I need to know what size plant/soil you are trying to feed. The general answer is... not much at all. I add about a tablespoon per plant at feeding time... in 3 gallon pots. This dose lasts about a week to two weeks, depending on conditions in the grow room. It really comes down to knowing --by looking at the plants-- how much guano is needed. Just be conservative with your doses at first, and increase until you find the sweet spot.

Yeah Jack, detachable lens. I used two different lenses for these shots. There are more shots waiting on my desktop that I'll post some time soon. The lens for the far shots was an 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens. The close-ups are taken with an AF Micro-NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8D.

Well that's something I can look forward to.. It's a lot of fun to do the porn. I'm amazed at times that some shot is just so special.

I'm sure you have your favorites. I really haven't seen much of your work so I'm sure I'll enjoy all you present for review.

You might find it funny that I haven't but I'm good to go the way it's gone..
I'd like to take better shots. Not sure i am ready for something like a D90 but I do like that newer sony 10mp? with 10x optical. i bet that will take some nice shots like the sea or perhaps a sun set over the snowy mountains.

Anyway Props on the apparent accomplishments .

Need a better soil shot than that tho... it is organic soil after all..

There's another crop of SFV about 2 weeks behind these, and another crop about two weeks behind those... Never-ending ripening! Just the way I like it. Perpetual harvest.

Here are the other photos I took this evening. Almost ready for harvest. I harvested some two ago, too. Seems like we're in constant harvest mode here. Non-stop cannabis, it is good.

Any particular brand of guano you like to use? And you said you use seabird and bat guano,is the seabird for veg and the bat for flowering? I tried using guano to top dress with a couple of times but i could never get it to soak into the soil properly and it would eventually start getting moldy,was i maybe using too much?

but both done from the SFV OG bx1 seeds we got from capt crip a few 420's back

I use the Guano Co's 13-1-2 Bat and Seabird Guano. It incorporates into the soil nicely, as long as you don't add too much. And when I water, I agitate the soil surface enough to cause the guano to mix into the surface. Yeah, I'd say that if you're getting mold you're adding too much at a time. I only dust about a tablespoon onto the surface of 3 gallons of soil... this lasts for up to two weeks.

As for which I use, when... I use the 13-12-2 for all stages except for the last two feeding weeks, where I switch to a 1-10-1 fossilized guano. It takes very, very little to get good results. BTW, I have also used JUST the 13-12-2 right through the entire life of the plants and they love it, and don't get all leafy from too much Nitrogen. If you're adding just a tablespoon every week or two... the amount of Nitrogen is always going to be very small.

can it be possible to get these results with DIY products... Or do you have to by guano... I been to the hydro store, but guanos is really expensive. ... can i just use chicken shit I look online and it is the same active ingredient....

CC - I love the simplicity and results of your method. Since I do not have an a "real soil" at this stage I will try a few plants using your guano method and report back.

I recently got about 200lbs of free bat guano from my farm, but its not yet in my hands, it is composting apparently, says my mother. I'm digging not having to mix watering solutions anymore, so annoying. As I have never worked with guano, I am assuming that the guano you use is uncomposted, is this a correct assumption? Any thoughts on how to work with this composted guano? I am also getting a bag of Welcome Harvest Bat Guano on the way to use in the interim.

Joe Organic, It IS possible to get these results with do it yourself products, absolutely. The trick is in knowing exactly what nutrients are available in your soil at any given moment... which becomes rather tricky when you're reusing your medium. The most common problems I've seen with reusing mediums is pH fluctuation as the organic matter in the medium goes through it's various stages of decomposition. All this can be mastered, but it's quite labor intensive; too labor intensive for my own purposes.

Now, about guanos being expensive... I usually get all the guano my plants need for a month or more for just $13. I don't consider that very expensive, really. You're only using between a teaspoon and a tablespoon per plant (depending on the size of the plant/container), so in the end it's very, very inexpensive.

Chicken shit is very "hot". Meaning it has high Nitrogen amounts, which release too quickly, burning plants and causing harsh taste. I would certainly NOT tell you to avoid trying it, who knows, maybe you'll get it to work... but trail and error can take time and cause frustration... That's a personal choice.

I like bat and seabird guanos, the Nitrogen is fast enough to make an almost immediate difference to the plant, which not being strong enough to burn (unless you grossly over-apply).

Green&Gold, add a few stones to your organic medium and you can officially call it "soil". It all feeds the plants in the same basic way.

As for your 200 lbs of composting guano... Ummm. I'm not sure of what that'll be like when composted, honestly. I've only worked with bagged guanos, which have come in powder form, which I assume are not composted before being dried and powdered. With home made, composted guano, you're talking about something I don't know enough about to give advice, sorry.

wow CC thanks. any specific advice on how I can get the DIY stuff to work? what am I looking for the plants to be doing. Do I need to keep measuring the pH.

I am on a fixed income now so 14 a month is kinda stiff. i have all the light i want and a was gonna move containers inan out until its warm.

MicrobeMan would be helpful on that topic too, probably. Pm one of those guys and tell them what you DO have to work with, and they should be able to steer you in the right direction. cc
