Inline Fans for Micro?

I think I've made up my mind on replacing my 120mm exhaust fans with an inline. I'm doing this for all the right reasons - high temps because of restricted airflow (through a c-filter), and I'd like to have one fan to pull air out of two chambers, then out through a carbon filter.

What does anyone think about this smaller inline fan?

Or something like this? (this is probably loud)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mari...3543933QQptZBoatQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQ5fGear

I don't really have the room inside my cabinet for the fan, so I guess I will be mounting it on the outside, how are loud are these things?

Maybe I could build something around it to muffle the sound.

I also don't want anything that's going to be overkill.

Each chamber is 22" 3/4 high, 13" wide, and 13" deep.

Ideas?

so thats about 1 1/2 cubic feet per chamber ? if im reading it correctly.
how many times will the air change per minute

what pressure do you need to pull through your filter
c-filter probably halves the CFM (unless you have a better way of measuring it)

no idea how loud, i also want to know how loud so i can buy one similar

The bilge blower is useless. The S&P is pretty quiet but, they just don't suck (or scream) like a Vortex. With S&P, I'd recommend you go one model up from what you "need". I have a 250 with the 100x and it's barely able to do the job of cooling using cold winter air for intake.

No experience with Panasonic Whisperfans but many here love them

If you've got room for those 4"-3" inlines then check out small squirrel cage fans (120vac). I wouldnt consider these stealthy by any means but they'll create way more pressure for the scrubber and passive intakes. I used to have like a 6" Dayton Squirrel cage and it would suck the grow room door shut behind me LOL!
I bet a 4" squirrel cage would be perfect for you and you can always use a speed control too. 12vdc centrifugal blowers are pretty sweet too(80mm-120mm)...Or just get the real deal: 4" Vortex @ 170cfm about $150 I think. just my 2 cents:)

I am using the td100 right now it is fairly quiet, sounds like a fan in the room. The only suggestion I give to you is make sure your filter is small enough for the fan to pull through, I bought a combo fan filter package online and the two together just clean the odor the air exchange is horrible. Small filter td100 is fine but anything can 2600 and up I suggest the bigger model fans.

You'll have 4.45 cubic feet of space. The math says your 100 cfm exhaust will exchange more than 20 times a minute. Of course a cabinet won't get the same air flow as the bench test at the manufacturer.

IMO, anything bigger than 100 cfm is overkill.

With 100 cfms, you can mount the fan and the filter on the back of the cab. You'll have to push through the filter but it will act as a muffler as well. You'll probably need a speed controller too. (I forget who has a neat mini fridge with an S&P and a filter mounted on the back.) If I find it I'll shoot you a link.

Cozy had good results with this simple DIY fan muffler and a 197cfm S&P in his micro cab. And here is a two chamber micro airflow and exhaust setup which looks quite efficient to me.

Back - S&P TD-11x Inline Fan pushing THROUGH my homemade Can style Carbon Scrubber. Scrubber also works as a muffler for the "whooshing" sound. Ballast & Igniter are mounted to the back to cut down on internal heat as well.

In Use - My last grow, 9 Diesel Ryder ladies in a SOG style grow. Yeilded 4.65oz dry. The foil tape over the gasket on the inside of the door was to keep the gasket from glowing, it worked 100%. The towel in the bottom is there so I can put the plants in still dripping after watering them, and it helps to keep the humidity at a comfortable 55%. Max temps were about 83F Avg temps were 79-80F.

This thread should be lots of fun. I cant wait to see more people's setups so I can copy ideas that are better than mine....muahahahah! For real though this should be fun, hope some more people take interest for sure! Ill pop a link in my signature, and Im subscribed!!!

Peace all

For your cab size I'd do a search for cabinet fans for av cabinets they are real nice and convenient pre wired for 120 volts and usually have some kind of duct connection, a lot come with speed controllers or thermostats depending on how much you spend.

Thanks to everyone for the great input. All of it has helped me come up with the best & most effective solution.

I went with the S&P (http://www.bathfans.com/soler-and-pa...LAID=341690191),

and I was wondering if anyone knows how I would go about controlling the speed. Right now, it's just straight 120v to the fan and it's a little loud (but I haven't hooked it up to the ducting yet, I do know that will reduce sound). I'm looking for a way to just knock it down to half speed, to see what kind of results I get.

Thanks guys!!

Good choice on fan everyone seems to like them.
As for speed control I got one from Lowes it's a ceiling fan and light dimmer, works great. You might want to buy a box for it though.
Looks like this, shouldn't be hard to find

put your fan pushing through a carbon scrubber or read post #9 in this thread. there is a link that would has proved useful for others.

Don't do it!

Not yet anyway. Get your ducts and scrubber hooked up first and see where that takes you. These things simply do NOT suck like a Vortex does and every bit of resistance adds up. Add silencing or detract air flow and you may end up with an easy bake oven.

Thanks dude.. I'll prob end up using one of these if it's needed, after I get it all put together.

Thanks man, The air is going to be pushed through a carbon filter, got that covered!

S&P 100x Inline Fan Wiring Guide With HQ Pics

If it's wired to high now, you can wire it to low easily. Growmeds explains later in that link.

Appreciate that link man, helped!

Haha.. appreciate that.. thanks to you, I'm waiting until my black ducting and carbon filter get here tomorrow... before I decide on toning it down.. :p
