cup of water to soil / cup of water to papertowel / rapid rooters / soil / coco / heated/ unheated / soaking / moist / dry / seaweed / LK / B-1 / rhizotonic ..... you name it
I stick with straight to "soil" under a dome with a heat mat ( not over 85F ) with a T-5 bulb on so when it pops and when it's coming up to the surface it's green and the least stretch possible..
have fun though, life is all about experimenting , and finding what works for you
My goal is to veg with T-5's too.
With this little test I am really trying to find out if the FFOF can be used instead of RR. But I had heard that the FF is to hot. So, I really want the FF to at least be kind of close the Rapid Rooter.
Just a note, I germed for 2 days in water. The seeds popped to varying degrees. Some had tap roots and some were just showing slivers of white. So the first couple days will show a little variability until they catch up. I did try to put one of each (with roots) into each medium.
I put this time seeds directly to pretty hot recycled soil woth added compost, EWC and dry ferts. I was going to add 1/3 sand, but ground was frozen and sand was rock hard and I was feeling lazy again...
I'm getting crazy strech and slow growth with my seedlings. Some lanky bastards!
I wanna see if same thing happens to your seedlings in hot soil.
I got plenty of light, 600W, so it should be more than enough at this stage.
Just to make sure:
Seeds have now been 5 days in soil + 2 days germination in water?
(=7 days from germination)
I'm now on day 16 from germination and have 2-3 pairs of real leaves. They are wrinkly, but grow is getting faster.
They will be fine I think. (after they recover from the nute-shock and get some real growth going...)
I can't really see much difference in your seedlings? All seems to be OK..?
no need for humidity dome now, you can pull it off once they sprout. anything over 70 could potentially start to cause problems
If I can suggest, I would transplant to solos right after they pop as your restricting the tap root
also make sure and get that light as low as possible, the stems seem to be reaching pretty big, and your gonna loose the precious space when you transplant to the solo, as it takes weeks for roots to shoot out the buried stem...
Experiment over. I tried 3 different seeds in 3 different mediums and they all appear to be growing the same with no side affects from the hotter FoxFarm Ocean Forest.
In fact, in the past day the FFOF seem to be a little greener and developing a little faster - as you might expect.
They are all off to 16 oz cups till sexing.
Thanks Habeeb, you are correct, I will have to bury the stem - hope it doesn't take to long for it to root.
