EC 1.7 means how many ppm?

Hello all,

If I need to be at EC 1.7, and I am measuring ppm with a Hanna type meter (in the US), what ppm should I be aiming for?

Thank you!

Hanna uses 4 different scales in the US: 500, 640, 650, and 700.

EC 1.7 is pretty hot, what makes you think you need such a strong solution?

Most of them come preset to the 500 scale in the U.S. which would make 1.7 EC = 850ppm.
1190 ppm if you switched it to the 700 scale.

Hey guys thanks for the feedback

I'm growing El Nino by Green House Seeds, and in their video they made about how to grow it they say to keep the EC at 1.7 during full bloom

But, my plants have been having some problems lately and I think I have been converting the EC to ppm wrong

I have a hanna-type meter i think (gets calibrated with 1382ppm solution) and I have been mixing my nutes to 1190ppm, but I think that's for meters with a .7 conversion

I think I should be aiming for 850ppm, could explain the problems I'm having

PPM chart

PPM chart

I believe I have a chart.
Ahh here it is:

Right click and "Save As" to save the pic for your records.

EC is supposed to be the universal measurement.

Most PPM meters that I have seen (in the USA) are on the hanna scale. Like my Primo.

Hope this helps... There should be a sticky with this easily accessible for teh newbs.

Are your nutes organic or mineral based?. the reason i ask is an ec measures electrical conductivity. mineral based nites tend to have more salts than organic based so 1.7 ec in gh 3 part nutes will have a different ppm than say the same ec using pbp or earth juice which doesnt have much salt content. your best bet is to keep your ppm below 800 or ec around 1.0

Anima: thanks!! that's the chart i initially looked at and figured EC 1.7 meant 1190ppm for me, but I think 850ppm is really what I need

wickedpete: I'm using GH 3-part nutes, but I also have Earth Juice nutes that I'm waiting to try out so it helps to know to expect different readings, thanks
