My holy grail: Meigs County Gold

Its been well documented that Cannabis has been cultivated in many areas of the United states for hundreds of years now Kola

come on bro americas history is only a few hundred years old

i dont kno of any landrace U.S. strains documented caz there is none

ive lov to hear a few

Nope, there was a landrace strain native to Ohio; I saw pics of Cleveland. It used to grow in between buildings and through cracks in the sidewalks. It was a short flowering strain but with sativa buds. Cleveland used to be swampy, and Indians surely moved a lot of ganja around the United States (and still RIGHTFULLY do).

I would go absolutely insane being an Indian, a real hard time not being a terrorist. There are some radical Native speakers, I think the purpose gets lost with a lot of speakers that have emotion to relate. Crazy that only peyote is a right, and not even that much.......there is a lot more that is rightful. Not rape and pillage, but a lot of the indigenous culture is denied. A lot modernized by organic chemistry and the hippies, it is the roots that are the truths.

I'm laughing so hard right now. I was asking if anyone had heard of Meigs Gold, and sure enough I start to hear the stories that make it legend around here.

I guess the thing about a grail quest is that they are almost assuredly going to fail. Almost.

Sorry to get off topic but the Amish were mentioned ..I have a few packs of HEX that came from them in PA, I was told it was an out door strong weed yielding 2lbs...Maybe its time to crack those babies....as far as the other stuff..never heard of it.

Hey now,

I saw some killer buds recently. The guy was estatic " it's ak and original Meigs county cross- smell the licorice." beautiful colas. The strain does exist. Or as another pal told me of trip to Athens-" place is loaded with fresh kind bud" I can't remember the word 'Gold'
meigs county is enough of brand name in Ohio. Those cats that went to college in Athens and never left-whoa! IRIEEEE!

UPDATE!

Isn't is strange that as soon as you stop looking for something it seems to find you? Through the powers of social networking and a little help from random probability:

I HAVE FOUND THE GRAIL!!

Yeah! a friend of a friend (and a beautiful human being as well) saw my plight and decided to help. I'm now in possession of 6 seeds labeled as "Meigs Gold"!

So the strain DOES in fact exist! I hope this is some inspiration for you fellow growers to reach out there and try your own grail quest.

only problem is that all my grow space is currently used up, so it'll be a bit before these get started. stay tuned. :)

Ohio has border states that grow much more and much better herb than Ohio. It is a real strain, but wouldnt call it "holy grail" . They do have a couple of ghani cuts that have been going around for nearly 30 years.

Good luck with your grow, Dinix. In the time I spent in Meigs and Athens, the legend that I was told, and heard from several locals, is that Meigs Gold was bred by an OU Horticulture professor, and released to the locals to give them a great product to help boost their standard of living. May be total Shite, I dont know...:2cents:, what its worth.

I will tell you where to gewt your Meigs on one condition..you must answer this question:

What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

An African swallow or a European Swallow?

Does anyone remember the Cheech and Chong movie, where Cheech's cousin Red had the duffle bag full of dank? He said it was from Meigs county... ahhh, now you remember....

Let's just say in theory: I am an established head, I've lived near enough to there, I have smoked amazing-amazing cannabis, both my own, and others. I never got the outdoor Meigs that is the subject of this thread. Athens is known to have dank, but so does every other college campus city in Ohio. Honestly, OSU in Columbus is by far the best. Big campus, lots of smokers = better supply.
It has always seemed to me that the people that know nothing about cannabis, where the ones familiar with the Meigs legend.
Weather on Lake Erie and in affected areas and the Ohio River Valley can be brutal, so atmospheric conditions would be less than ideal, (heavy rain, early snowfall, tornados, high winds whipping throughout southeast ohios rolling hills.
I know Meigs County's Finest can't hold a candle to Mr. Nice Super Silver Haze, that is loved in an indoor garden, that may or may not exist. Remember this is all theoretical....Just in case my dad's brother Sam...is following.

Athens blows the lid off of Columbus' scene... OSU has tons of smokers but it's OU who's doing most of the supplying.

I guess it depends on what you're wearing and who you know... maybe you'd find better herb in Columbus, but I could find the best in Athens. :2cents:

PS I used to grow Meigs Gold with some good ol boys in Meigs County... there's a lot of farmers out there, some of em know their business ;)

My family is from ohio and naturally I was very interested in your thread.. if anyone would like to donate a seed or two id gladly document a grow and self pollination.. or if i was lucky enough to get a male and female in the seeds make seeds of that. and give them back to the community so heirloom genetics dont get lost in the world of bottlenecking certain characteristics. pm me if intested

From what I am seeing on other canna-boards, the MCG seems to be a sativa growth dom hybrid. While I do LOVE some SSH (my favorite sativa!), lets not count our chickens before they hatch, these have a good possibility to be some killer smoke!

As to there being a landrace strain of cannabis from the US, I think you all are just confused. What other landrace had the moniker "gold"? HMMM think about it real hard now...

Have you guys ever had lemon g or heard of it? It is supposedly bred from the columbian landrace back in the day. Columbian being used in two Ohio strains, don't you think that is quite a coincidence?

And cellardweller, don't be a dick. Really, there's no reason for it, other than you wanna make yourself look better by seemingly make someone else look foolish. Who's the fool then?
