I just found some a hardware(!) store yesterday, and bought 3 -3.8cft bails for $10.46 a bail!!!! The owner said it was leftover from this summer and gave it to me at cost!!!!

HOLY Sheepshit!!

The stuf is over $50 a bail here in the great white north, and only two places carry it. Yep , I'll be reusing it for a while.

Hey Skunk, what kind of Nutes do you use with the sunshine and promix? Doesn't the sunshine #2 or #3 have perlite in it?

Promix is excellent and Sunshine Mix is just about on par . For indoors have had no problems with the SunshineMix #4 (more airated with aggregate & perl) in E&F once a day in 3gal mesh pots & have been swinging to a little larger plants in 5gal mesh just not filling them up all the way .

Lightweight & fluffy , easy to work with , sterile & clean.... its up to u what cha want to run for the base nutes but Flora Nova Bloom @ 2ec , floralicious+ & superthrive is all i run to just keep it simple. Hand watering might consider the #2 where u could get away with every 3days but the #4 is just an excellent airated mix that still has some water retention ability, being peat based medium . Just wasn't thrilled with coco's over-tendency to wick down & only hold water at the bottom levels , where with peat u get more uniform moisture held throughout the pot. Also coco's need for getting its cation's tgether at the start & for the expense isn't all that .

( though i would think a 30/30/30 mix of worm castings, promix & coco would really make for a lovely vegetable garden , lol)

Promix HP or Sunshine mix #4 superior to coco in everyway , jmo, yet just like coco once u get the medium "charged" , ur on ur way !
We get sunshine mix#4 down here for $29...

I use pro mix in my soil houses and I have used it outdoors. Its a nice mix to be able to blend into your own mix. I dont like fox farm soils as they have gnat problems. Aurora is good and up there you can get mendo mix and some other soils. I do exactly what the guy with the south park avatar does. I mix the pro mix with some chunky perlite and worm castings. I always say go organic or as much as possible. Pure blend pro works great and keeps them nice and healthy. I use it with karma, silica, cal mag and hygrozyme. Its all pretty cheap and gives good harvests. I get about 2lbs per light with bubba kush and growing sog...

I know I'm later her but I just got some bcuzz hydromix hp cause grow shop was more convenient and they had been talking about how much better than pro mix it is. I cant say anything as far as results go but it's a lot better to work with than pro mix (bx is what I normally get.) Not as dusty and it seems to be better quality peat. Also, the hp has tons of perlite in it, seems to dry nice so I'd be scared to add any to it.

promix is the way to go...I don't add anything to it, I use quick grow nutes and only add a bloom booster. real nice and very cost effective.

i used to use promix but now use sunshine 4 as it already has extra perlite. great stuff. no special anything required. and unlike organic mixes i have yet to find any bugs.

Ive used pro mix BX for the last 8 years and never had a single problem. For ferts i use Advanced Nutrients core line of products because for me they work best. If your trying a new strain or if your new to growing its hard to beat promix its very very very forgiving and i doubt anybody on here will argue with that. Up here in Canada about 80% of people grow in pro mix...because it rocks !!!

Peace, te lilman

I love pro-mix BX. It's light and fluffy enough that even after adding castings and a little more perlite, you end up with a great medium with good enough drainage that feeding with hydro nutes can be done every 3-4 days.
A little dolomite lime(2tbl.sp per gal), about 20% added perlite and some worm castings and the plants thrive in it.

Pro-Mix HP is your all in one, its awsome, its clean and comes with Mycorise pro, a Beneficial mycorrhizal inoculum (Glomus Intraradices). These Microscopic fungi attach to and colonize root systems working in symbiosis with plants.

All this medium is, is Sphagnum peatmoss 65%-75% and the rest is perlite. You dont need to add anything to this medium, its PH balanced and its 15.00 per 3.8cu ft compressed. Im not going to do the math but one of these bails have roughly filled 60 2gal pots and still only 75% through one bail

Compost soil can bring unwanted bugs

coco is cheap here too, i have a block of it that im going to try and use up but i still like using promix. You dont have to keep an eye on promix and with COCO you have to pre-soak it with a conditioner before you use it. (ideal anyway)

In the past I used Promix and I found it to be quite easy to use.Using General hydro nutrients (drain to waste expert feeding sch.) & 7000 watts of hps produce 7-10lbs. I now use Bcuzz hydromix and am gettting the same if not better results than Promix for almost half the cost. Also I only add perilite "chuncky" to my mix and always adjust water and nutrients to a ph of 6.5- 7.0

1 bail promix
1 big bag fox farm chunky perlite
3 bags worm castings
1 Cup High N guano
1.5 Cups High P guano
2 Cups Kelp meal
4 Cups Greensand
4lbs Rare Earth(GH) or use Fulvic acid when fertilizing
4lbs Diamond Black(GH) or use Humic acid when fertilizing
1 Bag Tarantula (AN)
1 Bag Piranha (AN)
2 Cups lime(add while checking soil PH as castings have different PH, and more may be needed)
5 Cups diatomaceous earth(use dust mask and gloves)

Best way to do things is pour them on a 12'x12' tarp. Mix by hand and then use the tarp to mix the soil. I like to use 3gal bags and transplant from either .5gal or 1gal bags. I would feed with H20 on the first 2 waterings and after that you should be straight to start adding fertilizer. 3rd watering fertilize at 50% and full strength after that. The DE will keep soil bugs away. Hope this helps.

Iguana Grow and Bloom are the best organic nutes I have found. I have previously used- GH, Botanicare, Earth Juice, Roots, Humboldt, and Canna.
