If it stretches it's growing more stem between the budsites so space x will have less budsites if a stretchy plant is filling it, compared to a non stretchy plant. With budsites, it's not how many you have though, it's how you use the ones you have. It can be misleading. Like all or at least most aspects of growing, it's a question of balance, to get the best yields. You could have a million budsites all cramped together but a million buds won't have room to develop and catch light. Balance is very important.

BC why not just use a 12v fan? The 48v doesn't mean it's 4 times as strong as 12v, in case you were thinking that. It just seems like you're making things more difficult than they need to be. There is a good thread on pc fans somewhere. It seems a decent fan but I'm not going to look for the details of your other fan. Simply compare the specs. Your new fan converts to 17.7mmh2o and as loud as a rusty hair dryer filled with pebbles. :eggnog:

The short simple answer is take out some lights or copy the fan and filter setup of whatever computer inspired you because I don't remember anyone pulling this off. I would simply never try running that many watts in a computer. I couldn't cool 30 watts in a small space with no filter and a kickass delta, so it's great that you're positive and all, but there is a point of diminishing returns. If you just want "the best" fan, get a delta like maryjohn is using and a speed control method. It just seems easier to me to take some lights out. I veg 4 sq ft or so with like 100w - 15 plants. I have a carbon filter and it's the height of summer, no AC and a hot house. No temp problems beyond the high ambient temps. Heat is bad, the end.

hey thanks everyone for popping in..
Call me crazy Scrub( I'm sure you do!) but I will pull this off..The reason for the other fan is more cfm's than the delta(151cfm)..200 to be exact.I can easily replace the Delta in minutes... the homemade scrubbers just did'nt work well..just kept pushing hot air back in to the case so hopefully this new scrubber will solve this problem...then I don't have to worry about this whole fan thing...

Here is the scrubber I bought and I did my homework and the Sunon can easily push through that one..I will try the delta with it first for sure..I will have to put the pic of the scrubber in the next post..

She is getting bigger now which is nice..there is a crapload of roots too..

Here is the scrubber..its a Fresh Maker organic one but airflow is great with one...they take cfm's from 0-942 which is cool too.

My temps never get above 79 with no scrubber on right now so the delta works very well indeed..thats why I think its the homemade scrubber thats messing things up..I turned the Delta off to see what would happen and in a matter of 5 minutes, temps got to 110! If all else fails,I will take out a 20 watt light..I am almost positive this scrubber will solve things... Besides I like my Delta!

Thanks all:thanks:

Hey Rhyolite! Thanks for poppin in...
Here are a few pics of the scrubber and how i mounted it..Mine may be different from yours but just duct tape the heck out it wherever you are mounting it...mine weighed alot but it stayed put

my plant has really started to shoot upward since yesterday..2 inches to be exact..overnight! thats a relief...thought I had a shorty or something..
Hope this helped..sugar bears thread shows how he(and many others) mounted his scrubber...

Hey BC Chronic, do those 80mm fans bog down thru the scrubbers? I am building a PC scroger rite now and Im devising a plan for a similar scrubber. Im just not sure if I should replace my 80's with 120's or get higher amp rated 80's or what??
I was also thinking I would put the scrubber inside the case like a normal grow room scrubber. Is pushing thru the same as pulling thru in terms of odor control??

here's what i have built so far.
comments, advice, criticism welcome. thanks!

hey spacecaser! Thanks for popping in!
fans will bog down with scrubbers..thats why you need high cfms and more amps in a fan..mine is 151cfm and is 1.60 amps..its a little noisy but it works!
with 1.35 cubic feet to grow in (just an example)a fan with 79 cfm's and a 5 inch intake hole is perfect but then you have to take scrubbers in to account..a scrubber can cut cfm's in half if not done right...
Try hooking your fan up then mount the scrubber on it temporarily and see how much air is flowing..I made the mistake of installing evrything only to find out is was ALL wrong...ugh..
what are you using to power your fan?remeber that the amps of the fan CAN'T be higher than your power supply..you can overheat it then who knows? You don't want any fires!
A 120mm fan is great too...you can get higher cfm's with them..there is also another airflow formula but its all greek to me..
If you can, try e-bay or Frozen CPU.com. check out Sunon, Scyhte, or Delta fans..they are good ones..remember to look at the cfm's, amps of the fan and what it takes to power one..you can get those fans really cheap if you look around

Best wishes on it bro...Hope this helped..I learnt this from the good people here

Thanks BC! Im using a linksys adapter (12v output 500ma) my 2 80mm fans are 0.19 amps I think? (they are sealed inside that exhaust duct now lol). But compared to yours I would say they are grossly underpowered:p

So it sounds like I need better fans and a better power supply as well, easy enough.
I love your scrubber design. Im gonna put one of those together and try it out!

Oh, and hows the odor level with these micro scrubbers while in flower? I use a 5' carbon scrubber on a 790cfm 10" vortex in another grow I maintain and with new(ish) carbon; it pretty much deletes all exhaust odor. Im hoping a micro scrub will perform the same?

Thanks again!

No problem spacecaser..anything to help..thanks
I've yet to test the scrubber out but many people use(or used) them and they work great..
See what I was saying about high cfm's...Your vortex fan says it all!
At Wally world, they sell decent 12 volt power supplies for cheap. As long as it has more amps than your fan, everything will be great.

The reason I have a bigger fan (plus one up top when the pc gets really hot) is because of the 161 watts in ther..In such a small space, temps are really an issue..
Make sure you pack the carbon in, but not so much that the fan won't work properly..I had this problem with my bigger scrubber so I had to rethink it all over ...Its only a problem for me because I am stubborn and WILL make this work..no one ( I think) has ever stuffed so many watts in a pc before so fans, cooling and scrubbers all change a little for my situation..

Yours will work great bro..High cfm's and a good power supply is all you need:eggnog:

Its day 22 and she's growing taller.. Lots of pistils everywhere too so its going to get stinky!

best of luck spacecaser!!Merry Christmas too:santa1:

Hey spacecaser, Are you going to do an aero or hydro grow or is that so your plant has more room to grow? I was asking becuse your pics look like the pc has an extra few inches on the bottom! thats a great idea..

S

spacecaser

Thanks! and yeah Im planning to do a shallow water culture to start and maybe change to bubble or aero later.

And I did add a separate base for the reservoir to sit in. The case is a mid-tower and I felt like the plants would need more space between the res and the lights.

Day 22. How long until you flower those?

:tree: Got my tree today!
Merry Christmas to you too!

Hey spacecaser!! I am still amazed that people can grow ANYTHING in a pc! crazy huh!
Its starting to flower as we speak!! Pistils are shooting up everywhere..I will probably LST to use all the space I can

Hey BC, are you doing a scrog or just strategic LST in there? And also, I didnt read if you topped or fimmed these gals at all. Im curious if this is common practice or not in micro grows.
Sorry if you said that somewhere and I didnt see it.:joint:

Hey friends, thanks for popping in
If you are looking for a good case, go aluminum if you can..They are very good at controlling heat.Mine is a Lian-Li which cost 89 dollars total, delivered to my door!
They are very strong cases too.
Try frozenpcu.com..PCCanada(if you live here)..or just even google aluminum pc tower/server cases...mine is 2 feet tall, 8.5 inches wide and 23 inches long..if you think about it, theres alot of space left over too even after all the electronics...lights etc.
I still have 1.35 feet of cubic of space left...

I'm not trying to get you to do the same as me, I am just saying use a tower case, you'll have more room..plus aluminum really helps with the heat..

e-bay is a great place too..just check out the sellers feedback..thats very important

here are a few pics, just fed her bloom fert and started the LST process..she's realy growing fast now..you can see where the buds are starting to form already..I'll post better close ups tomorrow..

Merry Christmas:gift:
