Why do tobacco smokers generally only smoke cigarettes (ie no bongs)?

Tobacco. Marijuana. If you look at them from outside the box they're basically the same thing - two dried herbs that can be smoked.

Yet whereas marijuana is predominantly smoked in bongs (as it's more efficient and economical), tobacco is usually smoked as cigarettes (the pot equiv of a joint i guess)

Obviously there are people who smoke tobacco using hookahs etc, but i just can't help but wonder why more people don't smoke their tobacco through a bong like us potheads do???

Obviously the _availability_ of cigarettes is a big factor here, but why not empty out the cigarettes and smoke them via a bong???

I don't smoke tobacco so please allow for some level of ignorance, naivety and inexperience in my curious yet silly question :)

And to the ciggie smokers out there, this isn't an anti-tobacco thread - whatever you do in your life is obviously entirely up to you -- this thread is purely about the differences between how people physically smoke tobacco as opposed to marijuana.

If you dont smoke you really couldnt understand but a bong is not a good drug delivery system for tobacco you want something to deliver a smooth even flow

that would be harsh as hell, bong or no bong

I prefer to smoke J's with weed anyways, a much more relaxed method, instead of deep breath cough, cough, cough, breathe

As a lifelong tobacco user , the quality of packet cigarettes is so low that they are just a chemical hit with no real pleasure in them.
Have smoked hand rolled quality tobaccos alone and 50/50 weed for 35 years which seems the norm around here , rarely see a bong apart from the odd xmas party and everyone mixes weed and baccy.

Just one packet ciggy now makes me feel sick and dizzy , shows you how much crap there is in them and the chems added to make it burn.

Handrolling is very widespread now in the UK for the cost saveing , £10 ish for 50 g legal or half that for dodgy imports easily found.
The packet equivalent would cost £50+ for the week and we love a bit of DIY.

The "fruit" of marijuana is the seed (it's actually a nut) the flowers is what we smoke. "Tobacco" is the leaf of the nicotiana plant.

I started using tobacco when I was 13 and that was chewing tobacco because all the other farm hands chewed and the buzz was killa. At 15 I started smoking cigarettes because I wanted to be kool, but I kept it under my hat for two years. I started smoking a pipe when I as in my early 20s and this became my standby for many years. I became a connoisseur of fine tobaccos and started smoking fine cigars in my mid and late 30s until my wife said there would be a divorce if I didn't stop because the house smelled like old cigar smoke so I stopped smoking cigars and reverted back to cigarettes and the pipe. The pipe was particularly hard to give up because the flavor or stove-cured tobacco is out of this world and inhaling the mixture provided an extreme amount of nicotine that fed my huge addiction. I knew that I had to quit the pipe first so I switched to cigarettes and then I quit smoking cigarettes on the afternoon of March 12th, 2007. I've had not tobacco since then, no cheating; not even once.

I get the raving craving every day and I go to sleep many nights having just reflected on the fact that I don't have a cigarette even though I am surrounded by three smokers in my house. I look at my wife (who has emphysema) and am watching her drown in her own lung fluids a little more each day and I know that she probably doesn't have more than 2 or 3 birthdays left with me before she finally chokes out for the last time (it destroys a little bit more of my heart every day as I find each day is important and each night a gift). She started smoking at 15 and now she is going to be 64 on New Year's Day. Fifty years of two packs a day have left her out of breath. She struggles through work every day and needs to be on oxygen, but will face her own death rather than suffer the indignity of oxygen. She takes Spiriva, but it is frighteningly expensive (about $18 a dose), but she continues to smoke. I had the smoker's cough for years and now I cough a couple of times a week and I never get a cold while in previous years I got the common cold at least twice a year.

I think about these things and the dreadful price I have paid for my addiction to nicotine and I am resolved to never suffer it again. Unlike alcohol (which I have a drink about once a year) I know I can never touch the tobacco again and that all my cravings are just a way for my sick mind to enslave me again. Like heroin, there is no chance of taking the risk.

If you use tobacco I urge you to consider taking Chantix as it will help you quit. You will have to really REALLY want to quit, but if you do you will be successful.

Rant complete.

Merry Christmas.

I know a few tobacco smokers that only smoke hookahs

Id imagine most people smoke cigarettes over pipes/bongs cause theres just something about that feeling, kinda like having a joint, sometimes its nice to leave the vapes, bongs & cakes & roll a nice joint....

besides the obvious harshness, its just not practical to carry around a bong filled with water and ice at all times. When i smoked cigarettes, i'd be smoking them while driving and walking, etc. Much easier to puff a cig OR a joint than a bong or even a bowl. It stays lit and it's compact!

but i haven't smoked in a while, and i don't plan on smoking again

Not that it is impossible, but trying to smoke a bong while driving is difficult. "No ociffer its tobacco, really".

cause tobacco bongs would make you throw the fuck up.. thats why

 Exactly

Nicotine is best at a slow and steady pace plus its effects dont last nearly as long as ganja -
if you ripped a bong fulla tobacco i almost guarantee you wouldnt want a cigarette for the next 4-5 hours but not because your satisfied or 'high'

yea handrolling is very widespread in the UK, makes me think when an american officer looks for left over doobs, how much trouble they would have if so many people hand rolled in the US.

Tobacco is a vasoconstrictor, cannabis is a vasodiolator.

If you smoke cigarettes your lungs cannot adjust to smoking huge bonghits on a whim.

Joints are closer to home because you take it in just like tobacco smoke.

Clearing a tube of cannabis smoke stretches a tobacco smoker's lungs beyond comfortable operating volume.
