Does anyone know about using a waterbed mattress?

Hello all...Does anyone know about using a waterbed mattress as an reservoir? I cant seem to find any threads or info on actually doing it and the technical details. What do you know about it?:yeahthats

Sounds like a ditzy idea to me! Why not just use a 55 gallon plastic barrel? It seems to me that the water would contain lots of chemicals from the mattress. I've had a waterbed, and those mattresses are not very sturdy! when they are emptied, the water smells all chemical.

Are you gonna bury it?

You could technically use any type of container to use as a rez. I don;t see why you couldn;t retrofit extra connections to it for return/out lines. I don't know if I would put a air pump line for circulation in it though lol. Might flood it all over you place.

This is for outdoor...

The waterbed matresses hold over 200 gal while being very easy easy to conceal by covering with a tarp and brush. Plus it is much easier to haul a 3 lb mattress folded up than a mega drum. Peoplemight wonder what im doing with that huge trash can dragging around haha...

I wasnt planning on burying but laying it on top of the dirt from the holes i dig and then covering it all up with camo.

Those mattresses get leaks pretty easy! How are you gonna fill it up? The water inside gets funky even on a bed......

gets funky ehh? I dunno never had a waterbed hehe. I've "heard" if people using them....just never seen any proof.

I was wanting to fill with a gas powered pump (wx10/15) from a nearby water source.

I'd say its doable, but the material may degrade in UV light... Poke a few 1 mm holes... Just 1-2 per plant. You could drip irrigate the whole garden! I'd carry the water to it and funnel it in... You won't be able to carry it... Try and disguise it with brush.... unless your plants simply cover it up... :D

just started another thread on this same idea, but with inflatable rafts. Man i thought i had a one of a kind idea....oh well. i guess i dint, good pic fast pine...

hmm...hhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........

well..fuck. Im thinking of doing these kiddie pools now. They are real cheap like 12 bux and hold 120gal. That should be good for 10-15 plants for 2 months. They are the thick flexible plastic ones not the inflatable ones. It stands like 12" tall so they are very low profile. WHat I'm thinking is that i can lay the dirt from the holes that are dug to make a elevated "soft" base like 6" high for the pool to sit on and then use more of the hole dirt to cover and hold the sides up and in. This way the gay kiddie graphics are totally covered and it is also mostly protected from the sun and hot weather and also mostly cammo'd. Then just cover it tightly with a black tarp and throw some brush over it etc for total cammo.

I am still trying to figure how to get a water hose connected to the very botom to drain water to holes...Obviously some kinda "though hole" fitting, but it needs to be a real secure connection so it doesn't tear the cheap pool up. Then attach one of them fancy watering timers and that should do it.

If ya are serious about taking a kiddy pool outdoors and to ya plants why not go one step further and spray paint the damn thing green, brown, black in camo fashion? That would save you huge amounts of time trying to hide and conceal it, also a open water source like a kids pool is open game for any wild life that wants a nice drink on a hot day.

If your water source is close enough by, why not just run irrigation lines from the water source right to ya plants?

Now for the waterbed, The hole in which you fill it up can be also used for distributing ya water from, Fill it up then once its full ya can detach the lines from the water source to the mattress, Then reattach the lines going to ya plants to the mattress
