winter, lots of nights below freezing, and I got a late start...but they're doing well. They're on their third set of leaves. I should know by the end of the month who's staying and who's getting the boot.
I'll keep a few males to make some seed. Any suggestions who I should keep and who I should cross? The LSD is fem. I've got some GA I used last season but I only got 1 male flower to open and I don't think it was viable pollen...I didn't get any seeds so far. It was White Rhino that I treated with the GA. Anyone have any luck making fem seeds?
As soon as I can sex them, I'll transplant into 3 gal pots for their final home before flowering.
I'll cage the vertical bare 400W bulb, arrange the girls around it, and let them fight it out with only minimal interference. I'll stop raising the bulb after it reaches about 3 ft.
What do you fellow 400 people think? 8 plants around the hanging bulb...sound doable?

what size buckets are they in?
how long are you begging these big ladies before flipping to 12/12? Or how long veg, maybe a better question?
I'm having a hard time pulling more than a QP with my 400w HPS but I'm only using 4 plants, so my space isn't maxed.
I'm trying to do a long veg this time. here's the ladies I'm working on. Maybe they are 8" to a foot tall now...

So what kind of yield can you expect from a 400W HPS? I know there are tons of variables but... 4oz?

Been a long time since I posted in here. I have one DWC Grapefruit Diesel plant flowering in a 4ft x 2ft custom cab, just finished stretching and is about to start budding. I'll put up some more shots as she gets close to finishing or you can follow along with the link in my sig.
