I'm waiting for an answer on what's better:
5 shelves, and 1 gallon pots

or

4 shelves, and 2 gallon pots

Hey Lugen :)

I use 1gal bags with 5 shelves (9 per shelf) but...I run 4 600w hps in a 7x7x10 room so the top shelf doesn't get as much light but the strain I use does pretty good in low light situations.

Also, because I do this alone I stagger my harvests. I take down about 15 to 20 plants (1-2oz) every two weeks or so. I harvested a full room the first time and never again will I attempt that...it almost killed me ;)

One more thing...I find pre-vegging clones in 9oz clear cups (placed inside beer cups) before going into 1gal bags works best for me. It allows them to build up a good root system first...plus I can squeeze more in my veg space which is kinda small at the moment.

My current strategy is to 86 the rapid rooters (I don't like them at all) and try rooting right in the 9oz cups filled with my soilless mix (Fafard Growing Mix #2 with 25% perlite), I've used every method known to man, save tissue culture and I think this will work best for me.

I'm also contemplating Hempy buckets in my stadium...if I can find 1gal buckets that will fit on my 2x6 shelves. Simple passive hydro in a stadium should consistently allow for 2oz plants....which is my current goal.

Take Care and Happy New Year,
~DK

it wouldnt do you any good unless you were very close to me. just check the cities surrounding your area. click on the "for sale" section, and type in "halide". you will get lots of 400's but sometimes you find 1k's. just mentioned it so you look before buying new ones. never know what u find on c-list

aging cities like detroit are your best bet, but you have to be close enuf to go get em. they cost more to ship that they are worth.

Northern Farmer, as an experienced grower, you are telling me that I can use Mh for flower too? How much is the yield effected?:joint:

Our record crops to this date have all been with cheap Phillips type MH. I'm now using Eye Hortilux HPS. I have seen instant improvement over the cheap HPS I was working but I cannot compare yeilds of old because its all Kush these days and I don't grow the old strains that the biggest crops came from. Kush is a yield killer....

For years I've been blowing people away with my MH yields and quality. People just assume you cant do well.

Go to the early pages on this thread for some of mine.

I'm liking this. We strated with 3 shelves in the early days. I'm heading back that way since canada's playing the numbers game with sentencing now. Longer cycles but much bigger numbers.

northern gardener can u comment on how u like the purple kusk? we are finding it to yield low and be very finiky to feed, wondering if u had any suggestions as the price is right for her! thanxs

Love to smoke it hate to grow it. I'm topping now. It doesnt bush out and take up too much more shelf space. You get 2 or 3 chunks on top instead of one. It gives better bag appeal along with the incease in yield. It's hard to over veg as well. The stretch is way less than your average strain. If you think you've vegged too long when triggering, you'll be surprised.

Good Luck.

Afteer reading the threads about flip flops i think it is better to buy another $70 ballst & I wire it.

I would if you were running just a couple or few ballasts. Running 18 bulbs off 9 ballasts makes sense though. Not having relays makes your veg so much better but the crops I've had with the half bulb veg have had some larger ones as well. Keep it simple unless you are forced to be resourcefull.

This is strain related. If it's not a bushy plant and you can keep up with clone supply and trimming, go with one gal 5 shelves. If it is a big branchier plant, then go bigger pot and less shelves.

glad to see you around NFR. :yappy: <-love the "canadian" smiley.

hows things up there? i build em with 3 because of the numbers limits as well. 5 with 250 would be easier, but i have to keep it under 100 for sure. 80 preferably. that makes for 3 month runs tho:whistling:. time consuming. that one is full now, ill put some pics up this summer when its all empty.

Great set up... Stadiums always seemed a good way to go to me, perhaps i've just been too stoned when thinking about outfitting a space for it me thinks.

Cheers

Please, stadium questions on here only please. I get a lot of stuff sent to my pm box and most of it has been answered here on this thread to begin with. I'll do my best to help people trying out a set up but don't let my involvent be critical. I may not be around to answer.

I always love seeing your results. Anything I can try out in my room would be appreciated.

NFR,

Thanks for the inspiration bro!!! Mr. Stinky turned me onto this thread, and I haven't looked back since. I was planning a 3.5' x 3.'5 flat garden in a spare beedroom, but since seeing this--all about the stadium.

I've pretty much copied your design, but my room is only 5' long (5' x 6.5' x 6.5').

I've read through all the posts here, and have made notes along the way. I want to get your input though: you think I'll be good with ONE 1K bulb for these diemensions?

im planning to put a bulb every 2.5ft like NFR so id do 2 in 5 ft legth

I must have missed that, appreciate it.

errr i made a mistake

2.5 ft between bulbs may be wrong

he runs 10 ft long, 4 bulbs

i dont know if i read 2.5 ft apart but that wouldnt work, bulbs on ends would be right against walls
its probably every 2 feet from ends right?
