Well, the whole thing's fucked. I'm probably not going to update for a while, because there's nothing worth showing. If and when that changes, I'll take pictures.

Yeah... and it's not even something where I can sit back, reflect on my mistake and go forward with new knowledge. It's just some arbitrary, unannounced moment when suddenly my water became toxic.

At least nothing's dead... but once what's "flowering" currently is done, it may be 6-8 weeks before anything else is in any condition to replace it.

I've started 2 more Tsi Fly (finishing out pack #1) and 5 more F99, just in case. I'll take harvest shots such as they are... at least the massive lockout bomb has brought some colors to the party. I also bought a RO filter for myself, but it's coming out at 8.5pH+ right now as well. I can't fucking win. So I ordered a TDS pen, and I'm going to get to the bottom of it one way or another.

And once I can grow again, I shall. :smoke:

Well, good news I think. My TDS pen came this morning and after checking my water sources, I feel a lot better about my situation.

My tapwater is very high-pH (above the 8.5 range of my drops) and that seems to be carrying over to the RO water, which is also in the 'blue' range as far as pH goes. The filter does seem to be doing its job, though - tapwater ~350ppm but RO water ~20ppm.

So I'm starting with a baseline I can handle. 20ppm is good. I'll have to change my habits as my previous RO source was much more acidic (~6-6.2) but this can be worked with. Also... I love this pen. I think I want a pH pen to go with it now.

One problem down... now I've just got an aftermath to deal with. Thanks, everyone, for the well-wishes and sympathy. :smoke:

Good way to look at it SB,it's just like eating an elephant, one bite at a time.you should see my city water report, scary,ph 8.5 out of the tap, loaded with calcium, over 200ppm by itself, aerating seems to lower the ph,not sure, dont have a pen,i make take your lesson and replace mine now!!

We have about the same water, sounds like. Mine's chloramine-sanitized too so I can't just evap out the chlorine.

So nice to have this filter... now that it's been running for a couple gallons, the last one I filled came out to 8ppm! That's what I'm talking about. pH corrected it to 6.5 with a couple drops of white vinegar... up to 17ppm. Whew.

still on chlorine here thank god,i still cut my tap water by 50% with ro,the plants do seem to like the calcium, just not so much each watering, thankfully we have ic.

No kidding... the Great Stoner Overmind is one hell of a resource. :)

I let my tap run a bit like the RO filter for a better test, and it looks like 350ppm is what happens in my kitchen pipes when I don't run the water for a couple of days. After letting the faucet run a bit it's reading 188.

Edit: looking forward to testing my previous RO source. I bet it's no longer at ~8ppm... soon as I can get out there (icy roads) I'm gonna.

They liiiiive!

Seriously, I haven't said anything because when I do, the gods smite my hubris. But I think I'm past the hairy part of this... some of the ladies are looking like they're recovering and a few even show un-curled leaves and NEW GROWTH!

It's still a horrible mess... but I'll be back to posting in the near future I think.

Another status update... couple of the vegging girls (most everything is veg now, the flowering situation is awful) are growing with flat, lifted-up leaves and new growth! It's been a few weeks since I've seen leaves... it's very exciting, at least to me. :)

I managed to get 8 of 9 seeds to germinate, so I have new life as well. Those are:

5/5 - F99
2/2 - Tsi Fly
1/2 - Grape Skunk S1 (From my backup stash of selfed seeds... wanted some guaranteed-females in case things were truly catastrophic, and I needed to 12/12 some emergency personal smoke. :smoke:)

Good to hear man, I had some poor luck too but not as bad as yours.. I'm glad its coming around. I'll get an update of my seedlings later on but they're not doing well... a shelf got knocked over, they all got knocked loose from their pots, dumped on the floor and are mixed up and shocked :S Needless to say that's why I havent updated in a while.. I wasnt sure if they'd live or not but it looks like most if not all will.. but now they're mixed up.

Che, that sucks too... Kallen had a similar event at the beginning of the OD season. The jumble of 'mystery plants' ended up just fine, if I recall. I'm sure yours will too.

Definitely not been the most fun 3 weeks in the garden, but some changes and experience have come from it. I've become intimately acquainted with the flushing process. I have a TDS and pH pen. I have my own RO filter that's not 20 miles away. I've dumped my Grow Big (which I was never happy with) and replaced it with Algoflash (6-6-6) for a one-part veg mix that is easy to pH. No more Cal-Mag.

Crises precipitate change.

So... here's the one you all (or at least I) have been waiting for:

They're fine!

It's kinda a long story - it's only partially thanks to the pH issue in the end - and I'm not in a typing mood... so here's the short version:

Furnace went bad. Heat exchanger cracked. Something in the exhaust that was leaking into the house is toxic to plants.

The furnace has been replaced, and all of the plants - every single last individual one - is back up and not only looking good... but growing like crazyshit.

Suddenly I have too many seedlings... hehe.

As for flowering... I am prepared to write my tent off as a total loss. The CFL box has been unplugged for 2 weeks. But all that means to me is that I have a blank canvas and an urge to write Chapter 2.

So we'll have Chapter 2 of this project beginning next week. For those of you who are still tuned in, thank you for sticking it out with me and get ready for some more pictures... finally. :smoke:

So I started the day off with a bowl of Mirre, read unclefishtick's Mirre thread, and now it occurs to me that I haven't given any updates since harvesting mine. I do think that my decisions have been made on keepers, so here's my take:

#1 is being kept for now. It's a very sweet, soft smoke with a very sweet, soft buzz. To be perfectly clear, potency is excellent. That's not what I mean by soft! I mean it hits you like a warm blanket. It's got a good, warm-and-friendly body buzz, good for moderate pain relief and major relaxation. It's listen to music with your eyes closed and head bobbing-kinda herb.

The odor is a nice lemony-candy sweet smell with a hint of sharpness that lets you know it's herb. I think I smell a hint of Afghani funk in her too, but after several weeks in the jar that's less-prevalent. Yield was good - 23g.

#3 has been culled. It smelled darkfruity/earthy and had a one-dimensional but super-strong narcotic stone. I'm talking like... equilibrium issues after a session. Almost no head, though. As a med smoke it would have been worth keeping but it stretched too much and yielded too little - 8 measly grams -for a 10-weeker. I believe I can find similar smoke on a much higher-yielding and faster indica plant.

#4 is my stretchy Jack-leaner. I love Jack Herer so it's also still in the stable - but I think I have decided over the last week to flower out what I have of her and let her go. Her structure is identical to #3 and while her smoke fits that stretchy, sparse frame it's still a stretchy, sparse plant. I only got 9g from her. The smoke is keeper-level but I have other strains that fill its niche better with better yield - if that makes sense. She is so delicious, with such a clear and upbeat head though... my decision is not yet final. EDIT: I think she'd be one hell of a SCROG plant. I have been considering trying SCROG, I may keep a mom going until then.

#2, obviously, is all that's left. This is a magnificent plant. She outyielded her sisters mightily (27g - single-cola in < 1g, under a 250!) and the smoke...

Opening the jar should not be done within 3 feet of any surface whose paint you don't wish to strip. I would recommend caution re: eyebrows as well. It's got a Jacky smell like #4 but with a much, much sharper edge. More chemical, less citrus; tart, sharp, penetrating... think smelling-salts kind of effect after a good whiff. The nose tingles. It's got some kinda funk... Jack Herer and turpentine and WD-40 and ... nuclear lemons?

The smoke itself is of a similar potency. 2 nights ago a buddy and I - two growers with epic tolerance - decided to push the ceiling. We never found it. Also I haven't been that high in years. It's like rocket fuel. There's a body component that builds along with the head which is incapacitating in high doses. I drove home much later than I intended, because I had to wait until I felt safe doing so.

The head itself is surging, soaring, not racy but ... very expansive. Your forehead feels like it's expanding like a balloon. Thoughtspace seems to expand to fill the cavity. After a bit of abuse that thoughtspace seems to collapse, leaving only gigglespace. One should sit down at this point. It's not a clear head at all, it will twist you up like the end of a joint and smoke you in the same fashion. I love it. It's an escape pod - get-fucked-up weed of the highest order.

She's my keeper. She'd be anyone's keeper, I think. Thanks, Karma! :smoke:
