i have quit smoking for 3 months now.

i quit cigs and mj at the same time , i just stopped smoking.

I chose the right time to quit , i didn't have to work , so i made sure i had LOTS of movies and i just layed down on the sofa for 3 days.

I was sweating like a pig , feelin real sick but the movies kept my mind off of it.

I drank lots of water and ate lts of healthy shit.

Like lord doobie said , the sensation of smoking is just as addictive as the nicotine. So for me when i for example smoked a pure joint , it made me wanna smoke a cig and vice versa.

after 2 weeks i felt pretty comfortable with it.

The another 2 weeks later i began vaping with my volcano cuz i had to trim my crop.

As of today i will take another vaping break.

Just keep trying to quit , you will find a way that will work for YOU personally .

Now after 3 months i don't even get it why i smoked , i totally DONT want to ever smo,e again , it literally stinks and tastes bad , it wrecks your lungs and throat , you feel lazy , bad , if you smoke long enough you feel like choking.

Ugh just repulsive , i don'tn even enjoy smoking mj anymore ,

Vaping is the way , i get higher than i have ever been and don't have any feeling of discomfort in my body anymore.

Before i quit smoking i was feeling real ick because of it.

I smoked for 11 years

think of the advantages :

your lungs clear up
your nose clears up
your sense of taste and smell improve
you generally feel better and fitter
your heartrate goes wayyy down
sports is a lot more enjoyable and easier
you get a lot higher
the high lasts longer cuz it isn't ruined by the nicotine withdrawal you get a few hours after having smoked a cig
You actually feel the real effect of the weed you are vapign or smoking
you smell better

you save money

and i bet there are lots of other advantages that i have forgot right now

535 days. Or is that DAZE. Chantix worked for me. It took away the addiction and left me with just (heavy sarcasm) the physical habit to get over. Now I'm struggling with losing that 40 pounds I gained by not walking out to the smoking pad.

I still know that all it would take is one to remind my body what addiction is all about.

Do it everyone! Smokers stink! No, I'm not a Nico-Nazi.

I started smoking in college at 19. If you can believe this, I worked at a restraunt and they would let you take a break to go have a smoke. However, if you did not smoke they would not let you take a break. If you were caught outside not working, and not smoking, you were in trouble. I became addicted to the act of smoking. I love going outside and sitting, by myself, having a smoke and thinking about the day. I havent had a cig in almost 48 hours. baby steps, baby steps

I have a confession to make. I slipped. I hadn't had a stick since May. It was a conscious decision I made. I cant blame anyone but myself. It just sucks when your feelings get hurt, and you get realy angry and let yourself slip back into the co-dependancy of that tension release.

No worries if you haven't had a stick since may , quitting again will be easy.

if you have bought a pack , just throw it away , you don't need it!

it was a small slipup , but nothing compared to years of smoking.

it doen't matter what method you use...just quit.

its ok to slip, too...don't put that guilt on yourself, its not fair at all...

i got real good at quitting until i quit for the last time over ten years ago...thank god.

you don't quit until you are ready.

maybe start a social group??

any support is helpful when you are trying to quit...

one day at a time...step by step...you can do it!!

I used to put the patches on early in the evening and then experience some way f'd up trippy dreams - I was a kid, he he he...

Good luck with it - but I'm afraid that they'll have to lock me up and keep me catatonic for a few weeks in a rubber room to keep me from smoking. I'm so afraid of putting myself, and more so my family, through the torturous first couple weeks. I've tried a couple times the past 2 years. Even went to a nico anon meeting for 6 months - saw a couple other people quit - on the patch too SFC - but could never bring myself to do it. The guys who did quit on the patch usually dozed through the meetings. When we'd wake them up they'd say that they'd been doing that an awful lot lately. Their way of dealing with the mental fight and physical boredom.

For me it's always been more of an extension of who I am - used it to fit in when I was an exchange student in europe and could never put it down. I've always liked my little mask.

Quitting sigs was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I was like many of you guys- getting fed up, stopping and then starting again. I can't tell you how many times I tried to quit. Then about 4 years ago, I had to be admitted to hospital for a ruptured diverticuli. I was there for 3 days and shared a room with a nice older man. He was fighting lung cancer, had one lung removed and part of the other, and had it come back again. The first day I was there he was able to speak clearly, but was heavily medicated. I had a front row seat to see exactly what it's like in the end- he was having tortured dreams (it sounded like he was trying to get all the work done before he passed). The family would come in the evenings and his wife sat with him most of the time. The day he died, I had been released. I showered, dressed, and was sitting on my bed looking out the window, waiting to be cut loose. His wife is there, and I hear him gurgling, and I guess what you would call a death rattle. I heard his wife saying "please don't leave me now". And then he was gone. It didn't take me long to go cold turkey and quit after witnessing that.

Nicotine patches, IMO only delay quitting and makes it harder.

It still makes me tear up to think about this.

Nic patches allow you to separate the behavioral aspect of cig addiction from the chemical aspect. They don't do much for occasional or light smokers. Not a panacea, but they can help if used properly.

After 12 years of smoking i quit over night by understanding the urge was a mental trip.
Any time I craved I would drink a large glass of water and have toke or breath mint or something to trigger the pleasure center.
I was breathing better almost right away. That was nearly 10 years ago!:)

Been smoking tobacco for almost 20 years now - haven't tried stopping in earnest for many many years but somehow I feel it's different now.

I didn't smoke any cigarettes yesterday - haven't smoked any yet today and I really really want to quit.
Abstinences are killing me but I try to get around them - drink some coffee, indulge in candy, get some fresh air, stuff like that.
I can feel my lungs are already clearer now and my sense of smell and taste seems a little sharper - That's not always a good thing though!

Good luck to everybody who wants to stop smoking tobacco...

After the first week it will go away, it is the "one last cig" bullshit that keeps you going. Another way is to BUM them until you or they get sick of you doing it.

I have STOPPED but am never going to say quit because one week I might have a few and then go a couple months.

I get HOOKED when I go and actually buy a pack and toss that shit in my routine. If you can keep yourself from BUYING a pack and simply bumming them as you can then that really bad craving WILL go away whether you believe it or not.

It is only a strong craving until you realize you can go weeks or months without them. I think the real issue is when people feel they have to keep talking about how they can't be around them or how they stopped smoking so they can NEVER have one again.

That is your choice for sure but the addiction to NOT smoke just like damn AA for the drunks can be just as damaging. You can be in control of what you do and it doesn't have to be the other way around.

hope something in there helps.

... we "associate" our smoking with our daily rituals/routines.. so that morning cup of joe isnt quite as sweet without that cig right? try switching to tea. or sipping on water...
but alas, I am in the middle of quitting right now, my heart is in it... my body wants the nicotine, but my mind has control...I made a thread, I wasnt sure there was one like this, but i'm all down for a stop smoking thread with other ic'ers trying to help me quit!

Good luck OP, I quit cigs after smoking for half my life.
I just went cold turkey, that seemed best for me. Its worked, although I still get almost daily cravings...yes, still! They have decreased in intensity though.

Hang in there everybody trying to quit. It can be done. After 37 years of smoking I quit cold turkey. Kept a good supply of some killer bud at hand and got buzzed when the want's for the cig came around. Smoked alot of bud for a few weeks. Been 1 year now. The smells are something. Still get the cravings every now and again, but I look at the price and that helps.

I smoked tobacco for 8 years before i stopped cold turkey one day 3 years ago. I just wasn't getting anything out of it anymore. I think i just did it out of boredom and because i grew up with smokers. And now everytime i think about taking a drag i just blaze a bowl instead. I mean smoking weed is way more rewarding. But i will admit that when i'm drinking i get the worst cravings for a dirty little camel. :joint:

Man I've been miserable for the first month since I stopped - now at 1.5 months it's finally getting to the point where I can think about something else most of the time with just a manageable craving demanding my attention from time to time.
I feel confident that this is it - no more smoking tobacco for me.

I've actually cut down a lot on weed too - no more excuses to put a little bit of green in the cigarettes:)
Weed tastes really nice pure in a glass spoon.
