I am just saying us getting the units and doing a test grow should have been completed before anyone spent so much money.

I would have searched for other users and happy growers before I spent any money and if I could not have found anyone happy other then a vendor. I wouldn't have forked out any money.

Like now I am looking for a 600w bulb for my cousin because he doesn't have net access and trying to find out the best one. So i'll search the forums I know usually go someplace like amazon for customer reviews and then maybe ebay just to see what people are bidding and how long the auctions have been running.

I am also submitting my grow to a canna mag to be published either good or bad.

By the way sah if you're considering bulbs take a look at the Philips 400W "Retro-HPS" CMH bulbs.

They are supposed to be more efficient than HPS and way cooler (but still hot). They are made specifically to be used on 400W HPS ballasts (non-digital only).

That's what I use... Don't have anything bad to say other than they STILL don't make larger than 400w. They run considerably cooler.

POWERPLANT 600WATT HPS BRO

Its worth noting that you used a sketchy LED panel. Its been proven that plants respond best to LEDs outputting in a specific light spectrum. Individual LED diodes in that spectrum are incredibly expensive, so it would be in a manufacturer's best interest to increase their profit margin by using LEDs that are unsuited for plant growth. I'm just assuming this since I can't find any technical information about your panel. But this would explain why so many people like you are seeing bad results with their LEDs, because they buy cheap, poorly-designed panels.

As for penetration, according to LEDgirl, most panels output the light at 120 degrees, a very broad and inefficient angle for maximum light penetration. Her lights are made with either a 60 degree or 30 degree angle and therefore should have much better penetration.

So for these reasons I'm betting on S_a_H proving you waaay wrong. I'm not hating or trying to advertise for LEDgirl, just making sure the facts are straight. Though I'll admit that I'm skeptical of the claims for LEDs, especially that a 126w panel is the equivalent of a 400w HPS. I can't wait for all of these LED grows to finish up and give us some real 100% credible evidence.

Now this cant ever be possible, how can 126W led be as good as a 400w hps dude? i mean for the price of ledgirls lights i can buy maybe 4 400w lights and a 400w hps footprint is alot bigger then her 126 panel! see she will say anything to sell her goods thats her job bro, just like sah pointed out earlier from what ive seen of this grow using her lights, i think im happy with hps never done me wrong!

OK, YOU WIN I GET THIS !!!!!!!!!! WE KNOW IT HAS A SMALLER FOOTPRINT. WHY ? BECAUSE IT IS FOCUSED DOWNWARD AT 60 DEGREES.

Now go on to the next part can a 136w panel grow one plant as well as a 400w HPS can grow one plant.

At the end of the day, talk is cheap.
What needs to be done is a controlled test using clones, not AF seeds, since they all vary in phenotype unless its a super stable ibl (and even then...)

LEDs sound awesome but I think we're still far away from seeing their true potential at the moment. Also the price is totally nuts, I mean, you got them for free tho so it's cool hehe. I wouldn't spend $1200+ to get 3 of those 136watts though.

Guess we'll wait till you grow out under your HPS...

I dare you to go to this page and do a little intelligent reading: http://www.sunmastergrowlamps.com/SunmLightandPlants.html

"If PAR is considered to correspond more or less to the visible region, then a 400 watt metal halide lamp provides about 140 watts ofPAR. A 400 watt HPS lamps has less PAR, typically 120 to 128 watts, but because the light is yellow it is rated at higher lumens (for the human eye)."

So if a 400W HPS (from the mouth of the bulb MFR) only has 120-128W of PAR light, and their light output drops much faster over time than LED, we feel it is pretty safe to say that our 126W light with 120W of PAR lighting is comparable to a 400W HPS.

Someone mentioned a thing or two about us using the same LED's as everyone else, and while I don't know what everyone else uses, we use Bridgelux and Semi LED's, both of which are made in the USA. The higher you go (3W, 5W), the cheaper the LED's become in dollar per watt values. This means any competitor using 5W or 6W LED's, is actually selling you a product that is much cheaper to build watt for watt vs ours. The main difference between a 1W and 5W is simply that the 5W is driven at a much higher amperage (although they tend to be the same chip as the 1W). Their efficiency in terms of lumen per watt output decreases, as wattage increases. So while a 3W Red LED emits 80 lumens at 700mA, 3 x 1W LED's at 350mA produce 135 lumens. Anyhow, needed to clear the air on that although the member has since been banned. Even if other companies used the same LED's as we do, the spectral output in nm's, and the ratios at which they are used, have a definite effect on growth.

WOW this sour 60 looks superior to any auto i have ever seen so far. Look at that spectacular trichome coverage on the fanleaves. That girl looks lethal imo. I cant wait for the rest of this thread, cant believe i have been sleeping on it.

Have a fantastic new year guys. good work!! :D

which is lucky for you, because you do enough of it. :D

easy to find fault in any test, but at the end of the day if the unit manages to grow some decent buds then thats a good thing yes?

you can check out my micro grow if you like, im growing a clone under there that i previously grew under hps so as things move on i will have some comparison.

Except you started out with 2 small plants and pulled them and stuck a single large cfl vegged plant in their place.

Greets VerdantGreen,

I'm not picking at any tests, Im just sayings its better to do a controlled test than to argue about which is better.

"Controlled" since this strain is being grown for the first time we can't know how the leds are performing versus hps.

, but at the end of the day if the unit manages to grow some decent buds then thats a good thing yes?.

Not when the units cost over $400.
You also can grow decent bud under CFLs.
Check S_a_H's bluestreak plants in his album. He has one that was done with 2 80W CFLs if I am not mistaken. Look at the frost on that one.

The high efficiency of leds only saves you money in the long run, and if you are growing bulk.

So, how much time will you need to use your leds for it to be able to save enough money to offset the initial high price ?

PS:
which is lucky for you, because you do enough of it.
Curious thing to say for some1 that has 5.9x more posts than me and only 1 month older. :p

Hehehe....

Cheers...

I dont see where anyone in this thread is trying to make themselves look like Phd's writing a scientific article. Topic simply reads LED grown Sour 60, and I would say the result looks excellent and the product descriptions are good.

These are open forums where any information is subjective and all members are hiding behind fantasy online personalities. One has to be able to sort and verify the information oneself. This is not a scientific site, and it never pretends to be. One of the reasons why I dont visit this thread too often is because it gets drowned with unserious critique. And im sorry about that SaH. Please let the (wo)man do the report and he or she may answer the questions for you.

LED or no LED, it looks good SaH, both the genetix and the grow looks good based on all criteria I normally judge by. Bigup, you have me exited about this strain now!

Actually it was two 65w bulbs and I was damn happy with that grow...lol

For the cost offset would only have to be one or two grows. One and a half O's just about equals the cost so anything over that in the initial grow pays for one of the 136w units and what just over 3 O's pays for the 372w unit.

Truthfully my main goal with AF's is to create a true med strain that can be grown uber stealthy. Not all med people are poor but a lot are and that initial output of cash could be out of reach. That was the purpose of growing those BS under the CFL's just to show you can do it for just about $200 including seeds. I paid $35 for the light , $30 for soil and $25 for the nutes.

Two 65W CFLs wow.
That pic is delicious.
I am SURE you were damn happy with that grow lol :D

It will sure make AF/CFL haters pissed off ... Who'd believe an AF grown under CFL will produce bud that great looking ?

Truthfully my main goal with AF's is to create a true med strain that can be grown uber stealthy.

We're getting there,,, or might have already got there.. 2-3 more weeks and we'll know for sure..

I'm quite optimistic about using that tall pheno for breeding.
I don't know about you, but I think every1's sick of small runty Lowryder-like plants.
Even MDanzig, according to what he says, wants nothing to do with lowryder anymore I'm sure.

You can always top/lst/etc bigger plants to stay short but end up yielding much more after all.

PS: Heheh.. Again,,, for commercial/bulk growers they are fine. If you sell an oz or two you're covered..
But if you are barely growing enough for your own consumption .. kinda like med patients ?

They need to get a bit cheaper for that,,, and they surely will, with time.
All new technologies cost a lot at first.

arctic you are correct.
100% with you.
And I am sorry if I have contributed negatively here, not sure if you were addressing me or some1 else...
I think the led vs X convo can (should) be taken somewhere other than this thread.
Sorry about that S_a_H

ps: I think we're all happy and optimistic about this grow thought.

hi blynx, yes i did as i had a nicely vegged up plant that otherwise would have been thrown away. i like to flower nice big plants in a small space in the hope of getting decent yields ;) and those watching seemed to want to see the buds rather than the veg. if you have a problem with that then feel free to go and post it on the thread.

I think both the smaller and taller AF strains have their purpose. I would say you are freakin crazy to think of growing Sour 60 in a computer case. Even if you LST and top you get to the point why not just purchase something that fits to start with.

That Auto Afghani cut should be here today or Saturday and if that is a good smoke that is going to take the place of LR for me and effectively move me away from Autoflowers.

Lets hope its shit then... hehehe.. j/k..

Sour 60 in a computer case ? Yeah a bit extreme, not that I suggested that.
Bluestreak in a computer case ? Maybe, if theres ever one that isn't full and running around.

I was kinda talking more about vigor than size tho..
