Cloned a story of root devlopment PART #1

:smoweed:

.I have been searching the forums and the web for a nice detailed
thread on cloning. I was most interested in what to look for as far as
root growth and method. Well I found tons of pics with fully rooted clones
and tons of pics of freshly cut cuttings. :wallbash:

.That brings us to today I have been working on just such a thread to
help other noobs like myself understand what to look for and expect.:canabis:

.I am no expert I have a total of 7 out of 11 clones under my belt:asskick:
With 4 of them still being in the bubbler growing roots as I type this.
Those 4 are the clones you will be watching on this journey through root development.
I will be taking pics of the progress every few hours until transplant and updating daily.

welcome to cloned

please note this is not a HOW TO but rather a follow along for people who have never cloned before
so they might better understand what happens from beginning to end and all things in between.
All info you find here can be found in many other places on this site and I give credit to those folks for their valuable threads.
I just feel all of them are lacking in shedding light on the process rather they all open your eyes to the methods.

here is a how to for building a bubble cloner http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=33419

Let's get this picture post underway. :tree:

I Took cuttings on 12/19

yes these pics were shot after going into status that's why their all wet.

picture.php

Placed them in status 12/19

picture.php

placed them in bubbler 12/22

scraped the thinnest layer of skin from the last 1/2" of the cuttings
bubbler temp 78
no rooting gels or powder
cut straight to prevent stem rot
rez has tap water not Ph'd
yes these are not the same cuttings above as this pic is just for reference.
I later cut all but one leaf and trimmed it in half on all of them as you will see in part #2

oh nice

showing bumps 12/28

root bumps in 6 days
dumped rez cleaned it and added fresh water

I swear by the DIY aero cloner I use 1 w/ 100% clone rate roots with in 5 to 7 days and depending on the size you need it could cost you as little as $40 to $100.I use a rez. heater in mine to keep water temps. at 75 to 78 deg. F and I also but not needed is a recycle timer for 15 min. on and 15 mins. off. R/O water w/ a ph at around 6.0 to 6.5 sometimes I will throw a little olivia's cloning liquid in there but that is also not needed too. hope this helps and good luck w/ this thread and your success in this wonderful hobby.:deadxmas:

So this concludes the story
unless I can get faster cleaner results
So check back in a few weeks to see if there is anything interesting going on in here!

Ok so I said i was going to redo this thread but im not lol

i was able to knock 10 days off the time frame by getting everything diald in but
I dont see any reason to redo this thread being that the only thing that will change is the dates

all the pics would be the same

Great thread man. So do you submerge the end of the cut in the water? I thought that was a nono? Seems to be working anyway.

Does anyone know how hot is too hot to bother with a bubble cloner? Is mid to high 80's cab temp too high? Thanks.

Thanks Scrub Ninja!!

Yes I do submerge the ends. I cant think why it would be a no no.
Im a noob but a bubbler is just water cloning with bubbles added so in essence it is the same as water cloning where you submerge the ends. Well Im not sure about the cab temps but I have my bubbler currently for lack of better housing in an open faced airbrush paint booth with a space heater keeping the ambient around 80 and I dont see any ill effects. Building them a real home today I hope.

Edit:

Well after much thought i think if they are out of the water they will grow roots faster longer in search of water. So new bubbler built and they are no longer in the water.

Not sure about cab temps but my rez temp in the bubbler was 82 for a long time and i later found out it needed to be much lower so im working on bringing it down to like 77 since i lost a few cuts.

Nice and new idea for a thread

Idk if it will help speed up your cloning process but it seems like all you did was cut the clone off the plant. Try making a 45 degree cut at the ends to increase surface area which should help speed up your cloning process by a day or more.

I dont have first hand knowledge but it has been said that a 45 cut wil have stem rot faster in water cloning. Thats why I went with a straight cut.

I love stories!

LOL who doesn't like a good story?

Well I had my dirt in my office and wasnt expecting company. So
had to relocate and temps were really low and lighting got screwed up for several days.

The story is on hold until heat mat gets here and cuts taken then we will continue this epic saga.

Ok guys heat mat is in and relocation renovations to cab and reconfiguration is complete lol so...

1 of the 4 clones we have been following is now dead but the other 3 have picked up were they left off producing roots.

So I will continue to follow them along and Update with pics here.

However I have started a new batch and I feel they will outperform this batch so I will be taking pics and keeping up with times etc...

If they do out perform and or just have a better experience in this now DIALED IN environment I will clean up this post and update it to reflect the new subjects and I will bump the thread if that happens so don't worry you wont miss out on the action!!!

Thnks for all the + comments!! I have finally got my cab 100% dialed in as far as temps and humidity levels are concerned. So this new batch should show and develop roots much faster than this first batch which went through hell for about 5 days.

I really like this thread. Since I'm new to cloning, this really helped me from a visual stand point. Nice pics, too :D Thank you!

:dance013: Thanks glad it helped even though im just learning
this.

:smokeit:

We are not done yet though still gotta get them into pots. Plus now that I have the heat mat
I'm giving the perlite method a go again to see how well it works out
might have to incorporate a side by side or make a new thread?? perlite vs bubbler?? already been done?

wait a couple more days for alot more root mass to develop

well that was 2 days ago.

check the last pic in post #2 for the root shot from 45 min ago.

Also I have one other question about the xplant.

Do I lay the root mass in the pot and bury it ?

OR

Do I hold it above the pot and fill in around the root mass ?
