GDP Under 318w LED from Hydro-Grow-LED.com

Hey everybody! I'm new to this forum, as previously i had been posting my results only to GrassCity... I understand there is growing support and interest in Hydro-Grow-LED's revolutionary lights, so I thought it would be prudent to furthering the LED revolution to post my results here as well...

In any event, I am a card-carrying 215 patient within the legal jurisdiction of Humboldt County, CA., and I am as eager as the next conscious grower up here to lighten the carbon footprint i make by growing my own medicine. So far Cammie's lights have done nicely for vegging my GDP clones, which finally reached the sizes of their well-cropped parent plants this week (i had put the mothers under a t5 for the time being to let the babies catch up, which they did in about 40 days)... so what you see in the pictures are actually TWO generations of plants, one (the four plants toward the front in the pictures) vegged under a t5, and the others (the four in the rear), under the HG-LED. I had some complications with the soil including what i suspect were two pH lockouts on the babies, which i fed regularly with 1oz/gal of FoxFarm's Big Bloom and 5ml Nature's Nectar Nitrogen with every watering. The others i did not feed hardly at all, in an attempt to slow their growth to allow their offspring to catch up).

In any event, if you want the whole story, see my Grasscity journal @ http://forum.grasscity.com/indoor-grow-journals/459782-gdp-under-318w-led.html

But here we are now @ Day 5 of flowering everyone under the LED and I must say they are looking great! I recently fed them each with FoxFarm's Open Sesame only (two weeks ago i transplanted them into new pots containing a 1:2 mix (1/3, 2/3) of Botanicare ReadyGrow Aeration/McLellan Mountain Power Flower) after a friend's recomendation to make them really open... next watering I will add Botanicare's Pure Blend Pro Soil formula instead of the FoxFarm Big Bloom to try out Botanicare's fert line... I intend to add Liquid Karma to the mix as needed, but will use the full array of FoxFarm's salts: Open Sesame, Beastie Blooms and Cha-Ching.

I also trimmed the "babies" up really nice this week to get them ready to shoot all the nutes to the branches with the most light access.. i have also attached a pic of the cleaned up underbrush...

So peep the pics and holla back!

What bulbs are you running in those t5's in the pictures?
Are they bloom bulbs or something else?
Are you using the t5's to increase the lighting footprint vs LED alone?

they're 1/2 bloom, 1/2 grow right now, and yes, my tray is a bit wider than the 4'x2' footprint of the LED, so i'm supplementing with the t5's... a bunch of folks on Grasscity got pissed i was supplementing, but i think i might have to... i'll try to keep it down to a minimum tho, so you can see what Cammie's can really do!

How big is the tray you are using?
What caused you to come to the conclusion that the LED light alone was insufficient and needed additional lighting?

Well ya, maybe they felt misled because you are calling it a 318 watt LED grow when you have 200 watts or so of t5's.
Either way, I like to see some good gdp...

The Botanicare trays are wider and shorter than 2'x4', they say on their website that they're 44"x24"x7", but they're a bit wider, more like 25"-26"... i was giving the "babies" a bit of extra light to really get them going, but i may not even end up needing to supplement much at all... anyway, i have the t5s there for backup in case it looks like i need it, but i'm really interested in knowing what the Penetrator can do on its own... still, if shit gets crazy, it'd be nice to pump up the yield with lighting supplements... aarrrgghhh... i'm torn between scientific rigor and yield motives!!! anyone feel me?

In any event, I'm actually a little disappointed with the Botanicare trays because of the size difference... i wanted to have the perfect footprint for the light, using 8, 1' diameter pots, but i walked away with a tray that fit the pots, but in a slightly different arrangement... i'll definitely get a tray that actually fits the footprint next time, cuz i'm none too happy with the shortness of the trays... still, i can get around in my 4'x4'x7' SunHut Silver XL pretty well because of this... i guess it's a tradeoff...

Pix update, DAY 09:

Everyone is now receiving 1/4-1/2 tsp Fox Farm's Open Sesame plus 1/4 oz Botanicare Pure Blend Pro Soil Bloom formula per gallon with every watering... little hairs and buds are beginning to form!!!

looking good from here!!!

i am surprised at the low number of responses...

keep it up!!

DAY 12:
Got ventilation up today. Other than scrubbing and regular air exchange, I had no need for intense ventilation per se... I got a 4" 175 CFM Vortex inline fan and a cheap 7"x10" carbon filter with a 4" flange, some 4" ducting and I'm good. (I like the abundance of fours in my tent's mathematics: 4'x4' tent, 4" ventilation. It feels solid). I also moved the lights up about 10 inches (quite a jump, i know, but my yo-yo's had no give and i hooked the LED's 'biners stright into the S-hooks in the two tent poles), so now the lights are @ 12" away. I amped up the light a bit with the t5s to make up fo rthe fact that i moved the light so far away for the moment, but they will grow into a distance of 9" away at the least, and if any closer i fear they will outgrow the 7' clearance on the tent!!! They are currently all just over 2 feet tall at the moment (I flowered them starting at about 18"-20'). As soon as they get 9" away i will remove the supplemental lighting (i have not used it the past few days), but i want a nice, even canopy, since the 318w requires this (reason to look into Cammie's arrangement of 6x126w, arranged in an arc over the canopy, which is higher in the middle of the tray). I'm actually kicking myself right now for not getting 3 or 4 126w lights, but the thought of having to make an internal structure to support them, plus addiional cost (which at the time seemed like a large, risky investment) deterred me. Most people i know who have got these lights start out testing a 126w lol. These days, though, I feel more like I am fearlessly venturing into the future of Indoor Gardening.

Enjoy the pix!:smokeit:

Day 15!!! Holy shit-balls these babies have really started to develop buds!! The top buds are really filling in and most of the branches have hairy, dime-sized buds on them! I still have six weeks to go, but this is looking really promising. No trichs yet, but i expect that will be about another week or so. They are also starting to STINK!! hehe... I'm glad i got my filter up in time.

Anyway i realize now that the closeups are not as clear as they should be in these pix.. my camera does not do well with close-ups... but i think overall you can tell about where I'm at -- right on schedule.. now to make the buds fill out... i have hairy growth on all of the pretty well-stacked nodes on every branch... the buds further from the tops are smaller, of course. As of today I am adding in FoxFarm's Beastie Bloomz as well as Botanicare's Liquid Karma. I will also be giving them Botanicare's Cal/Mag Plus regularly, since i noticed some of the maturing leaves that were small at the onset of the cal-mag def are showing their spots a bit more. The soil pH is just under 7 on all the plants, tho, so I'm just supplementing, no flushes.

Okay enjoy the pics!

they look very happy...

good work...

if you can get the pH closer to 6.5, you will be 'in the range'.

be careful not to overdo it with the cal~mag...

liquid karma rocks!

DAY 18: got some size references for yas!
